[Video] Log 2 (Backdated to 07/01)

Hello everyone! I have a problem!

[As usual, Entrapta's hair utterly dominates the camera, but also visible in shot are three Pokemon: Leslie the Impidimp, perched between her ponytails as usual (where there is now also a bug-like welding mask pushed back past her forehead) and glaring flatly sideways; the target of his ire, a Magnemite who keeps drifting periodically closer to Entrapta's gear and turning part of the screen to static, before Leslie grabs it and pulls it away; and a Beldum, drifting upside down behind Entrapta's shoulder, its eye just barely visible through the gap between her ponytail and shoulder.

In the background is the sound of Wingull squawking, and ocean waves.]

Well, numerous problems, but I should go through them in order.

First of all! [There's a pause for a moment, before she gives a small 'oh' and digs through her pockets, pulling out a handheld recording device and holding it in view.] I was working dismantling the warp pad in Violet City, and I know I kept notes that were being recorded properly, but now when I play them back I only get this.

[She presses play, and a hideous garbled screeching, barely recognisable as Entrapta's voice, makes all three Pokemon flinch - the Magnemite's eye turns briefly to a blind X, in fact, and Leslie snatches the recorder out of her hand to stop it.]

Furthermore, I don't remember most of the work I did on the warp pad, nor any of the new conclusions that I came to in regards to its functions. [Yet she doesn't sound upset.] This relates directly to my second point - [and she lifts a gloved hand to gesture to the Steel types around her.] I don't remember catching these. By all accounts I shouldn't have access to these Pokemon yet - Winter and I haven't actually left Violet City yet, but Magnemite are found exclusively on the eastern side of Johto - but I found them both following me this morning and they seem to be at the very least friendly towards me. [She grins with a sudden brightness.] So I've called them Pauline and Judy! [As she gestures to the Magnemite and Beldum, respectively.] But I did also want to inquire with other people if they're also having memory issues that seem directly related to what everyone was calling the "weird weekend" phenomenon.

Thirdly, I may or may not be in trouble with the Violet City law enforcement soldiers, since I do distinctly remember dismantling the warp pad to the point of non-functionality. I don't know if it matters, but I've found people tend to like me telling them pertinent information as to what kind of danger I find myself in. So now you know!

[She beams again! She's doing good! She's remembering to tell people important information!

...wait she forgot one.]

OH! Also I'm in Olivine City and I need a ride back to Violet City, Winter's still there and I didn't get a chance to tell him where I went.

You...h-hold on, you dismantled a warp pad?!

I mean, if you did it over that weekened, then everything was likely set right again once it was all done, but - you really oughtn't do something like that!

I didn't do it over the entire weekend, just for a couple of hours. I think. I definitely got arrested before I could finish, but I also did it first thing Friday morning!

[It might be audio but she's still tilting her head curiously.]

Why ought I not to? I wanted to find out how it worked.

Because other people need to use it? For a lot of folks it's the one reliable form of transportation they have! Not everyone can or feels comfortable riding their own Pokemon, after all. And it's not very fair to the Pokemon if it's ridden all the time...

[Also it's just. The fastest way to travel? Even taking into account resting between subsequent warps so you don't get sick.]

Oh. Vehicles here are exceedingly uncommon so I assumed everyone walked, like in my home universe. From what I've witnessed so far it seemed to be the preferred method of transportation.

Well, initially, yes, people have to walk or take a ferry or, if they're able, ride a Pokemon to get most anywhere. There's a train too, but it only goes between two towns and doesn't make any stops. For anything else, the warps are the quickest way people can revisit towns they previously passed through.

They ought to invest in transportation vehicles. It would be incredibly easy to make some sort of electric engine that electric-type Pokemon would be capable of recharging with minimal or no damage - or even an external combustion engine powered by the excretions of Rock or Ground type Pokemon, if any are able to produce coal or similar. Or even Grass-types that can produce efficient amounts of wood or other combustible plant matter!

I certainly can't speak to the feasibility of that, but currently the warps are the fastest way to revisit towns, and...it's kind of inconvenient for someone to dismantle one? I'm just saying.

[There's a significant pause.]

If the warp pad is still damaged upon my return then I will make sure to help fix it. [She only now sounds a bit guilty about the fact.]

[She's glad Entrapta seems to understand, at least.]

I am sure they would appreciate the help.

[Just audio now, because he looks like a wreck and also about four different kinds of hung-over.]

I mean, I was sure I gave some cash to, uh, some people from my world so they could get a room at an inn and it's back in my wallet now, like it never left. And, uh, I also have the vaguest memory of climbing Mount Silver and finding a Golurk and, well... he's definitely in our backyard now.

[But oh, he remembers this girl now. She's the one who'd reminded him before of Charley. Still does, really.]

... I could get you back from Olivine. I've got warps to get there and unlike my usual Flyer, Iron Giant seems like he's big enough to carry two. I've got work tomorrow and Friday, but if you can wait two more days, we can do it over the weekend?

I have conferred with Winter and two days will be perfectly acceptable! He worries about me so I had to make sure that was alright with him. Otherwise I'd reject your offer and find someone faster! Do you know how long flying will take us?

It takes about two or three hours to fly the distance you'd do in a day on foot, mostly depending on whether or not the winds are against you. Olivine to Ecruteak is about ten days on foot, so that's twenty to thirty hours of time in the air right there. Usually once you got to Ecruteak you could just warp to Violet from there but, uh, I'm not sure that's a great idea if you took apart the Violet warp. Mostly because the, uh, Jennies might not be happy with you.

So that's another four and a half days on foot, so something like another nine to thirteen hours in the air? Plus we should really break every five or six hours to rest and give the Pokemon time to rest as well. I think I should be able to get you to Violet after three days of flying, though--and we'll get you registered for Ecruteak's warp on the way. Hell, if you want, we can do one of our breaks at Moomoo Farms. They're nice people and you can get good Pokemon for riding through them, if that'll help you and Winter in your travels later.

That sounds like it would take approximately forty-five hours of flight, plus an hour break per six in flight is eight hours... if we want to commit to twelve hours of dedicated flight in a day, soas not to exhaust all concerned parties, then we'd likely be looking at at least four days of travel if we include breaks for food, rest and other such things.

[That's all said in a very conversational tone, no apparent thought required.]

Since we'd be flying that far anyway, and I'm likely to be placed back under arrest upon entry in Violet City, would you be willing to fly me further along to Azalea instead? I'm aware it's a significant distance further, but Winter's already there and if the Violet City warp pad is still down then we'll still be reaching Azalea in the time it would take Winter just to get to Violet.

Right. Which if I talk to my employers, about taking Monday and Tuesday off for this, would get us there about then--and let me get back to Goldenrod in time for an appointment I have on Wednesday.

I think I could make further time off arrangements to get you to Azalea, but I'll have to talk to the person I have the appointment with, to see if we can reschedule for the week after. And we'll probably want to overnight in Goldenrod anyway. I'll ask my boyfriend if you can stay the night at our house--if not, I'll pay for your inn room, since I'm unexpectedly flush with cash.

[Big text response! It's hard to read stress and worry out of text, but it's there, spilling everywhere.]

I'm not in Violet City. I've been bouncing all over the goddamned continent trying to get back to Violet City. And to you.

I left Azalea this morning. I don't know if the warp pad is working again and I spent most of my money so I am walking. But if you're not there maybe someone can bring you to me and we can go back together.

Or not if you would rather not go back. We can go back to Azalea instead.

[Just get to him. He needs eyes on her ASAP.]

That's okay! Someone offered to give me a lift to Violet, but if you're already closer to Azalea then it would be more logical for me to head there instead. It would be faster for me to be flown there than for you to travel from there to Violet and back.

Will you be alright if I wind up there a few days after you? This person won't get here for another couple of days.

Apparently a lot of people got moved around. These "weird weekends" happen regularly and it throws off time, space, and memories apparently.

Aside from my distorted memories of events, but evidently that's nothing to be particularly concerned over, so it's fine!

I have a pokemon I don't remember getting, too. She's a Happiny. I do remember getting the Nickit.

A Nickit is one of those little fox-like Pokemon, right? One of them had my mask! And now I have it back!

[And she sends a little emoji at him.]

We might have to ask the pokemon to make more eggs soon, or we may need to stop for a couple weeks somewhere else so I can work one of the local contracts.

I can send you money if you need it! I'm still not using it, and I have all of my equipment so we're fully capable of finding somewhere to camp as well!

I don't believe Pauline and Judy are capable of breeding, both of them are listed as 'genderless'. But Nancy and Amanda are capable of breeding, and with her Hidden Ability, Amanda ought to make some much more valuable eggs than Nancy and Grace did!

[Pokemon center still costs, doesn't it? Or does it? If it does, camping will still save money. He might smile at her generosity, though, if he did that sort of thing.]

Entrapta you need to spend enough money to at least eat and feed your pokemon. I have enough until you get here.

Maybe we should let Amanda grow up a little more. She's still very young.

There doesn't seem to be any technical age of sexual maturity for Pokemon, from what I've been able to look into. But you are correct in that she's currently only around sixteen days old, which I'm lead to believe is an extremely underdeveloped age in regards to most biological forms of life.

So yes, letting them all grow up a bit more is probably the most ideal solution.

Good. We'll come up with something until they're more grown up. If you're going to be a while getting here I might just get a work contract somewhere. There has to be something I can do even in a little town like Azalea.

And otherwise I will get very bored I think.

Well, you're not the only one who doesn't remember catching a Pokemon; I'm still not quite sure where the Dewpider came from.

[Which bothers him on several levels, and is quite possibly more concerning than law-breaking, at least for the time being.]

[Well Leslie definitely recognises that Raboot, and waves a hand from his vantage point at the camera with a small "Impimp."]

According to my Pokedex, Beldum are only found in one specific location - the Ruins of Alph. Which means I have clear evidence that I must have travelled there at some point, even though I have no recollection of it.

Isn't she cute, though! [She reaches under her ponytail and pulls the Beldum into frame - she sets it rightway up, but it bobs like a cork and quickly tips sideways until it's hanging upside down again. Judy seems to have some sort of gravitational issues, it could be a side-effect of exposure to the fluid nature of the weekend thanks to her being part Psychic type!

[There's a "Boot! Raboot!" and a bit more enthusiastic waving from Tank; he likes Leslie. Leslie knows what's up. Sento's just frowning slightly at that Beldum.]

Have you taken it to a Pokemon Center to get checked out? Is it in any sort of distress?

[He picks up the Dewpider and holds it up for her to see.]

Refrigerator here isn't a Psychic type and may be unaffected because of that, but she seems fine.

I did, they said she's in perfect health! Maybe she just saw unknown, incomprehensible dimensions and creatures that live between dimensions, and her mind didn't have the capacity to fully comprehend it without going insaaaaaane...

[Her voice trails off into a dreadful whisper, and he holds her spooky "fingers wiggling to represent The Weird" pose for a few seconds, before she continues chipper as ever.]

Or maybe she's just weird, like me!

[The Beldum drifts forward now that Entrapta's released it, to take its turn staring directly into the 'gear's camera, making the screen start to snow up, until Leslie leans forward and pulls the floating Pokemon back with one hand, chattering quietly about how the thing works.]

I believe she is! She's shown no distress towards her current condition! But I'm going to build a communations device for her - her Pokedex says that she's able to send magnetic pulses in order to communicate with other of her kind, and I'd like to be able to harness that in order to facilitate proper communications to make sure she's not in pain!

[This is the sort of experiment Sento can get behind. Some of his hair's sticking up on its own now.]

Do you think it's the same sort of signal that might resonate with other magnetic Pokemon, like Magnemite? That could open up avenues of branching out into communicating better with other Electric-types, and from there, you could theoretically branch off into other dual types...

[Hold up, let him think far too hard on this.]

I believe it would be extremely difficult to create a universal translator, but if the theory holds that all Pokemon seem to be able to understand one another anyway, perhaps they already have one that we could theoretically learn to tap into!

Difficult, but not impossible, perhaps. Every worthwhile project has to start somewhere, and this is a promising starting point!

I'll start doing some experimentation, then! I'll let you know if I make any significant process - I can send you the blueprints of my current results so you can verify them independently!

Excellent! I'll be on the lookout for a suitable Steel-type to assist with this, if I can't locate a Magnemite any time soon.

According to my Pokedex Magnemite are only located west of Ecruteak City, in locations with close proximity to Olivine City, due to its strong electromagnetic presence from the lighthouse. The same can be said of in Kanto - they're only located near Vermilion City, which I've also read is the location of the Electric gym and a power plant.
