Bakers, start your baking!
Who: Everybody!
Where: Riegfried and Soy's mansion
When: January 15th; day time for the cooking part, evening for the mingle part.
Summary: Come one, come all to the newest contest hosted by Riegfried and Soy. Today's theme: cooking!

[Daytime - The kitchens]
Throughout the day, the kitchens will be open to all contestants, though any casual onlookers --human, pokemon, or otherwise-- will be shooed out to prevent any cheating.
Each contestant will be directed to a gleaming counter, where they will be able to find everything from your basic whisk and spatula to gleaming kitchen machinery fancy enough to make any cook feel faint with envy. Each counter comes complete with a small fridge (should you need to chill any of your ingredients), an oven, a stove, a microwave -- really, anything you can imagine and it is there. Riegfried and Soy clearly didn't want anyone to run into the issue of not having the right equipment for the job.
At the back of the room are the fridges: tall, imposing fridges made of gleaming metal stocked full of every sort of ingredient you could possibly think of. And next to the fridges, contestants can find rows and rows of shelves, each nearly bowing under the weight of the products placed on them -- from fresh fruit, to spices, to rice and noodles. If you need it, you can find it.
Riegfried and Soy will be flitting around the room like a pair of extravagant Butterfrees, happy to engage contestants in small interviews. Everything for the camera, baby! Because those are also there; they are clearly trying to stay out of everybody's way, but small, Rotom-powered cameras flit around the room for close-ups, while cameramen and women with heavy-duty equipment get the distance shots. Hopefully, you haven't got an issue with stage fright.
[Evening - The show]
And when all is said and done, and the last dishes have been cooked, it's time for the actual show. There is some time between the actual cooking and this part of the evening, during which contestants have a chance to change their clothing and freshen up, but before too long, the mansion's doors open to the guests, who are herded by the cheerful hosts to an enormous hall.
The hall itself is set up with all manner of comforts. There are some small tables and chairs for anyone who wants to sit down for a while. Long tables line the sides of the room, absolutely laden with all manner of refreshments. There is even a special table set aside where the dishes the contestants made (at least the ones that made it to this part of the evening) are displayed and ready for tasting.
The schedule for the night is rather straightforward.
After some meet-and-greet and time for every last guest to arrive, the day's events (cut and edited by a very exhausted camera crew) will be projected onto a huge screen for all to enjoy. The votes will be tallied afterward and awards and prizes will be handed out. The rest of the evening will give the winners a chance to celebrate, the losers a chance to commiserate, and everybody else to clear the buffet of everything edible.

Ashe and Ky the Piplup
Oh I know! How about buns? The sweet and meat buns we had back home were great! What do you think? [Ashe asked his Piplup who chirped happily in response.]
Okay! Buns it is! Come on let's go get everything ready.
[Piplup chirped in response as he followed Ashe over to the cabinet. He got distracted among all the different food in front of him. Piplup helped him focus and get the yeast needed for the buns. Ashe forgot that it was a televised show. He was so focused on getting everything ready that when someone came by the counter for an interview he didn't really know what to say. He explained that he was going to make sweet buns and meat buns, so people could have their choice. Once the crew went away Ashe started cooking.
Once the buns were finished he placed the sweet buns on one plate and the meat buns on another. While he arranged the buns Piplup chirped at anyone who walked by the counter.]
Ready! The blue plate is for the sweet buns and the red plate is for the meat ones. I made a lot so there should be enough!
[Not that he didn't mind going back to cook some more. They had amazing equipment okay!]
no subject
[Still, he forces himself to step forward, fighting against his own desire to just hide under something.]
Ashe... Hello.
[His Raticate peers around his legs curiously, not knowing why her trainer might be so nervous.]
[As for Ashe, he might be able to pick up on how Dimitri certainly looks a little bit different than how he was, for Ashe, was only a short while ago. He looks very much like the man after Gronder Field, only perhaps not entirely as openly miserable. But he is more... quiet, and tired, than the dark and violent man from before.]
no subject
Hmm? What's up Ky? Wait let me put these back. [Ashe placed the butter back in the fridge before he turned to the counter. He blinked in surprise at the man in front of him.]
Dimitri?
[He remembered the last time he saw Dimitri when he was so worried about him, though he didn't look as frenzied as before. Ashe smiled as he walked around the counter.] It's great to see you again! [He did look tired, but when is the last time any of them got any sleep? Ashe looked down at the Raticate at his legs and waved to her.] Hi friend, have you been watching him for me?
[Ashe turned back as his Piplup walked over to Dimitri and looked up then chirped over at Ashe. He laughed and gave him a reassuring smile.] He's a friend Ky! Sorry, Ky is a little feisty. [He's also protective of him too.] How are you? What did you make for the contest?
no subject
[He'd also never truly understood why someone that good could stay with a creature like him.]
[Dimitri lets the tiny little bird judge him as necessary, and lightly pats Hob's head so that she can stop huffing at Ky.]
I... I have been doing better.
[Against all odds, he has been doing better. He doesn't know what to make of that.]
Tell me, Ashe, what... do you last recall? Back in Fodlan?
no subject
Ashe reassured his Piplup that Dimitri is a friend. Piplup stopped chirping at Dimitri and Hob, but stayed close to Ashe's leg. He laughed with an amused shake of his head.]
That's good, I'm glad you have. [He looks better for the most part too. At the mention of home Ashe hummed as he slid his hand through his hair. He picked up Piplup who chirped frantically when he sensed his change of demeanor. He rubbed his head as he thought back.]
We just finished the battle of Gronder Field and we were going back home. I remember being so exhausted I couldn't do kitchen duty. I think we just made some quick stew, I ate it, then went to bed. I heard that Byleth was looking for you, but I didn't know where you were, so I told them that I didn't know.
[That was such a brutal battle that he didn't know he was holding Piplup until he chirped and tapped his arm with his flipper. Ashe gave him a reassure smile and hugged him.]
What do you remember?
no subject
[Dimitri's gaze starts to slide away, partially shame, yes, but also because his mind is starting to drift. He's not entirely sure how he gets it back on track, only that he forces himself to continue looking over to Ashe.]
...We had just begun the march on Gronder.
Ashe, I - [A part of him wants to stop existing, just become a void of an existence, but he knows he cannot do that. Dimitri shakes his head.] ...I am sorry for failing you.
no subject
Dimitri...you never failed me. [Ashe placed Piplup on the counter and rubbed his head then walked over to Dimitri.] Out of all the things that have happened you never failed me during any of it. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you anymore than I can. I may have my bow, my cooking, and the former skills I have as a thief to offer you as my way of thanks for accepting me. Despite everything that happened you never failed me Dimitri. You made the best decisions you could have with what we had to work with. It was a hard time, but I never thought you failed me.
[Ashe gave him a small reassuring smile.] I mean it, Dimitri.
no subject
[Still. His eye aches, and Dimitri has to cast his gaze downwards for a moment so that he can blink a few times and fight it back.]
...Thank you, Ashe.
[Many days, he wonders what on earth he could have done to earn such loyalty from such good people.]
I cannot help with cooking, or any such aspect, but if there is any other way I can help you here...
no subject
You're welcome, Dimitri.
[Ashe nodded with the same smile not leaving his face.]
I'll be sure to let you know. Um, would you like to try one? They're not too sweet or spicy, but you're welcome to try one! What did you make?
[At the mention of their food Piplup started to chirp and wave his flippers. Now that he knows Dimitri isn't a bad guy he's more than happy to show off their work.]
no subject
[And he is certain that Hob will enjoy it more than him, although a split open bun sounds like it could smell rather nice.]
We plan on making fried bread... Well, we have already made some, but we have more we will be making.
[A lot more. A lot.... so much. Yes.]
no subject
[Ashe smiled at Hob as he stood up and walked back over to the counter to grab his half while Piplup enjoyed their half.]
Sounds good, I'd love to try some if you have anymore.
no subject
[Gently blowing on his own bun, Dimitri starts to lead Ashe over to where his own counter is.]
They are nothing near as good as what you can make... But I have been told they are coming along well.
no subject
Thank you, but I make those buns all the time. I'm sure your bread will be delicious. [Ashe still isn't used to compliments.]
What have you been up to since you've been here? I read somewhere that you can earn badges. Have you been doing that?
[Ashe didn't know if he would want to earn badges, though he would find a place for Piplup to train. He had a lot of energy to burn.]
no subject
[Sorry, Ashe, he is Determined on this compliment train. Still, he leads Ashe to his own work station, talking as he goes.]
I have been.... recuperating, I suppose. [You know. Getting his mental health in check. Learning to enjoy things properly. Communicating with people again. It's a little dizzying still, honestly.] But Chip - ah, he is the child of a man I am traveling with, Grant - Chip wishes to win those badges themself. Badges seem to be useful, at least for those who are trainers, so... I have been attempting them.
[Besides, it gives his Pokemon a sense of accomplishment, and, well, Dimitri always wants to help them.]
[Coming to a stop at his station, Dimitri considers what he's made so far. Back when they were students... Ashe had liked fish, hadn't he? And desserts... Well, Dimitri hasn't really used any fish yet, although he's pondering if he should start messing with that.]
[But desserts? He has those. So he picks up one of the sweeter breads, decorated with a bit of honey.]
no subject
That's good. I'm glad that you've been recuperating. This world looks like it can be very good for that. [Ashe remembered the many times he walked by the monastery worried about Dimitri. It was partly the reason that Ashe trained so hard. He wanted to make sure that he was strong enough to help defend Dimitri along with their friends. However, it looked like Dimitri was doing better, much to Ashe's relief.]
That's great, I hope Chip does well in the tournament. I heard about the challenge and the badges that you can collect. I'm more interested in the breeding side of this world, though I might let Ky train so he can work off some energy. Ky was calm now that he knew Dimitri was a friend, though he didn't know how long that would last.
Ashe left his thoughts at the offer of the sweet bread. He thanked Dimitri for the piece before he got a piece for Ky then took a bite.]
This is good! I like the honey on it. Ky likes it too. [Piplup chirped happily as he ate his piece.]
How many badges have you received so far?
no subject
[But he supposes that is what happens when it looks like Pokemon are the main method of combat here. No humans needs put themselves in danger, and the Pokemon themselves are incredibly resilient, even the smallest of them. It's easy to heal them, as well.]
[That is the one thing Fodlan does not have... but perhaps he can do something similar.]
[Dimitri keeps his hand behind his back, waiting for Ashe's verdict on the bread, and nods at his question.]
I wish you the best of luck. Apparently Grant and Sylvain have also had an interest in breeding, so perhaps you may be interested to speak with them more on this.
I only have two so far... We have not been in this land for very long.
