Apparently, this world forbids real weapons and real battle, and I refuse to let my skills dull. I'm told training swords are acceptable. Someone out there has to be good enough to be worthy of a spar. So consider this a challenge.

Until I wed and was... promoted, I was Lord Captain of Baron's Red Wings. Even now, the kingdom's knights are under my direct command. I've also had the opportunity to test my blade from over a dozen different worlds, thanks to the squabbles of two pairs or warring gods. Finding myself in a world where sword are forbidden was a disappointment, you could say.

Hmph. A disappointment...what an understatement. You're a knight, then? That's unfortunate. But fighting in different worlds must have given you insight into quite the breadth of techniques. I think I could learn a lot from you.

I was a dark knight, once, but I've become a paladin since. It's a far less dangerous profession, and one that serves the needs of the people of Baron better besides.

It's certainly taught me how to battle against unconventional weapons. I doubt my carefully refined card-dodging techniques will be of much use to you, but there's no harm in picking up such skills along the way.

Is paladin not just another kind of knight? Either way, it sounds like your kingdom and mine have a few things in common. I wonder whether yours is as obsessed with false and dangerous ideals as mine.

...Baron has many problems, most of which are still a work in progress, but I must say that false and dangerous ideals are not on that list.

[Or at least not in the top twenty.]
