Day at the races!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Moo Moo Farms
When: Saturday, March 20th
Summary:

The day is as lovely as you can expect any early spring day to be. You'll need a coat, yes, and there is a bit of a breeze, but the sun shines happily onto the wooden buildings that make up the Moo Moo Farms where we have all gathered today.

The various farm workers have worked hard to make their farm presentable to the public. Cheerful banners hang between the various sheds, stables and barns, which all have been given a bit of a cleaning (and perhaps a new coat of paint here and there). Of course, it is still a farm, so perhaps don't wear your very best shoes, but as far as farms go, it's been made as neat as can be.

And while the main draws of the day may be releasing the Miltank herd out onto the pasture again after a long winter inside -- whimsically called 'Cow Ballet' on the info sign -- and the Great Tauros Race, Moo Moo Farms has set up various little events and booths to entertain their guests, and perhaps teach them a thing or two about farm life.

A large information sign stands at the gate to the farm, letting visitors know what sort of events are taking place, as well as where and when these are happening. The two big ones -- the Miltank Ballet and the Tauros Race -- are spaced in such a way that people can easily attend both, and most of the other little events are available throughout the entire day.

The Miltank Ballet will be taking place at 1PM over by the big barn. There is little you can do to participate in this (unless you are a cow?), but if you want to watch some ecstatic Miltank dance through the mud and grass after a long winter inside, you should definitely come check this out.

The Tauros Race will start at 4PM (sign ups close at 3PM) and anyone who wants to help give the Tauros a good round of exercise is encouraged and welcome to sign up. There is, according to the sign, a small mystery prize to be won, but surely we are all here because we want to help some cooped up Tauros, right?

In addition to those two big events, two paddocks have been made ready where visitors can test themselves against a Bucking Bronco -- that's his name, Bronco the Bouffalant -- to see how long they can last in the saddle. Due to safety concerns, participants for this event will need to be 16+. For the children, there is a separate rodeo in which they can ride Vaquero the Dubwool, who, for all his seemingly wild behaviour, is actually a very well trained Dubwool who'll make sure no harm comes to the kids.

Of course, while people are free to bring their own food, the Moo Moo Farms have also set up a wide variety of booths where people can buy anything from fresh Moo Moo Milk and milkshakes to freshly made cheese and bread, and oh, is that apple pie? That most certainly is apple pie, as well as various other homey pastries. And as the day goes on, and people might start craving something a little less sweet and more filling, a booth opens up selling various curries. Don't worry, there won't be any Snorlax you need to share with this time!

And for anyone who has found themselves wanting and craving a bovine of their own after all these cute sights, you are in luck! Amidst the various booths, there is also one run by two cheery farm girls, advertising a sale on eggs! All the eggs that are normally available from the Moo Moo Farms can be bought at a whopping 50% discount. Mind that this is only on the purchase price of the egg itself. The price for any additional egg-moves remains the same.

There are also some other, smaller things set up, such a station where you can learn about milking a Miltank and a barrel where you can bob for apples, and even a horseshoe toss game. Most of these are definitely aimed towards teaching and entertaining little kids, but nobody will stop you if you decide to muscle past a row of Youngsters to claim the apple bobbing barrel.

"Oh man, really? Yeah, uh-- advice from someone with more experience would be very appreciated."

...Hang on, give him a moment to take that in. He raises his eyebrows slowly. "Is that a matter of, uh... what I guess would be considered standard teen joyride stuff, or is there a story there?"
shiro2hero: (launch me out the airlock)

Shiro just exhales. This is a very tired expression. A long-suffering expression.

"It's... a long story. Gist of it was - he figured he had no future anyway, so may as well." A shake of his head. "I was recruiting pilot candidates at his school - his teachers weren't going to let him into the program with his disciplinary record. So... he stole my car."

The very bare bones of the story there.
woofdad: (but that's none of my business)

[personal profile] woofdad 2021-05-03 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"...Wow."

Yeah.

"I mean... I guess as motives for a teenager to commit grand theft auto go, 'screw it' is a pretty obvious one, huh."
shiro2hero: (incoming dad jokes hold on)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2021-05-04 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah."

Just. Yeah.

"He... did end up giving it back, so. I can't really complain."
woofdad: (but that's none of my business)

[personal profile] woofdad 2021-05-15 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I... guess so." Grant wonders, briefly, if he would feel like he couldn't complain if Chip stole his car but then returned it, and... okay, yeah, he guesses he could see that happening. "I take it nobody was hurt, at least?"
shiro2hero: (shit i can't believe that worked)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2021-05-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, no one was hurt."

Which probably helped Keith's case, in the end. No one was hurt, no one was even that inconvenienced.

"He's a great driver, surprisingly. And pilot."
woofdad: nobody could imagine you actually are a werewolf (see the trick is to be so obvious)

[personal profile] woofdad 2021-06-06 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Good... good to hear. Both of those!"

Sure, the relief of nobody being hurt by a teen car theft is a slightly different kind of "good to hear" than just... hearing the kid's a good driver (and pilot), but it does still apply in both cases.

"I... would say something about it making sense that he could drive if he's a pilot, but I'm guessing there's... actually very little overlap in the, uh, mechanics there."
shiro2hero: (HAHA dad jokes are great)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2021-06-06 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
He can't help it. He laughs. His whole face suddenly lighter, suddenly actually looking like the young man he is, eyes brighter.

"I get you." He's this close to clasping Grant on the shoulder. "And yeah, apparently? Good drivers aren't automatically good pilots. Or uh. Vice versa."
woofdad: <user name=bedsafely site=tumblr.com> (i mean i'm not complaining)

[personal profile] woofdad 2021-06-07 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh no. No, this cannot keep happening, it's not fair dammit. Grant's expression brightens a little further in turn with Shiro's, that faint flush rising in his cheeks again. How is he just like this.

"--Ha, yeah! Yeah, that... makes sense. My first thought was that piloting... anything sounds more complicated, since there's more-- uh, dimensions to keep track of? But, right, it makes sense, they're... they're totally different."

That was so many more words than he had to say.
shiro2hero: (time for the charm bomb to explode)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2021-06-08 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
We're sorry, Grant. If he knew what he was doing to the poor guy, he'd stop as soon as possible. But this is Shiro. And Shiro has absolutely no clue.

"You're not wrong there." It's said patiently, gently. As much as he would when discussing this with a student. "You've got three dimensions in the air, and what feels like four in space sometimes."

Because of how... vast and empty it all is. You don't have to worry about mountains or gravity out there.
woofdad: nobody could imagine you actually are a werewolf (see the trick is to be so obvious)

[personal profile] woofdad 2021-06-19 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
See, the problem with that is what Shiro is doing is... being Shiro. The only way Grant could think of that Shiro could stop affecting him like this would be if Shiro backed off from interacting with him entirely, which... he doesn't want to happen! At all!

So he'll just keep hoping that this eventually stops on its own, and... well, if that doesn't happen, he'll just keep toughing it out.

"Man... I can only imagine. There's the whole thing about how... when there's no gravity, every direction feels like 'up', right?"
shiro2hero: (HAHA dad jokes are great)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2021-06-19 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's not going to happen. Shiro not being like this would only happen if he were an evil clone of himself - which totally wouldn't happen, right? That's absurd.

So, for now, it's just time for a nice conversation with a fellow parent figure. Who's extremely pleasant. Easy to talk to. It's nice.

"Hah, yeah, that's definitely part of it. Sometimes, you get artificial gravity, and then? Up is just whichever way your ship is angled."
