As far as perfect summer days are concerned, this one is as perfect as they get. The sun is warm, the breeze brings just the right amount of needed refreshment, and the ocean waves are totally gnarly. Because that is what you say when a wave is good.



Seeing as this party has been 'organised' by a group of beach bums, their surfing buddies, and a group of very relaxed Pikachu, it's best not to expect anything too structured out of the day. That would totally harsh the vibe. No, this is very much a 'show up whenever, do whatever, be chill' sort of meet-up.

There's a little stand where visitors can rent all manner of surfboards, wakeboards, and floats. Not for rent, but definitely for fun, is a giant, blow-up Cresselia float. Anyone wanting to join the party need only climb on board to be towed across the water by the surf-stand owner's Blastoise, which is having just as much fun as you are.

Always able to Detect an opportunity, several smaller stands of local merchants can be found selling everything you could ever want in the name of hydration and refreshment. Ice-cream, sodas, fresh water! You name it, and someone is bound to have it.

And while there really are no organised events, ever so often the surfers (human and Pikachu alike) will hold impromptu surfing contests. Feel free to join them. Or feel just as free to tap someone on the arm for some surfing lessons. You might even snag a small, electric instructor.

Speaking of snagging an electric buddy -- that, unfortunately, is the one rule this party does have: No battling and catching the Pikachu!. If you happen to hit it off with one and have a defining character moment after which it decides to stay with you? That's fine. But seriously. No battle. Not even mock-battles between friends. Vibes. Harshed. Let's not.

As evening begins to creep down on the shore and a beautiful sunset bathes the beach in golden light, a bonfire is lit, and food starts appearing everywhere.... though it is all, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you swing), strictly vegetarian. Anyone craving a good, meaty burger (or an old-fashioned marshmallow) better have brought their own, because here you will find only vegetarian substitutes.

So feel free to drop by, catch some waves, share some food, and who knows, maybe you might even make some new friends. As they say --

[You know what? There's a donut-shaped floatie out there on the water. A donut-shaped floatie. With a certain space dad floating in the middle of it like a dorito-shaped donut hole. There's a coconut with a little umbrella in it, balanced on his chest. Despite the ocean waves he's holding it steady.]

[Those who may or may not drift into splashing range will meet a most deadly foe indeed. A terrifying, round, foe.]

[Yeah, it's just his Spheal. But she'll look at you with those big ol' eyes and plead with you to not wake up her trainer - seriously he hasn't slept in days. How can you say no to that face?]



2) VOLLEYBALL? sure
[It's a beach. There's going to be someone with a net and a ball. And someone is probably going to rope other people into it. It's not that difficult to convince Shiro to do much of anything, especially if his Pokemon help out.]

[So, yeah. That's how Shiro, still sporting the same outfit from earlier, ends up talked into trying to serve a volleyball. He has never actually played this game before, but hey! Most people here aren't experts, right?]

Just have to keep it from hitting the sand, right?

3) BONFIRE
[And by the end of the day, he's once more feeling pretty drowsy. But also? You know what happens when you spend all day in the water, or smacking around a volleyball? You're starved. And, once he figures out the food is vegetarian?]

This is great.

[You bet this guy has a plate full of bonfire grilled tofu and fruit. Or vegetarian hot dogs.]

[There's a man standing nearby in a black belt outfit, with the towels given to newcomers twisted into an improvised Pokemon sling. A Honedge is nestled happily against his back and wiggling her tassel for the tiniest of Whismurs, who's curled up in the section against the man's chest.

An Espurr (visibly shiny in the low light) is peeking around his leg. The man is staring at the food with a faint expression of mingled bemusement and wonder. He looks up at the question.]

I wouldn't know. Are such wide selections uncommon?

[Rope her into a game where there's competition abound, she'll be sure to join in, and it helps that this game is similar to one she's familiar with back home... only that the ball isn't covered in fire and alive.

The voice, however, catches her off guard. She couldn't remember if she'd caught his name that strange weekend or what they'd discussed, but she certainly remembers his face. Perhaps now was the time to make a friend?]

Yes! I believe those are the rules. At least these balls are not trying to kill you or eat you, which is pleasant.

1) HYDROPHOBIC
[Ugh. The Ocean.]

[He's only here for the tan. And the publicity. Loading his Staryutube with beach videos is bound to score high amounts of views, after all. Especially if he's on screen with some of the surfing pros.]

[But. There's the problem of The Ocean.]

[Stylishly dressed in purple swimtrunks and a black mesh shirt, he's scowling at the water from under a parasol. Flanking him is a Growlithe, who looks about as thrilled with these developments as Shadowmaru himself.]

I sincerely fail to see the appeal. It's large, wet, and salty. Horrid, really.


2) Bonfire
[Now this is much more to his liking. Shadowmaru's mood has noticeably improved. There's a fancy pineapple drink in his hand - bright and fruity and with a pink umbrella - and a smile on his face. He's tied his hair back now, just a few absent purple strands hanging in his face.]

Despite their demeanor, these people are incredibly hospitable, aren't they?

[Or find him later, quite happily tucking into some of the vegetarian options. Maybe question his own taste? Or join him?]

Catra glances over from where she's sunning herself a few metres away, stretched out to occupy more of the beach towel she's snagged from somewhere than should be physically possible at first glance.]

Don't forget full of slimy things.

[And okay, maybe the hint of appreciation in her expression is due solely to their apparent shared disdain for large bodies of water, but hey. Baby steps.]

1 -- YOU CAN'T AVOID IT FOREVER, MARU

[If Maru is only here for the tan, then he's doing it wrong. That mesh shirt is going to leave the weirdest tan lines and that umbrella is just a hater. Lance, the resident beach baby, knows how to tan (or in his case, get tanner) like a pro and he's coming up to Maru with a disapproved frown on his face and a bottle of sunscreen in the other. He's also shirtless, with his skin dewy from both sun and tanning oil, with a pair of palm tree printed swimming shorts.

Indeed, this is Lance's safe place and it shows. He's going to make sure everybody else knows the beauty of the beach.]

Please don't talk about my ex-girlfriend that way. It's rude.

A. Swimming

[Newt has gotten better at this swimming thing but she's still got water wings on as she paddles through the water. At some points there seems to be a Gyarados swimming next to her and she talks to them.]

I still think I could surf if I really tried. Even if it is dangerous.

B. Sand/Food

[Earlier Newt had the best idea of trying to make the biggest sandcastle ever. With help from pokemon. There is now a small child who is utterly covered with sand eating an icecream cone. She'll spit some of it out because again....covered in sand.]

Maybe I should have gotten a popsicle?

[Yes, this is the problem.]

C. Bonfire

[Newt loves bonfires, and now free of (most) sand she'll be hanging out near one. Not acting suspicious at all as she discusses things with an Arcanine who is not pleased..]

Maybe we can make it bigger? Do you think surfboards burn? They have a lot here...

[Please someone stop her.]

Um, I don't think they're actually made out of wood, [Claudia offers. She's been sort of hovering near the little girl, worried that she hasn't really seen anyone who's her parents.]

I mean, when I touched one, it felt kinda plastic-y to me.

[Seeing the girl covered in sand can't help but remind Cassandra of... herself, assiduously cleaning off the dirt and mud that always accumulated after she used Dust-Eater until no trace remained. It's not a pleasant association, so she forces her mind away from it and towards Priscilla the Deino and her new Pikachu friend playing in the sand a short distance away. Then it occurs to her that perhaps she should actually say something to the girl and not just stand there.]

What's a popsicle?

Surfing and swimming and sand castles, oh my~

Hunk isn't necessarily the strongest swimmer, but he isn't going to let that stop him from enjoying the day. As much as he's still hoping to find a way to go home, the beach gathering is just too tempting to pass up.

For most of the day, he can be spotted lounging near the water's edge, or in the water with his pokemon. Sorbet seems to be enjoying the chance to relax as well, though he seems to be as mischievous as ever. Anyone who gets too close might find themselves being showered with warm, salty water, courtesy of the Gyarados. Tiramisu is there as well, and she seems to be on her best behavior. At one point, he takes pity on the rock type and sits down to show her how to build a sand castle.

Bonfire Time

By the time the day fades into evening, he's starting to get a little tired. And a little hungry. He's not cooking today, so it's pretty easy to find him once the food makes its appearance. Once he's loaded up a plate with a little of everything and snagged himself a fruity drink, he's quick to clear out so other people can have a turn, though he lingers close enough to the bonfire to enjoy the heat without getting overheated.

[Hunk will be around for the entire day, so feel free to approach or drag him into beachy games, or into the water, or wherever else~ I'll match whichever format.]

Surfing/swimming

Oh gosh, it's a high school boy.

At least, Claudia thinks he's a high school boy. He's certainly a lot closer to her age than a lot of boys she's seen on this beach--most of them seem like college or older and she's not--

Well. Actually. Maybe she is almost old enough to date college boys now. She was going to be in high school come fall, after all.

It would be worth it to go talk to him, she thinks. He might not be super gorgeous, granted, but he doesn't look bad. He looks friendly!

So she'll just mosey on up to him, feeling super cute in her brand new bikini and--

SPLASH!

Claudia jumps, spinning around. "What the heck was that?"

London trots daintily in her wedged sandals and a bathing suit that looks like it's meant for lounging as opposed to swimming. She carries but a fruity drink with her, although it seems like she has a destination in mind to set up camp.

Slithering beside her is Stiletto, gripping a sequined beach bag in her mouth.

London finds a place not to far from the shore and pets Stiletto once they've reached a good spot. She seems quite relaxed as she reaches into the bag and extracts a pop-up tent and a chair to tuck inside of it. It's not until she's comfortably seated and sheltered from the sun, sipping her cool drink, that she realizes she's a few yards away from Hunk.

"Oh! Hi, Buff!" she waves from the short distance.

She doesn't forget a face, but a name is a different story.

Swimming/surfing

Cassandra isn't in the water, but she is watching a Pokemon who is: a Deino, being helped along by a Pikachu as the latter takes her surfing. Cassandra's Silvally, Blade, is also keeping watch, sparkling brightly (almost too brightly) in the sunlight. Cassandra notes the man's presence briefly - checking for potential threats is automatic for her even here - but soon recognizes him as the man with the lion-ship. "Oh. Hello."

[Hythlodaeus loves the beach. He loves everything about the beach. The sun, the surf, the salty air... It's just like home. Due to his size, the only well-fitting thing he could find was a speedo.]

[Hythlodaeus is absolutely living for this vibe. And this food, actually. He makes up a couple plates, handing one off to his dear friend back at their umbrella and towel base.]

Did we remember to bring anything to drink?

[As he plops himself into the warm sand, soaking up the full sunlight.]

[While nowhere near as scantily clad as Hythlodaeus, Emet is decidedly in far fewer layers than he typically is. But he still has them. While likewise opting for a speedo for swimwear (his a dark red violet), he has himself covered with a appropriately beachy sarong. Likewise, he also wears a shawl to match, though he wears it hanging off of one shoulder. Sure, he wants to wear layers, as he ever does, but he also has no issue showing off a little.

He also has with him a black beach bag that he places down between himself and Hythlodaeus as he settles on the towel. His eyebrows raise with interest as the plate is handed to him, which he graciously takes. Stopping from taking a bite of the fried tofu on his plate at Hythlodaeus' question. He glances to the bag, then back to Hythlodaeus.]

I certainly did. Look for yourself.

[And then he takes a bite of the tofu Hythlo so rudely interrupted him from doing. Honestly, he's still a little shaken from the previous day, but he's trying to ignore that. There's still the matter of his son that he and Hythlodaeus should speak about, and perhaps he feels guilty having spoken to Tyler about it...but it cannot be helped. He was in no state to make rational decisions, and he's still not fully certain if Tyler was trying to comfort him, or merely get information.

He'd be strangely touched by the former, and honestly impressed by the latter.]

Cassandra | ota | will match format

I. Ocean

While Cassandra has seen an ocean before - in her own world, once, and then again once in Cianwood - it's no less awe-inspiring a third time. The surfing is new, though, and she's not sure what to make of it. She assumes it's meant as entertainment or sport, because it seems entirely inefficient as a method of travel.

As for swimming... well, she can do it in a pinch, if only to save herself from drowning, but she's never particularly enjoyed it; she'd never liked the sensation of even freshwater in her incision, and she doesn't even want to imagine how saltwater would feel. Granted, the incision isn't an issue now (anymore?), but old habits and all. No, Cassandra is staying firmly on the beach.


II. Town

Of course, the beach isn't the only place she can be found while this is going on; there's a decent chance she can be found somewhere in Fuschia City itself, whether seeing the sites, investigating the library, or doing some work in the PokeCenter. (One could assume that Cassandra doesn't do particularly well with downtime. One would be correct, although she does try.)


III. Ocean, Again

She does eventually find her way back to the beach, less for herself than for her Pokemon. Blade in particular seems fascinated by the water; it's fully evolved now, into a Silvally, although it still sparkles brightly in the sunlight - almost painfully so at times.

Currently, though, Blade is watching a Pikachu as it chatters excitedly (or as excitedly as they seem to get around here, anyway) with Cassandra's Deino Priscilla, who is thankfully not trying to bite it. If anything, the dragon Pokemon looks at least as enthusiastic as the Pikachu, if not more; apparently, the Pikachu has got her interested in trying to surf. Cassandra can't help but worry a bit, given that Priscilla is both blind and in the habit of biting at her surroundings to orient herself, which seems less than ideal for surfing. But the Pikachu is patient, and Priscilla really wants to try, and eventually Cassandra gives in because how can she say no to that onslaught? Still, she watches the two like a hawk, and she's fully prepared to wade in after them if it all goes wrong; after all, just because she doesn't like to swim doesn't mean she won't if she has to. But the Pikachu is gentle and encouraging - as far as Cassandra can tell, at least - and while Cassandra can see Priscilla is nervous, she can also see that the Pokemon is enjoying herself.

Still, she's relieved when Priscilla comes back to shore with her new friend, and the two begin playing in the sand.

...All right, so Priscilla is mostly biting the sand. Still, though. They seem to be having fun, at least.

II

Coming into the PokeCenter is a man with three, no wait, make that four, Pokemon. Newcomer towels have been jury-rigged into a sling for a Honedge and a very tiny Whismur, and tagging along in his shadow is an Espurr.

The reason for the visit, however, is being held (gently) in one arm, and looking a little crispy around the edges. The Noibat's pathetic whimpers are a little over dramatic, honestly, which might be the reason the man just raises an eyebrow, and says, "I have no sympathy. If you want to make a habit of startling people, you must be ready to accept the consequences."

Then he stops, and looks around, obviously not thoroughly familiar with the Pokecenter routine yet.

Thace | OTA (will match format)

Eavesdropping, er, sightseeing!
For the most part Thace sticks to the beach with his Pokemon nearby. The Honedge, Whismur and Espurr stick very close, but the Noibat is often flying overhead. In fact, it might even seem like Thace is following the Noibat around when the bat does tight circles above places or groups.

He doesn't approach people directly as he ambles slowly along, but he's often conveniently just within hearing range of conversations. And if the conversations are of relevance to his current goal (learning more about Pokemon world), it's just a coincidence that the little stand has something that caught his eye, or the impromptu sling holding his Whismur close needs adjusting, right?

Actual relaxation
Once Thace has made the rounds, though, he finds some consistent shade, makes sure he has plenty of water, and settles in to watch the surfing with his Pokemon. Most of them. The Noibat is currently flying over the surfers. The Honedge is using her sheath and tassel to dig around in the sand with the Whismur, and the Espurr is taking a nap on Thace's lap.

And if anybody wandering by stops, or even just looks hot and tired, Thace will offer up some of that water and gesture to the shady sand beside him. "You look like you could use a drink."

Bat behavior
Brodar the Noibat isn't just enjoying the breeze. No, he's looking for people to sneak up on and startle. His preferred method is dive-bombs and loud shrieks, but he's willing to land and hide too, if it gives him an opportunity. The surfers and swimmers are a particularly tempting target at the moment.

At least he tends to reveal his mostly harmless intentions by breaking out into bat cackles in the middle of most of the shrieks?

Bat!

There's one big guy who is clearly not dressed for a beach-- jacket, jeans, reinforced boots, glove over one hand-- who might be a fun target, Brodar. There's a young Mudbray walking placidly at his side, and they're aiming for one of the food stands.

When the Noibat dives for his head, the poor pokemon is greeted with a sudden duck and a lashing out of the gloved hand to try and grab him. Whoops?

Entrapta | OTA

1) Beachside

Entrapta is not strictly an outdoorsy person. What she is, is insatiably curious, and when she sees the Ubirds flying around and wants to know where they're going, there's not much Winter can do to deter her from getting into one and heading to Fuschia Beach.

So she's a bit of an unusual sight on the beach, in her bright yellow engineer's overalls with the sleeves tied around her waist, a full-length white shirt (with, of course, a boob window) and a bug-like mask resting on her forehead as she crouches in the sand at the very edge of the waves, watching them crest over her boots and wash over the ends of her long, long ponytails.

There's an Impidimp on her head, draped gracelessly between her ponytails with his arms framing her face, but she doesn't seem particularly bothered by it as she stands back up and pulls her recorder out.

"Log, day... fifty? Log PNLT-17. The ocean is really... really big."

Very articulate.


2) Away from the water

Eventually she moves back, and stops patrolling along the beach in favour of sitting under an umbrella so she doesn't get sunburnt, and instead works on her latest project. She's picked up a cheap EMF reader from a hardware store and a spare Pokegear from the Pokemon Center in Fuschia, and is getting to work disassembling both on her large towel. This is an inherently poor choice of location for delicate electronics work but it doesn't seem to bother her at all - it certainly doesn't bother the Impidimp now sleeping on her head, or the Beldum floating upside-down around her as she works, its eye locked on her hands as she works her own personal kind of magic.

"Yeah. It... kinda is," the Soldier Winter says from behind her, wearing the kind of blank expression that doesn't say "hiding emotion" or even "not having emotion" but rather "thinking about something really hard". There's a memory poking at him, or at least he thinks it's a memory, but it's not making itself clear yet.

Possibly because it's being drowned out by all the other beach-goers. "Did you not get a good look at it? In Cherrygrove?"

Bucky/Winter | OTA

The Soldier does not like most of this.

Winter does not like most of this. (He's working on it, he likes the name, he loves that Entrapta basically gave it to him, but it's slow going changing the paths in his brain.)

Whatever he's calling himself doesn't change the fact that the beach is too crowded, there are far too many electric-type pokemon here all sparking with (chill) excitement, and he can't actually keep an eye on every potential path of attack when every potential path of attack is everywhere. He is on edge, one hand in Grace the Absol's ruff most of the time, or else in Dugan the Mudbray's bristly mane as potential protection from all that electricity.

It's not all bad, though. The sun is warm. The water is pretty. Entrapta is not actively endangering herself, just happily sitting under her umbrella tinkering with her newest toy.

Most of the time, the Soldier's-- Winter's-- found right by her side, except in the rare instances when she chases him off on an errand. Want to run into him buying drinks and lunch? Or nervously side-stepping a pair of those pikachu that come scampering over his path? Or finding a moment in the shade away from the commotion to count breaths and bury his face in his hands to pretend there's nobody around at all, with one of his pokemon nudging his elbow supportively?

On one of his errands, he picks up a tail. Catra remains suspicious of this world and the people in it - and moreover, she's acutely aware of just how far Entrapta leans in the other direction. Maybe he's harmless, maybe he genuinely cares about Entrapta - but maybe he's another Hordak. Or worse, another her.

She does intend on approaching eventually, but first, she wants to see just what he gets up to while not attached to the princess. And thus: tailing him. She's skilled at stealth - but the unnerving changes to her body to make her appear like any other inhabitant of this strange world have robbed her of much of her ability to add a third dimension to her pathing, and so there may be the occasional slip. Not a huge one, perhaps, but enough for someone who is himself trained in surveillance and countersurveillance to notice, certainly.

[Into the Ocean!] [cw: drowning]

Yaaaaay!!

[Spinel's been to Beach City, so she vaguely knows what a beach is, but she's never really taken the opportunity to try swimming before. And she sees everyone else in the water, mostly with floats and surfboards.

So she runs directly into the ocean, splashing around playfully...

Until she realizes she doesn't actually know how to swim. And that wouldn't be a problem, but humans need air to breathe. She sputters, and her swimming becomes less playful, and more desperate.]

Help!

[Bonfire]

[After a tough day of nearly drowning, Spinel settles down next to the bonfire with a handful of marshmallows. If there's anything Spinel can't resist, it's sweets. So she mimics what other people are doing and puts hers on a stick, holding it up to the fire. Once it's nice and crispy, she pops the melty marshmallow into her mouth.]

This is the best thing I've ever had...

Ocean

[...Welp. That's awkward. Very awkward.

Luckily, Riku's an islander. He grew up around the ocean, so when he sees her sputtering, you can bet he's paddling over.]

Hang on!

[So now there's a twenty-something silver haired guy closing in. But seeing her erratic splashing, he whistles, and...]

There's a splash a short distance away, and Spinel may find... something pushing up underneath of her.

Namely, a Blastoise shell.]

Padak | ota

[Padak took the ubird in an attempt to get away... even though she's not really sure what she's getting away from, she knows she doesn't want to stay in New Bark Town. When she's dropped off at the beach in Fuschia, she's startled by the sheer number of people there. Part of her desperately wants to get away, but then she sees the ocean.

Home.

Padak barely knows how to walk, so she stumbles forward on shaky legs. It doesn't matter, she'll crawl there if she has to. She only has one goal in mind: flinging herself into the ocean.

Too bad she hasn't realized humans can't breathe underwater.]

[Bonfire]

[After learning that despite being so close to her home, she couldn't actually go back to living in the ocean, Padak sits next to the bonfire with a tired expression. She's the only one there that looks like she's not enjoying herself very much.]

Willow Amarina | OC | OTA (will match style)

1. Be not alarmed, she isn't dead, just sunbathing.
[This is likely the first thing to catch your attention as you're going along the beach, a large Staraptor just sunning herself on the beach without her trainer anywhere nearby. Near the Staraptor is a fierce looking Corviknight, glaring anyone down who would try and disturb the contented bird with anything but concern or familiarity. The truth is, Willow is right on the other side of the large metal bird, polishing the armoured section of his body before she pokes her head out to one side after hearing a soft bird huff.]

Ah-- Worry not, that is a thing that birds to when they are comfortable in the sunlight. She is not ill or injured, just relaxing. Are you relaxing as much as she is?

[Not that she means to ask if you've been sprawled out like a bird!]

2. Swimming!!
[After giving Sage a good polish and Lani being done with sunning herself, the duo taking a flight up in the skies as Kira hangs back near the beach within eyesight of Willow and playing with the other Pikachu around, Willow herself has taken to the water with her Swablu clinging to the top of her head trying in vain not to get wet but ultimately failing and beginning to look deflated and her shiny Growlithe wading around and letting the Pikachu try to teach him to surf. Key word, trying, as the poor canine cannot come to balance well enough on any of the boards and sulkingly doggy paddles closer to his trainer and barks, having been given a frisbee by one of the beach bums near the Pikachu. Fetch? Fetch. She lobs the frisbee a good distance and then winces as Kieran looks like he's going to slam right into someone.]

WATCH OUT!!!

3. Bonfire
[After the daylight festivities and everyone back in their balls besides Nova and Kieran, Willow is sitting with them near the bonfire, perhaps Willow is a little too close to it. This is not something she can help, however, she is drawn to the fire. She is fire, at least in her world, but that changes very little to how she basks in and enjoys the heat, even if it will burn later. However she's not dangerously close, just closer than the others and sitting in the sand instead as she partakes in some of the food and the s'mores that she had purchased earlier, willing to share with others having had a wonderful day. If you pay attention and look into her eyes as she looks around, it'll seem like the fire is dancing in her golden-yellow eyes, similar to how it would in her home although not the same; but the fire looks magical in them as she smiles and offers a s'more.]
