Day at the races!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Moo Moo Farms
When: Saturday, March 20th
Summary:

The day is as lovely as you can expect any early spring day to be. You'll need a coat, yes, and there is a bit of a breeze, but the sun shines happily onto the wooden buildings that make up the Moo Moo Farms where we have all gathered today.

The various farm workers have worked hard to make their farm presentable to the public. Cheerful banners hang between the various sheds, stables and barns, which all have been given a bit of a cleaning (and perhaps a new coat of paint here and there). Of course, it is still a farm, so perhaps don't wear your very best shoes, but as far as farms go, it's been made as neat as can be.

And while the main draws of the day may be releasing the Miltank herd out onto the pasture again after a long winter inside -- whimsically called 'Cow Ballet' on the info sign -- and the Great Tauros Race, Moo Moo Farms has set up various little events and booths to entertain their guests, and perhaps teach them a thing or two about farm life.

A large information sign stands at the gate to the farm, letting visitors know what sort of events are taking place, as well as where and when these are happening. The two big ones -- the Miltank Ballet and the Tauros Race -- are spaced in such a way that people can easily attend both, and most of the other little events are available throughout the entire day.

The Miltank Ballet will be taking place at 1PM over by the big barn. There is little you can do to participate in this (unless you are a cow?), but if you want to watch some ecstatic Miltank dance through the mud and grass after a long winter inside, you should definitely come check this out.

The Tauros Race will start at 4PM (sign ups close at 3PM) and anyone who wants to help give the Tauros a good round of exercise is encouraged and welcome to sign up. There is, according to the sign, a small mystery prize to be won, but surely we are all here because we want to help some cooped up Tauros, right?

In addition to those two big events, two paddocks have been made ready where visitors can test themselves against a Bucking Bronco -- that's his name, Bronco the Bouffalant -- to see how long they can last in the saddle. Due to safety concerns, participants for this event will need to be 16+. For the children, there is a separate rodeo in which they can ride Vaquero the Dubwool, who, for all his seemingly wild behaviour, is actually a very well trained Dubwool who'll make sure no harm comes to the kids.

Of course, while people are free to bring their own food, the Moo Moo Farms have also set up a wide variety of booths where people can buy anything from fresh Moo Moo Milk and milkshakes to freshly made cheese and bread, and oh, is that apple pie? That most certainly is apple pie, as well as various other homey pastries. And as the day goes on, and people might start craving something a little less sweet and more filling, a booth opens up selling various curries. Don't worry, there won't be any Snorlax you need to share with this time!

And for anyone who has found themselves wanting and craving a bovine of their own after all these cute sights, you are in luck! Amidst the various booths, there is also one run by two cheery farm girls, advertising a sale on eggs! All the eggs that are normally available from the Moo Moo Farms can be bought at a whopping 50% discount. Mind that this is only on the purchase price of the egg itself. The price for any additional egg-moves remains the same.

There are also some other, smaller things set up, such a station where you can learn about milking a Miltank and a barrel where you can bob for apples, and even a horseshoe toss game. Most of these are definitely aimed towards teaching and entertaining little kids, but nobody will stop you if you decide to muscle past a row of Youngsters to claim the apple bobbing barrel.

I don't see why not?

[He has a hunch he's going to be called Leo whether he agrees or not. And the milkshake, to her credit, does look pretty good. He gives it a little wobble to see how thick it is and then--

BAP

That is the sound a Milcery makes when jumping through a straw, causing the person holding a milkshake to accidentally drop it. Leonardo, for his part, is a little bit baffled at what has just happened, and also why there is a sentient blob of cream floating around-- oh! Oh, it's a Pokemon!]

I see you've made a new friend.

[All in all, Leonardo seems to be taking this in stride, smiling.]

[Morgan and the Milcery giggle in tandem at his bafflement, although a moment later Morgan feels bad that she made him drop the milkshake and he didn't get to taste it. She holds out her own to make amends.]

Yeah! This is a Milcery, according to the magic box. I decided just now that her name is Shake. But here, I really did mean it when I said you should try it. It's tasty!

[Shake does a slow sort of cartwheel in the air, which is probably an indication that she likes this name. Or else it's an indication that she's bored, who knows? Not Morgan.]

I also brought...cheese, and a different kind of cheese, and some bread and some pastries and a few slices of pie. Eat up! You have to maintain your strength for your drawing arm.

[Hey, this milkshake's pretty good! Cold, too. He'll keep sipping it as he chats, his Smeargle currently drawing a circle around Morgan. Why circles? He just likes them, that's all.]

A fair point. But don't you have to maintain strength for your... I don't know, throwing arm? Go on, sit and eat with me. The bench is nice and warm.

[You know what tastes really great with a milkshake? Pie. Definitely pie.]
disownedbytime: (bashful gosh!)

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-23 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
My throwing arm? What should I be throwing? I could throw Troy, maybe...

[The Mimikyu on her head makes a little whining noise of protest. She laughs, and then looks down to watch Maestro paint this circle. Once it's finished, she just...stands there.]

I would, but now I'm trapped inside this circle! Oh woe is me, I shall have to stand here for eternity. Or until I die, at least. I don't think I'm immortal? Though I guess you never know!

[She crouches inside the circle and reaches out to snag a wedge of cheese before she stands up again to munch on it. Still inside the circle.]

I've been told that throwing pokeballs is the usual method for gaining more companions.

[Not that he particularly cares what's usual. His Hoothoot is currently residing in one of those pokeballs, though, since it's still early in the day and she's sound asleep.]

Oh no, how terrible. I suppose this means that you won't be able to have any of these tasty pastries over here.
disownedbytime: (wanna see my new prank?)

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh, right. I read about that. I didn't need a pokeball for Shake, though. She just plopped right into the milkshake cup! Sploosh.

[She demonstrates with her hands.]

Oof, tempting me with pastries? You're too cruel, Leo. Fortunately, I am the daughter of the greatest tactician in the world! Watch as I cleverly defeat Maestro's dastardly plan to hoard all the pastries.

[She crouches down again, but this time it's to grab a handful of painted grass and uproot it with a flourish, thus breaking the paint circle. She steps out and takes in a huge breath through her nose, as though she hasn't tasted fresh air in a year.]

Ahhh, free at last! Now gimme one of those cinnamon rolls.

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-24 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, I see. A match made in milkshake heaven.

[He dutifully gives her a round of applause for her cunning escape. Such skill! Such technique!

And, of course, here's a cinnamon roll.]

[She takes a bow with a flourish, and also the cinnamon roll. Then she sits down, cheese in one hand, pastry in the other, and begins to eat them, alternating taking bites of one and then the other.]

It must have been destiny. Speaking of destiny, where are we going after this?

[He hums around the milkshake, thinking about it.]

The Bucking Bronco looks entertaining. [Lots of pictures he could draw of bodies flying through the air.]
disownedbytime: (looking toward the future!)

leonardo pls why are you like this XD

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-26 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, silly! Well, I mean, yes it does, and I'm definitely going to try riding it so I can fly through the air and smack my head on something to see if my memories come back. But, what I meant was, after this cow party is over! Where to then, journey buddy?
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-26 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, yes. [That whole adventure thing, he remembers now.]

According to the map, the next town past Cherrygrove is one called Violet, so perhaps we should head there? And find some interesting pokemon along the way, of course.

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-26 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds great! I have to catch a whole bunch of them so I can start magically producing eggs. Speaking of which, check this out!

[She opens her bag and reaches in to pull out, indeed, a Pokemon egg.]

I bought this over there from those nice girls! When it hatches, it's supposed to be some kind of dog. Who doesn't love dogs?
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-26 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oooo!]

Really? How long does it take to hatch?
disownedbytime: (I slay me)

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-26 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno! I'll have to do some research. I think if I use the magic box to look up the dog's species and then cross-reference it with the breeding manual Fake Mother gave me, I'll have an answer. But the book said it's usually around two or three weeks, if you take good care of the egg! I'm going to give it a cozy blanket. And maybe a bath? Do eggs need baths?
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-26 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't see how a bath would hurt.

Perhaps I'll purchase one of these eggs myself, and see which methods might work best.
disownedbytime: (good day!)

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-26 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Good idea! Maybe I'll try sitting on it. That's what birds do, right?

[Morgan, please don't...]
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-26 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't recommend it. You'd have to sit there for days.

[Morgan, no.]
disownedbytime: (the most shamelessly self-driven)

[personal profile] disownedbytime 2021-03-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that would put a crimp in the traveling plan, huh? Ah well, we'll come up with a strategy that's sure to hatch the very best Pokemon, just you wait! And then you'll paint them, and we can sell eggs and paintings. Maybe you could even paint art on the eggs...
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-26 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Very temporary art, but art nonetheless.
