Ok, I think I've figured this out. Hello! My name is Annette, and I'm new here. This is Tritz!

[She smiles fondly at the Pokémon, then looks back at the screen, somewhat less hesitantly.]

I would be studying up on the trainer guide, but I set it down juuuuust out of reach, and, well, you see my dilemma.

[A tiny, pink...snoring? dilemma.]

While I'm waiting for some friends to arrive, is there anyone who can tell me more about how magic works in this world? I can't seem to get it to work, even the fundamentals. I know Tritz here has some magic, but like nothing I've ever seen before. I think from what my Gear said it's fairy magic, which is funny because as far as I know, fairies in my world are, well...fairy tales. Which I do love, of course! I just never studied them for actual magical insight or anything. Does anybody know more about human magic in this place?

[Angel clicks on her feed, offering a sort of... solemn smile. She looks a little guilty, even if she's never had a darn thing to do with the magic or lack thereof in this world. She just hates to be the one to deliver the news to those struggling without their latent talents.]

I am... sorry to approach you with less than pleasant news. But beyond sleight of hand tricks and the like, magic is inaccessible here, I am afraid. It's one of the many limitations in this place.

Truthfully, I haven't done much research into Pokemon. Their abilities may have some amount of magical essence to them. Unfortunately, I don't believe that it's accessible to humans in any capacity.

[She taps her finger against her lower lip.]

But. Some are happy to note that there are the rare few weekends that allow you to reactivate your abilities. They are fleeting and far between but... At least you have something to look forward to?

Um- our magic doesn't work here. Everyone is turned human, non-magical, and any weapons are removed so that we can integrate safely with the world I think. Some effects stay, but we can't cast for ourselves. Our pokémon are our casters and fighters instead. It's going to be hard to get used to, but they can handle it.

[ The girl looks... troubled for a moment. ]

Do you know someone named Felix?

You've met Felix? I promise you, he's really a good guy, just...prickly. He's even coming out this way to come pick me up, I think. He's really nice if you get to know him. Don't tell him I said that though, I think it'd annoy him.

[She really seems to be genuinely concerned about getting this random stranger to like and get along with Felix.]

Oh, wait...did you say no magic at all? OR weapons? That's...oh no, that must be awful for Felix. He didn't say...was he grumpy when you met him? I bet he was grumpy. Please don't let that color your opinion of him, I'd be grumpy too. All those years of hard work and training...

But yeah. I think they made some wooden weapons to keep their skills sharp? But otherwise anything dangerous or not standard to the humans here have been removed. I don't know how... but. [ She shrugs. ] Not like we can do anything about it.

I didn't really "catch" fairy tales, I just found them in libraries, or sometimes for sale in the market.

Paliens? Espers? I'm afraid I don't know what that means. Would you teach me, please?

As for magic being broken...maybe that means there's some way to fix it! Now that would be something worth studying for.

Ugh, they call them Pokemon here, I guess, but they're Paliens! And espers are like, they do stuff with their BRAINS! It just happens!!

[They are...not smart enough to comment on the magic thing, and also saying more would mean saying WHY they know magic is just McFucked, so nope.]

Magic mostly doesn't work here, at least for humans, or those who've been turned into humans upon being brought here. Only the pokemon themselves retain that sort of power.

Also, "fairy" in this case is a specific classification used for certain types of pokemon and skills. It doesn't have anything to do with the Gentry themselves or the stories based on them.

I'd have to move to get the book. What are Gentry? Is that what your world calls fairies? Wait, the way you said it...are fairies real on your world?

There are a few outlying cases where people retain a low level of power - I still retain some of my ability to communicate with pokemon regardless of their typing - and it's possible to learn to communicate directly with or via Psychic pokemon, but for the most part, pokemon are the ones here with the power, and anyone who's brought here from outside becomes a baseline human if they weren't already. We don't even retain weaponry; it's expected that people rely on their pokemon if they run into trouble.

There are a lot of different classifications, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. They're definitely something you're going to want to study once Tritz is feeling more accommodating. [And here, he gives her a glimpse of the Leafeon, Jolteon, and Glaceon currently aggressively napping on the Eeveelution quilt he got for Christmas, because like hell do they let him use it. They barely even let each other use it.] It's not uncommon to get into battles with wild pokemon between or even in the towns, and then there's the gym system.

The Gentry are... fairies, yes. They're real on my world, but most people are not very aware of them as such. Fortunately.

Fairy magic is kinda based on the ability your Pokemon has, which honest varies depending on type and species.

There’s lots. Eighteen in total. Sometimes a Pokemon can have two types.

Nadia here is both a Psychic and a Fairy type, for instance.

It feels strange to say it's good to see you, when I feel like it hasn't been that long since last I DID see you, but it is good to see you nonetheless. How long have you been here? I've only just arrived, really, I haven't made any real decisions yet, I think. I was supposed to read up on my training guide, but...

It does feel like it hasn't been that long since we saw each other. I haven't been here for long just a month and a few weeks? But it hasn't been that bad I've enjoyed it. It's different that our friends here will be doing the battling instead of us, though we can make sure they don't get hurt that much. Oh yeah take your time! There are different things you can do that it's great to choose from.

[It surprised him how many choices they could have while staying here.]

[Well, Annette's appearance on the Gear certainly explains a few things. Namely, why Felix and Claude have gotten so excited. Felix especially, with how he's spoken about her music.]

[Although... this brings up the same question he asked himself of Ashe. What does Annette remember of him? What was the last thing she saw of him? It's an answer he always feels uneasy about receiving, but forces himself to respond regardless.]

[At least he's looking better than he used to. The bags under his eyes aren't nearly as intense - mostly gone, even. His hair has been brushed, and he's wearing something that isn't plate armor.]

[But he is clearly tentative as he speaks up.]

I have heard that Lysithea may be around that area, or in the town a three days journey from there. Perhaps you both will be able to keep one another company.
