Day at the races!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Moo Moo Farms
When: Saturday, March 20th
Summary:

The day is as lovely as you can expect any early spring day to be. You'll need a coat, yes, and there is a bit of a breeze, but the sun shines happily onto the wooden buildings that make up the Moo Moo Farms where we have all gathered today.

The various farm workers have worked hard to make their farm presentable to the public. Cheerful banners hang between the various sheds, stables and barns, which all have been given a bit of a cleaning (and perhaps a new coat of paint here and there). Of course, it is still a farm, so perhaps don't wear your very best shoes, but as far as farms go, it's been made as neat as can be.

And while the main draws of the day may be releasing the Miltank herd out onto the pasture again after a long winter inside -- whimsically called 'Cow Ballet' on the info sign -- and the Great Tauros Race, Moo Moo Farms has set up various little events and booths to entertain their guests, and perhaps teach them a thing or two about farm life.

A large information sign stands at the gate to the farm, letting visitors know what sort of events are taking place, as well as where and when these are happening. The two big ones -- the Miltank Ballet and the Tauros Race -- are spaced in such a way that people can easily attend both, and most of the other little events are available throughout the entire day.

The Miltank Ballet will be taking place at 1PM over by the big barn. There is little you can do to participate in this (unless you are a cow?), but if you want to watch some ecstatic Miltank dance through the mud and grass after a long winter inside, you should definitely come check this out.

The Tauros Race will start at 4PM (sign ups close at 3PM) and anyone who wants to help give the Tauros a good round of exercise is encouraged and welcome to sign up. There is, according to the sign, a small mystery prize to be won, but surely we are all here because we want to help some cooped up Tauros, right?

In addition to those two big events, two paddocks have been made ready where visitors can test themselves against a Bucking Bronco -- that's his name, Bronco the Bouffalant -- to see how long they can last in the saddle. Due to safety concerns, participants for this event will need to be 16+. For the children, there is a separate rodeo in which they can ride Vaquero the Dubwool, who, for all his seemingly wild behaviour, is actually a very well trained Dubwool who'll make sure no harm comes to the kids.

Of course, while people are free to bring their own food, the Moo Moo Farms have also set up a wide variety of booths where people can buy anything from fresh Moo Moo Milk and milkshakes to freshly made cheese and bread, and oh, is that apple pie? That most certainly is apple pie, as well as various other homey pastries. And as the day goes on, and people might start craving something a little less sweet and more filling, a booth opens up selling various curries. Don't worry, there won't be any Snorlax you need to share with this time!

And for anyone who has found themselves wanting and craving a bovine of their own after all these cute sights, you are in luck! Amidst the various booths, there is also one run by two cheery farm girls, advertising a sale on eggs! All the eggs that are normally available from the Moo Moo Farms can be bought at a whopping 50% discount. Mind that this is only on the purchase price of the egg itself. The price for any additional egg-moves remains the same.

There are also some other, smaller things set up, such a station where you can learn about milking a Miltank and a barrel where you can bob for apples, and even a horseshoe toss game. Most of these are definitely aimed towards teaching and entertaining little kids, but nobody will stop you if you decide to muscle past a row of Youngsters to claim the apple bobbing barrel.

Ink smudges! Now that- [He points at the air as an emphasizing gesture.] -is a plight I can sympathize with. Now don't take me wrong, those "pens" they have in this realm? Amazing tools they are, at least for quick note-taking! But they are unsuitable for proper caligraphy.

[And his poetry must look as good as it sounds, alright! At the question, he nods and bows with as much flourish as possible.]

Jaskier the bard, graduated in the Liberal Arts at Oxenfurt University, at your service! And this lovely lady here-- [He buries his hand in her fluff, making her chirp in delight.] -is Cotton, who happens to have a charming voice as well.

Just like the paint I have found in the stores. Very handy, but the colors are too bright, and I'd much rather use my own little tricks to mix the paint as I like it.

[Leonardo, it turns out, has his own little tricks for just about everything. He accepts the introductions, and while nowhere near as flourishing, does his own little bow of indication when he introduces himself.]

Ah, so you are a singer by trade? Music is much more difficult than it seems, so I'm sure you must be very skilled, especially if you attended schooling for it.

[Leonardo then realizes he forgot to introduce himself, and does so now.]

Oh, and I am Leonardo, from Vinci.

[If this had been modern-au!Jaskier, he would be having a fanboy moment right now. But alas...]

Well met, Leonardo. [He replies with a nod while Cotton chirps her hello.] My skills are known throughout the whole continent, for many a king and lord I have performed. That said, is there such a thing as a not difficult art discipline? [A wave of his hand. All art takes work, if you ask him.] I take it you're self-taught, then?

[Since he commented on Jaskier's schooling...]

I learned from a man named Verrocchio. [His smile turns a little bit wistful.] He was very kind, very skilled. [And now, a little bit sly.] And a much better sculptor than I am, truth be told. [He isn't so good at seeing the potential resting in the work, waiting to be revealed.]

And while I have had many noble patrons where I am from, I admit I am glad that this is not the case here. It is nice, getting to create art only because I enjoy it, and not so that I may earn my pay.

[Leonardo's smile turns a bit sly and Jaskier expects some juicy gossip incoming. Sadly that is not the case, but he isn't complaining: hearing artists talk fondly of their masters is always a delightful thing.]

Ah, but are you truly interested in sculpting? It seems to me that you feel at home with your sketching, and you have nothing to be jealous of in that area.

[At the mention of creating art to noble's whims, though, he pulls a face. The mere idea of having to create things he doesn't enjoy is horrifying to say the least.]

Writing about subjects designated by assigments instead of choosing my heart's desires is one of the things I do not miss about student life - torture! That's what it was, pure torture for the muse in your very soul! Indeed, this place is an utopia for a variety of reasons, including art itself. Have you read any of the local novels? There's no subject too taboo to publish!

No, I haven't had a chance to do any reading since I've arrived. [He's been rather busy sketching any pokemon that crosses his path.] What sort of books would you recommend? I imagine there's many different varieties.

[After all, since there's no subject too taboo to be published, that means the shelves must be overflowing with material.]

Besides mine? [A wink.] Oh, where to begin! This realm's literature is so rich and vast! What is your genre of preference, Leonardo? Jules Vernipede has been a wonder when it comes to exploring and adventures! I do not read horror myself, but I've heard wonderful things about Stephen Kingler! And the romance! As sweet or as forbidden and erotic as you want them to be! Jynx Austen writes delightful witty dialogue, and anything under the Blacephalon publishers promises to awake desire in even the most frigid of readers!

[He swears this is the good stuff, alright? He doesn't read Chuck Timburr at least!]

I sometimes read... I think they are called romances, about knights and daring rescues of various imperiled maidens. Most of them have very tragic endings, where the knight dies or loses their kingdom or, often, both at the same time, but the poetry is often very nice along the way.

A romance with a tragic ending is, if you excuse my redundancy, a tragedy! If it's poetry about knights, princesses and monster hunters you seek, then allow me to recommend my own books again! Two volumes and a little over twenty years of hard work. But if you want your stories to be a whole novel to devour, then the Grimmsnarl Brothers will be your friends.
