Scientist in Training
Who: Kayo, her pokemon, and you!
What: slice of trainer life stuff
When: now, give or take a few days for different prompts
Where: around Violet City
A. Trainer's School
Kayo has been enrolled at the trainer's school for several weeks now, and she's putting in a lot of work to learn everything she can about pokemon. Especially strange for someone who claims to not enjoy battling, but she always did enjoy learning. There are classes on bonding and breeding as well, which she has attended even if she doesn't have a breeder's license.
She's sitting outside by one of the outdoor practice arenas, watching her Espurr and her Hoothoot play around with some practice moves, and is taking notes in a nearly-full notebook, with a small stack of other notebooks piled up next to her. Neko the Espurr suddenly lifts up his ears, revealing the holes underneath and a his eyes begin to glow. A wave of psychic energy comes out of him and warps the air around Fukuro the Hoothoot, who trills in surprise before stumbling around like he can't tell which way is up.
"Oh! Neko! Was that confusion?" Kayo asks, standing up so that her notebook falls out of her lap. Neko looks as surprised as she does, and meows sadly, approaching Fukuro and patting it gently on the head.
B. Ruins of Alph
Kayo has been camped out on a small picnic blanket at the ruins since early in the morning. More than just enjoying the ruins and a quiet place to eat, she's hoping to see the rare pokemon that are listed as making this place their home. For a child of twelve she is very good at sitting quietly, watching the tall grass, the trees, and the sky, her pokegear out and ready to photograph and look up any pokemon that makes itself known.
Perhaps you approach while she's quietly observing, or perhaps you stop by later in the day, when the sun rolls past noon.
Some time in the afternoon, the dull sound of rock against grass catches attention. Kayo's eyes turn from watching the sky back down to the tall grass, squinting in interest as a Stonjourner marches slowly out of the grass. Her mouth opens in a surprised and delighted "o". After a moment of frozen surprise, she lifts up her pokegear, letting it scan the new creature and pull up it's information on her little screen.
"Hello there," she says softly. "You're Stonjourner? Can I take a picture of you?"
It growls, waving it's little arms, but it holds still as if to allow for this. Delighted, Kayo snaps a photo with her 'gear, and snatches up a handful of berries from her picnic spread. "Here," she offers, rolling them carefully off her hand onto the grass between herself and the pokemon.
C. Miscellany!

Besides, she is so small and young, he really feels like someone should be looking out for this girl.]
Hi Kayo, sorry for not calling you for a few days. We've been having a little situation here at the gym. How has school been?
[Armin definitely has some spots on his face though not as many as Angel has, poor girl.]
video
[She answers as soon as she sees the name, sitting down on a bench so she doesn't walk and talk at the same time. Violet city is apparent in the background. Armin gets a tiny smile.]
I like school. [Her smile fades and she tilts her head to the side.] Are you okay?
[Define "situation".]
video
video
Oh. [Well that isn't as bad as it could be, considering... Though it makes her realize something. There are pokemon hospitals in every town, but what about for the humans!]
Are there doctors for people here?
video
[Making sure she has the right knowledge when she goes out on a journey.]
video
Well that's good.
[You shouldn't have something like the pox and not see a doctor! Kayo nods her agreement.]
The nurses are very helpful. Oh! I have a new pokémon. Dr. Pines insisted I take him.
video
If it is one Mr. Pines bred, then it's sure to be a strong one.
[Armin is well aware of Ford's proclivity for breeding Terrifying Terror Beasts.]
video
I don't really care about that.
[How strong it is, she means. But she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a ball, tapping on it until it opens up. A Rowlet appears in a flash of light, spreading his little wings and looking as big and important as he can manage. Row! he announces.]
It's called Rowlet. Grass and flying. It can throw leaves.
[Rowwww! He agrees, and Kayo turns her pokégear so Armin can see Ha the Rowlet using leafage on nothing.]
video
It's ado-- [actually, judging by how that little owl had just acted on video, Armin guesses he might not be the sort that wants to be called adorable.] really strong and cool looking.
Have you given him-- or is it a her? a name yet?
video
[It's a good call. This sassy Rowlet seems to think he's just the biggest baddest thing, ever. Kayo shakes her head indulgently and turns the camera back to herself. The Rowlet tries to shove himself into frame next to her.]
It's male. I call him Ha.
[Leaf. A very creative name just like all of the others.]
video
Ha? Does that mean something where you are from?
[Because where he is from, that really is more of an exhale than a name.]
