[For those who happen to check into this particular Pokegear feed, they'll find a... bit of a mess at first. It's the awkward fumbling glitch of a person who has never used technology: random noises, constantly shifting camera views, going from selfie mode to camera mode... a mess! But eventually, after a few minutes of this mess, the scene finally stabilizes...]

[To a view of a video game loading screen. To be exact, Misty Mendacity.]

[After another second, a smaller screen pops up in the corner of the video - the camera of the Pokegear that's streaming this whole mess. And it's not a person, despite the name attached to this Pokegear being "Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd". Rather, it's.. a Rattata.]

[Yes, someone's Pokemon has learned how to use it before the actual owner.]

[Yes, a purple rat is streaming what the kids call a "let's play".]

[The head of a rather skeptical Shinx joins the Rattata as the game starts, leading through the opening scene with an ominous Mismagius explaining the story, and then the first level starts off with what looks like a hotel and way too much Aipom imagery scattered about. It seems to play sort of like a 3D Pacman, for those familiar with that game...]

[And, also, you know, murderous looking Aipom animatics with enormous teeth that lead to a jump scare and "death" screen.]

[The first time this happens, the Rattata shrieks and scurries off while the Shinx merely jolts in surprise before leaning forward with the glare of suspicious cats everywhere. After a few moments, the Rattata creeps back with morbid curiosity, and hits the 'continue' button.]

[Encourage the Rattata's endeavors? Or wait a few hours later until there's the sound of a door opening into what's clearly a hotel room behind the little Rattata and a confused (and deep, if you're into that) voice speaks up.]

What are you doing...?

[Not gonna lie, Jane kind of found this post on accident and just...has been watching it to destress from her Badgequest. It's been a long and eventful few months, and it's nowhere near finished, but moments like this? A cute lil Ratatta playing a video game, a kind of interesting one to boot? Very soothing.

Why yes, she does watch long enough to encounter mystery deep voice, just as she's in the middle of commenting-]

Try turning left at the - oh! Um, sorry? I guess you didn't know your Pokemon had gotten into an app, huh?

[There'd been a hand reaching down to take up the Pokegear right around the time Jane speaks up - ]

[And the Pokegear goes flying through the air - sorry for the motion sickness, Jane - before crashing very loudly into what is presumably a wall, and turning off.]

[After about ten minutes, the video feed reconnects, and there stands an incredibly awkward one eyed viking. The Rattata from before is draped across his shoulders, gently gnawing on the tips of his hair. Don't worry about it.]

...I am unfamiliar with this device. I owe... apologies.

[If it looks like he hasn't slept, it's fine, don't worry about it.]

Jane is just. Kind of pulled back a little, wide-eyed, not sure what prompted that sort of reaction, and then - oh my.

Sir you look like you need to faceplant in a bed.]

N-No, I'm...sorry? For...startling you? D-did I startle you, sir?

Zuke was scrolling the gear for people with tips on how to survive This when he stumbled onto this. Huh. Huuuuh...

Looked like someone hijacked the gear and went to town. This was a lot like the stuff online he would watch at home. But nah, he could check off watching a rat play video games now. This place was proving a first for everything.

So he got out a bag of cheesepuffs from his bag and Zuke and his own little green monkey started to chow down watching it play.]

...Uh oh, that was a close one.

-Oop, got caught in a different way though.

[After some brief technical difficulties, Dimitri comes back on, with that same Rattata chewing on his hair while hanging from his shoulder.]

Was.... what he was doing entertaining? The- video game?

[Dimitri's pronunciation of "video game" is perfectly fine, but there's definitely a... cadence of someone who has never said those words combined before in his life.]

He's was doing pretty good, yeah.

[Ah. Noted. Zuke pondered for a moment and wondered how to go about this to someone who clearly was lost on this.]

Video games are really fun, and they test your attention span and mental reflexes.

[Said rat was now happily munching on the guy's hair, haha. Zuke's Grookey waved his stick at him, saying hello.]

I see.

[Huh. Dimitri is pretty sure no one has to question his attention span, because he can stick to stuff for, oh.... Over five years. Over a decade, actually, maybe.]

[Still... Mental reflexes is a new one. While Gremlin the Rattata waves back and almost falls off of his shoulder, Dimitri idly pushes him back up.]

I suppose that means... How one quickly can react to changes?

[DID HE REALLY? Zuke knows there's an honest attempt at understanding, so it's good to let him know when he was on the right track.]

Games like what your rat pal was playing are meant to make you nervous, so you have to be on your toes to react. Takes a steel mind to play that stuff.

[Chip had been curled up at the head of the other bed in the room, watching the Gear avidly (and occasionally looking up when Gremlin scampers away from the screen). They barely even blink when Dimitri walks in, looking up and answering without a beat--]

They're streaming!

Streaming...? What is-

[But right as he crouches down to pick the Pokeager up, someone actually speaks up in reaction to what's going on, and, well-]

[Sorry, Chip, the medieval fantasy knight just panicked and flung the Pokegear across the room.]

[demonpuppy]

Ah--!

[Chip flinches and curls up reflexively, hesitating before they peek out...okay. Okay, he was just. Scared of the Pad? They're still definitely spooked when they reply.]

It's...it's a video thing? Wait, um--it's like a play, but it's in the box...?

[nastyboy]

[Oh no. Oh no. He scared a child. Well, he's basically guaranteed eternal damnation now, if literally every other aspect of his life hadn't already.]

[Letting Gremling see if the Pokegear is alright, Dimitri immediately turns to Chip and raises his hands apologetically. He doesn't approach them right away, either - he can still remember how uncertain they were of him when they all met.]

I'm sorry. I- was rash. It surprised me. Are you all right?

N-no, you--it's--

[Chip sucks in a sharp breath and shakes their head, trying to will away their panic. Dimitri's nice, he won't--they didn't even do anything this time! It's fine!]

I'm okay! I just...it was loud.

[Doppio here happens to tune in a minute or so before yet another jumpscare, which is unfortunate because a) he has no idea what he's watching at first and b) he is very definitely NOT expecting a horrible bug-eyed monkey to come running straight at the screen, so he flings his PokéGear away with a yelp.

So he's just going to... retrieve his PokéGear now... while being unaware that his end of the feed turned on somewhere in the middle of his screaming and flailing.]

[RIP in peace, my dude]

[But the sound of a human yelp has earned the Rattata's curiosity, and the rat scurries back as well to peer at the screen. Immediately, leaving the game on the "CONTINUE?", he starts to paw at the screen where Doppio is displayed.]

[HEY WHAT'S UP WITH YOU, MY GOOD BRO]

[epitaffio]

[Damn it, is this thing on? This thing is totally on, isn't it. Doppio sighs.

... And then he softly pokes the screen, right about where the Rattata is pawing at.]

Hey there. Were you really the one playing...? I think you're better at videogames than I am. Then again, I've never played one, so...

[The Rattata's ears perk up as he's spoken to, and he lightly pats a little rat hand against the screen where, presumably, Doppio's own finger is. At least, on his side if nothing else.]

[There's some Pokemon gibberish when Doppio admits he's never played, and he cocks his head to the side. Why not, bud?]

[Kazuki, once he realizes that it's a Pokemon playing a video game, simply watches as if he were browsing StaryuTube. Because it's cute! But when the jumpscare pops up, he yelps and flinches back along with the Rattata.]

It's one of those games? I can't deal with horror...

[When he skitters back, the Rattata flails his little front paws around as if to go CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT]

I know, right? Why does anyone think that's fun? Jump scares give me heart attacks!

[There's more rat flailing. What this means is a question for the ages.]

[At some point, however, that flailing gains a purpose, and Gremlin the Rattata clicks out of Misty Mendacity. Instead, the screen is now on a page on different games to download...]

[A lot of the mare horror. Of course they are. It's October. No wonder the rat tripped into one. Still, he's carefully surveying his options.... and has apparently forgotten to scroll down for things possibly not horror related.]
