So a while ago, I caught a Wishiwashi and the thing about W-tachi is that he's always calling other Wishiwashi to help him fight. Is that just a Wishiwashi thing? Can other pokemon call for help? If they can, why don't they do it more often?

[There's a long pause. Then,]

Also, I still have two eggs that are either Slowpokes or Woopers if people want them. They're probably going to be really stupid, though. Their parents were.

When you say he calls other Wishiwashi do you mean he... flops all the way to the nearest pond to check if any of his friends can give him a hand? Every time you fight?

I mean that as soon as I send him out of the Pokeball, a bunch of other Wishiwashi show up and form this... it's like it's a bigger fish, but it's not, it's a bunch of smaller fish in formation to look like a big fish.

But if they get hit a lot in battle the others swim away.

...So, they not only show up wherever you happen to, in numbers great enough to fake being a bigger fish, but they also ditch him if the battle goes badly? What a bunch of fair-weather friends.

I know! I guess they might just get spooked off.

That would be kind of interesting to do a gym about, though. I mean, if I can eventually beat the Elite Four someday. Where you'd think you'd just be fighting one Pokemon but they'd call in a couple extra friends. Because you really do fight big groups differently than just one person at a time.

That would be a fun concept! Some moves would be better suited to fighting groups, status effects that stop Pokémon from attacking would become even more important... Got any other species well-suited for that?

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Maybe I can go back to the Trainer's school in Violet to read up on if pokemon ever fight in big groups in the wild.

There's got to be plenty of social species out there, even if you don't count the Pokémon that supposedly share a body, like Weezing or Magneton.

Exactly! And sometimes you'll run into the same kind of pokemon again and again in the tall grass, so they're obviously hanging out together.

But in those cases, do they hang out with any member of their species? Or is it some sort of extended family thing?

... I don't know.

Hopefully someone does, because it would be a shame to catch, say, five Pidgeys to make them work as a team, only for them to hate each other.

I mean, we could still try. Worst comes to worst, we'll set them free.
