[Camera turns on to show the face and upper torso of a smiling young man. He’s sitting in the room of an inn, a rustic wall and tall plant behind him, lit by natural lighting coming through what is presumably a window on the other side of the camera. He’s wearing the outfit in his icons, including the Juggalo facepaint, and while he doesn’t have horns or grey skin (his unpainted skin is tan), he is still showing fangs in his gentle smile.

When he speaks, somehow this literal alien sounds like he has a Detroit accent.]

Whaddup, homies! I’m Marvus Xoloto, an’ I’m new to this li’l slice a reality, as well as this social network for just us multiversal transplants, lol.

[Yes, he says “lol” out loud.]

Now, don’t worry yourselves, this ain’t just a borin’ and straightforward meet 'n greet. I know what’s up, ufeelme?

[He gestures at the blank space beside his head and an embedded picture link leading to a StaryuTube video fades in above his hand. It has the face of a shiny Mime Jr clasping his hands to his cheeks, pasted over an image of a little Poochyena looking over his shoulder at the camera with a surprised expression.]

Heh heh I gotchu, fam, here’s my Pokemon Tax.

[A small Pumpkaboo painted a black and white diamond pattern floats into frame and lands behind the link in Marvus’ flat palm, which makes him chuckle and move his hand so that she’s in front of him.]

Looks like you’re gettin’ a double tax today, lmao. Catch ya later!

[The linked video (channel name: clownbae) starts out with another brief intro from Marvus, (“Whoop whoop, buddies!”) but is mostly nicely edited footage of the Mime Jr “Bip” meeting the Poochyena “Bata” out on one of the Routes. Marvus refers to Bip as “a li’l miracle” because he apparently just showed up at his camp one evening. Eventually, the Pokemon work out some sort of play agreement and the last half of the video is Bip riding Bata like a tiny dog horse and the two of them galloping around excitedly in the forest.]

[The man holding this Gear is... clearly not particularly familiar with cameras, or comfortable using one, judging by how he holds it at arm's length. It probably doesn't help that he's trying to gently fend off a Pikipek that seems determined to remove one of his eyebrows.

Apparently, however, neither his aggressive little bird nor his own unfamiliarity with this device can stop him from asking:]
I didn't realize footage of Paliens was an expected part of these videos...?

[The fact that one of his is attacking him at this moment is actually a coincidence.

Also, yes, he just called them Paliens, don't worry about it.]

Influencer... shizz? [Listen he can ignore most of the words that he doesn't understand, but he feels like that particular phrase might've been... really important to getting what this young man is trying to convey?

He brightens a bit, though, when Marvus comments on Bitingbird, even though said bird is still working very hard to live up to his name.]
Isn't he? Bitingbird's temperament can be a bit... difficult to manage, but I believe he will grow up quite well.

[Note that he never said he expects Bitingbird to mellow out. He can hope for it, but such future developments are a mystery even to him.]

Who do you have there?

And that is... a feasible course of action? [He's not even incredulous, necessarily, he just fully doesn't understand a lot about this sort of thing. Like he sees no reason that couldn't be a thing, it's just new information to him, like a lot of things are.

Wanting to be well-liked makes sense, though.]
Ah, yes - and these Pokemon videos are meant to accomplish that. [He is nodding. He understands.

And he watches that Pumpkaboo float away with some delight. She moves like a Pet!!! Adorable.]
What a charming creature. She seems quite comfortable with you.

I see... so it's a more one-sided form of bonding behaviors based around one's pets?

[Grandpa learns about parasocial relationships! And, frankly, sounds kind of fascinated by the idea. The range of ways social animals bond is really incredible.

He nods, smiling just a bit wryly as Bitingbird, having briefly lost interest, renews his efforts to do... whatever he thinks he's going to accomplish by attacking his Trainer's face. Millennial Tree Cookie pushes him gently away again.]
That, it does not. That resilience must be valuable, among humans to whom their capture is so important.

[Help. With all this slang, it feels like this guy is speaking a whole other language, even if Armin knows that whatever just left this... strangely outfitted man's mouth is absolutely english.]

U-uhm, I'm sorry. Pokemon tax?

[Armin has been here for four years and he's never heard of any sort of taxed pokemon.]

[Armin's responses are slightly delayed, mainly because he really needs to think about what this man is saying to understand what he meant.]

Ah, I see. I had never heard of an expression like that before, but then, where I am from, we don't have these sort of communication methods. Or pictures, for that matter.

Thank you for explaining.
