video - 001
[For those who happen to check into this particular Pokegear feed, they'll find a... bit of a mess at first. It's the awkward fumbling glitch of a person who has never used technology: random noises, constantly shifting camera views, going from selfie mode to camera mode... a mess! But eventually, after a few minutes of this mess, the scene finally stabilizes...]
[To a view of a video game loading screen. To be exact, Misty Mendacity.]
[After another second, a smaller screen pops up in the corner of the video - the camera of the Pokegear that's streaming this whole mess. And it's not a person, despite the name attached to this Pokegear being "Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd". Rather, it's.. a Rattata.]
[Yes, someone's Pokemon has learned how to use it before the actual owner.]
[Yes, a purple rat is streaming what the kids call a "let's play".]
[The head of a rather skeptical Shinx joins the Rattata as the game starts, leading through the opening scene with an ominous Mismagius explaining the story, and then the first level starts off with what looks like a hotel and way too much Aipom imagery scattered about. It seems to play sort of like a 3D Pacman, for those familiar with that game...]
[And, also, you know, murderous looking Aipom animatics with enormous teeth that lead to a jump scare and "death" screen.]
[The first time this happens, the Rattata shrieks and scurries off while the Shinx merely jolts in surprise before leaning forward with the glare of suspicious cats everywhere. After a few moments, the Rattata creeps back with morbid curiosity, and hits the 'continue' button.]
[Encourage the Rattata's endeavors? Or wait a few hours later until there's the sound of a door opening into what's clearly a hotel room behind the little Rattata and a confused (and deep, if you're into that) voice speaks up.]
What are you doing...?

What are you doing...?

[Ah. Noted. Zuke pondered for a moment and wondered how to go about this to someone who clearly was lost on this.]
Video games are really fun, and they test your attention span and mental reflexes.
[Said rat was now happily munching on the guy's hair, haha. Zuke's Grookey waved his stick at him, saying hello.]
no subject
[Huh. Dimitri is pretty sure no one has to question his attention span, because he can stick to stuff for, oh.... Over five years. Over a decade, actually, maybe.]
[Still... Mental reflexes is a new one. While Gremlin the Rattata waves back and almost falls off of his shoulder, Dimitri idly pushes him back up.]
I suppose that means... How one quickly can react to changes?
no subject
[DID HE REALLY? Zuke knows there's an honest attempt at understanding, so it's good to let him know when he was on the right track.]
Games like what your rat pal was playing are meant to make you nervous, so you have to be on your toes to react. Takes a steel mind to play that stuff.
no subject
[Sort of like the games of war he used to play as a child, before actual war happened. Which he supposes is why those games were included in the first place. Do video games have the same purpose?]
[...Oh. Right.]
...Thank you for keeping him company. [Dimitri is pretty sure his rat is a part of his soul somehow - don't ask - and anyone taking care of him should at least get that much.] I am Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd.... and this is Gremlin.
[The Rattata makes a cheerful little rat noise.]
no subject
I'm Zuke. Just "Zuke". This here is Terbangan, nice to meet you both.
[His green plant monkey gave a cheerful screech before deciding he wanted to drum more; banging his stick on the wall.]
We're, uh, travelling musicians. Apparently. So maybe we'll see each other.
no subject
It is... a respectable trade. A friend of mine was a dancer, once... Although he did not care for it.
[Dimitri knows that musicians and dancers are not quite the same but, from what he understands, there are some similarities in the field when it comes to battle.]
no subject
Better to do what you like instead of being stuck with something you end up not liking. Been into it since I was a kid so kinda why I stuck with my own pursuits there. Once you know, you know.
no subject
[Dimitri has never known anything in his life, besides maybe incoherent rage and massive depression.]
I think... that is only something not everyone can possess. Although I wonder if that is different for this place...
[What do the dead even do? Besides, you know, haunt their loved ones and remind them that they're failures, he guesses. He's kind of glad that, whatever kind of dead he is, at least he's not making his friends more miserable.]
no subject
It sounded...kinda sad. But he just met Dimitri, so again, asking out of the blue what the deal was is a recipe for being really rude and a disaster. Zuke knew his social standing and his graces, it wouldn't be right to overstep himself.]
Seems to me like you're free to do whatever you want here. Within reason. Like new opportunities?
Like, I bet everyone when they first here has to adjust and find a path for themselves.
no subject
[...]
...I have to make up for things I have done.
[He really needs to find a private place away from Chip to talk about the whole Being Dead Thing.]
no subject
But again, that had to be Dimitri's choice to tell and speak of it.
There was still a gentle kindness in him, as he finally found the words.]
I believe in second chances.
Or a first one. But I think taking that offer from me is up to you.
no subject
[Unless... Dimitri inspects Zuke a bit more. He doesn't seem like someone from his home... but who knows, really?]
...Do you know of Fodlan?
no subject
[That was meant to be a transitional statement. To follow the concerning statement he heard before without forcibly being direct about it.]
So I’m just a guy here from a place far away, as far as the locals are concerned. But that’s the lot of us who have these gadgets and little partners.
We’re all in the same boat, rocking the waves.
no subject
[Is that in Dagda? It sounds like a city that could be in Dagda... Although Dimitri supposes the only person he knows from there is Shamir.]
[Dimitri falls silent for a moment - a long moment, actually, and there's something about his empty gaze that says he doesn't quite realize that time is passing him by like it is.]
...You seem to be a good person.
[Enjoy that sudden compliment, Zuke.]
no subject
...Did he feel like he was a good person? He made a number of mistakes in his life and unintentionally hurt people. Choosing to run away instead from conflict in his life.
It was an issue he hoped he came forth about in recent times but still yet, it was hard to accept it so fully. That he was a good person.
The wheels in his head churned a bit and after a few seconds of shock, he spoke.]
I'm just some guy, but thanks. I just wanna be honest, is all.
no subject
For myself... It is not something I deserve, not something I can lay a claim to or say I should have.
no subject
[He tried to smile at him. Though Zuke, upon second introspection, realized that could sound empty.
Well, he wanted to be sincere about this. Dimitri seemed like he needed it.]
You can't change anything you did, but you're here now and we're talking. I think you're pretty neat? So, you can take that as meaning something if you want.
no subject
[But...]
I can't change anything I did... but I'm here now.
[Just a quiet echo, with Dimitri's expression drifting off a little bit. After a moment, he shakes his head.]
...I will think about that. I... There is a lot to think on, here.
[What else can he do? Without his goal of revenge, without that accompanying rage, what else can he do but think?]
