Day at the races!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Moo Moo Farms
When: Saturday, March 20th
Summary:

The day is as lovely as you can expect any early spring day to be. You'll need a coat, yes, and there is a bit of a breeze, but the sun shines happily onto the wooden buildings that make up the Moo Moo Farms where we have all gathered today.

The various farm workers have worked hard to make their farm presentable to the public. Cheerful banners hang between the various sheds, stables and barns, which all have been given a bit of a cleaning (and perhaps a new coat of paint here and there). Of course, it is still a farm, so perhaps don't wear your very best shoes, but as far as farms go, it's been made as neat as can be.

And while the main draws of the day may be releasing the Miltank herd out onto the pasture again after a long winter inside -- whimsically called 'Cow Ballet' on the info sign -- and the Great Tauros Race, Moo Moo Farms has set up various little events and booths to entertain their guests, and perhaps teach them a thing or two about farm life.

A large information sign stands at the gate to the farm, letting visitors know what sort of events are taking place, as well as where and when these are happening. The two big ones -- the Miltank Ballet and the Tauros Race -- are spaced in such a way that people can easily attend both, and most of the other little events are available throughout the entire day.

The Miltank Ballet will be taking place at 1PM over by the big barn. There is little you can do to participate in this (unless you are a cow?), but if you want to watch some ecstatic Miltank dance through the mud and grass after a long winter inside, you should definitely come check this out.

The Tauros Race will start at 4PM (sign ups close at 3PM) and anyone who wants to help give the Tauros a good round of exercise is encouraged and welcome to sign up. There is, according to the sign, a small mystery prize to be won, but surely we are all here because we want to help some cooped up Tauros, right?

In addition to those two big events, two paddocks have been made ready where visitors can test themselves against a Bucking Bronco -- that's his name, Bronco the Bouffalant -- to see how long they can last in the saddle. Due to safety concerns, participants for this event will need to be 16+. For the children, there is a separate rodeo in which they can ride Vaquero the Dubwool, who, for all his seemingly wild behaviour, is actually a very well trained Dubwool who'll make sure no harm comes to the kids.

Of course, while people are free to bring their own food, the Moo Moo Farms have also set up a wide variety of booths where people can buy anything from fresh Moo Moo Milk and milkshakes to freshly made cheese and bread, and oh, is that apple pie? That most certainly is apple pie, as well as various other homey pastries. And as the day goes on, and people might start craving something a little less sweet and more filling, a booth opens up selling various curries. Don't worry, there won't be any Snorlax you need to share with this time!

And for anyone who has found themselves wanting and craving a bovine of their own after all these cute sights, you are in luck! Amidst the various booths, there is also one run by two cheery farm girls, advertising a sale on eggs! All the eggs that are normally available from the Moo Moo Farms can be bought at a whopping 50% discount. Mind that this is only on the purchase price of the egg itself. The price for any additional egg-moves remains the same.

There are also some other, smaller things set up, such a station where you can learn about milking a Miltank and a barrel where you can bob for apples, and even a horseshoe toss game. Most of these are definitely aimed towards teaching and entertaining little kids, but nobody will stop you if you decide to muscle past a row of Youngsters to claim the apple bobbing barrel.

Doppio opens his mouth. Then he closes it, his face contorted into an odd mixture between a pout, a frown and a glare. You can practically see him holding back a shout.

"... We're gonna talk next time we're both on the field," he finally manages to let out in a furious whisper.

Actually, if he gets promoted in the meantime, even better. Sassed by a kid several years his junior and potentially lower on the ladder than him? Doppio may not be the most imposing, but he can't just let that slide!

Okay. So, even Steve can't misinterpret that look. What did he ever do to deserve this? They've barely event talked. He looks around, as though there might somehow be some other Rocket behind him that this anger's directed at. Not seeing anyone who fits the bill, Steve settles for squinting at him in confusion.

"Uh, okay..." he replies, not getting it. "Why?"

He's guessing from his expression he isn't looking for pointers.

He doesn't even know? Or is he just playing dumb?!

"Because... Because I deserve a little respect, that's all!"

Okay, yeah, he said they'd talk later, but now it's a matter of pride!

Here's a good rule of thumb: Steve never plays dumb. Unfortunately he's just like this. He squints, clearly starting to get irritated by this point.

"Do you?" Steve draws himself up to his full height. He's always been tall, but by now he's over 6' and broad to boot. "I guess I missed the memo. Aren't you kind of new still?"

Yeah, that's the unfortunate thing. Not only does Doppio look younger than he is - younger than he thinks he is, even - he's also not the tallest. Or the most imposing, in fact. He very much has to look up when Steve rises to his full height.

If he weren't already worked up, he'd probably lose his nerve and withdraw right around now. As it stands, he has a little more fight in him.

"S... So what? You're just a brat!"

By now Steve should probably have learned that looks can be deceiving. Unfortunately he's very much working under the assumption he can take Doppio on easily. Just to whose detriment that will be remains to be seen, but he's definitely not concerned that this guy's talking back. Just annoyed.

"I'm not a brat!" Although he sure does sound like it. His tone is shrill and indignant, his fists bunched up by his sides. "You're the one coming up to me and picking fights for no reason."

Yeah. Definitely no reason.

"You tried to boss me around!" And only one person gets to do that, of course.

He won't mention when that happened; he is still trying to be discreet, despite the circumstances.

"Even though you're just some kid who wouldn't know a capo from a foot soldier!"

... He can only contain himself so much, though.

That's what's got him so worked up? Isn't he just a kid himself?

"Aren't you a Gr--" Oh. No. That is not a word he should be using so publicly. There's a flash of panic in his eyes as he glances around to make sure no one clocked on. There are a few people eyeing them, but it mostly seems to be about rubbernecking a fight than any suspicion of their criminal associations. Still. Steve drops his voice to a harsh whisper. "I've been around longer. I'm a way more powerful trainer. Don't you think you should show me a little respect?"

He's not about to admit he has no idea what a capo is. He doesn't want to undermine himself, especially right now.

In the millisecond before Steve stops himself, Doppio damn near blows up. Not only is he NOT a Grunt, but this absolute moron is about to blow their cover and the sheer amount of incompetence combined makes him so furious that his eyes flash green--

And then Steve changes his tone, even if only slightly, and Doppio is forced to breathe, and his shoulders slump. The point about Steve being more powerful... is a good one, indeed. Didn't he just become champion...?

(The green recedes into the back of his consciousness, too, content that he does not need to intervene - neither because Doppio is flying off the handle when he shouldn't nor because they're in danger - for now, at least.)

"... Some respect, sure."

In fact, maybe he'll even apologise for getting so angry later. Maybe.

"You've been here longer, but I'm not under you." And that's as specific as he'll get about that. "Besides, I'm an adult."
