[video] /aggressively insists the off-brand is the real deal

[The video starts with an awkward close up of a young child, face scrunched up as they navigate the Gear's interface. Once they realize it's started recording, they pull it back to a proper framing, though.]

--didn't know they put this in--um, hi! I'm Chip, I just got my first Palien a week ago! His name's Lazzo and he's a...um...

[They reach for their Pokedex and fiddle with it some until the tinny voice comes on with 'Salandit, the toxic lizard Pokemon'.]

Right, a Salandit! Um, does anyone know why they're using weird names for stuff? And Patty's just got one type, it's really weird...

But! Right I was gonna ask, where can I find a Espcheep? I really really wanna get one for real! I tried looking in the 'Pedia, but there's nothing in there and they've gotta be around!

[ A child! On the internet! Also new? That in mind, Kirishima's just guessing Chip has mashed 'Pokemon' and 'aliens' together - kind of clever!

Red eyes widen as the squirming Salandit is presented. ]

Woah, it looks like he's wearing a mask! That's awesome!

Hey, it looks like someone else is over there with you. Is that Rattata supposed to be getting into that?

[ Kirishima knows Rattata well after being constantly assaulted by them, but also because some other kid he made the mistake of giving his number to calls him on the regular about theirs. Sometimes right in the middle of the night. ]

Does he? [Pokemon and child look to eachother, then back to the screen.] It just looks like his face to me.

[They shrug when the Ratatta antics are pointed out.] Oh, Dimitri doesn't use it anyway, it's fine.

Yeah, though more when you're looking at him straight on.

[ Kirishima gives a little hand gesture from the middle of his nose towards the camera to indicate forward facing. ]

It looks like a bandana or something tied at the back. Reminds me of one of those movies with a mystery swordsman.

[ He's debating on saying something more about the Rattata and he hopes 'Dimitri' is someone looking out for this kid.

It should be noted that right now he's sitting in a pretty dark area, wherever he is, with the light of the Gear illuminating his face, upper chest, and parts of his cherry red hair. This is important because the grey-skinned, wide-mouthed face of a Machop suddenly seems to just manifest out of the darkness over Kirishima's shoulder like a specter. ]

[Chip doesn't notice it at first--they've gone back to peering at their Salandit from different angles, and it's not until they turn back that the looming face registers.]

I don't really--oh, yeah! it kinda does--YOU GOT A NECRO TYPE!!

[And instead of scared they are VERY ENTHUSIASTIC!!]

[ Kirishima's brow furrows in confusion before he turns his head. Seeing his Pokemon so close, he gives a little jolt and the camera jitters and falls. It's caught, but instead of going back to Kirishima, it wheels around and is brought closer to the face of the Machop, filling the screen with a red eye and a hint of washed-out, grey skin. The eye squints at Chip.

It's still Kirishima's voice, which gives a nervous little laugh before: ]

Machop's a Fighting type! Sorry, we're inside of Union Cave, so it's kinda dark. He's my first.

Nice save, dude. Can I have it back?

[ The second part is to the Pokemon in question. The eye flickers over before the camera rocks back to frame a grinning Kirishima with his arm around the shoulders of his starter. It's a shot sort of reminiscent of a proud big brother holding onto a more skeptical little brother. ]

What's a Necro type?

[ Kirishima is still relatively new to his Pokemon journey and not someone terribly good at academics. ]

[Chip wrinkles their nose in confusion trying to puzzle that one out (is that like Kinetic???), but Kirishima's question cuts that off.]

Oh, they're the dead ones! His skin's all grey and I didn't see the rest of him at first, is why I thought.

Oh! Yeah, Machop's just like that! He's grey but it's more like stone, not a dead person. It probably seems like he's more pale cuz of the light! He has a lot of martial arts moves that he just... naturally learns as he levels up? It's kinda crazy, I'm not even gonna lie to you, Chip. I've watched dudes take years to learn what he's figured out in a couple of weeks!

[ Kirishima reaches up to 'ruffle' the 'hair' of his Machop, exposing the golden ridges over his brow. Machop accepts this, giving his trainer a fond but also put-upon side-eye. He doesn't need this kind of affection! And strangers are watching him get loved on, you jerk, stop! Machop likes it, though, he's just a little embarrassed. ]

I have a Ghost type Pokemon over here if you want to check it out! I'm guessin' Necro types more like zombies?
