Is it okay to name your Pokemon after people you know?

Or...what I mean is, do you think they would mind, if they knew?

Yeah I wouldn't. think of it like tattoo rules. no names but the dead and your children or someone who cant disappoint you or call you an overly attached weirdo

I've named plenty of Pokémon after loved ones, and all who have met their namesake have yet to complain about it. It's nice way of honoring someone for whom you care.

[Or someone you once fought but still respect.]

Of course, you might not get the same reaction if the Pokémon in question is a Grimer or a Trubbish.

[Legosi is going to stick with responding via text slowly for now, hopefully that's okay. He's trying to get to the next town and it's been a very slow process so far.]

Honoring them...I am glad to hear they felt that way. That is what I had in mind.

What Pokemon are those?

Grimer is a pile of toxic sludge, while Trubbish is a sentient bag of trash. Individuals members of those species can be absolute sweethearts that remind you of loved ones, of course, but it would still be difficult to explain that particular choice of name.

[There must be someone out there who would be happy to share their name with a Grimer, but Cecil sincerely hopes to never meet that person.]

if it's not mean spirited it's probably fine. unless they suck, then mean spirited is a-okay

I have no intention of being mean spirited. I wouldn't name them after anyone I didn't like, either.

probably smart. i've got a meowth named after someone i don't like and it's still weird. i mean, i didn't name him that, but now he won't answer to anything else and it's a whole thing

As for whether or not the person would mind, that probably depends on the individual

And maybe on the Pokemon

I guess I might be sort of insulted if someone named like a Trubbish or something after me

Mm, it's a common practice, from what I've observed. Familiar people, foods, and puns.

I struggle to come up with appropriate names myself.

So far, I have been asking them if they like the names I suggest...and if they do, that is what we go with. It doesn't matter all that much /what/ they are, to them at least.

I think it's okay, but I've never had someone from my world show up here... But I think they'd say that that's just something Kazuki would do and let it go pretty quick.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has done this. I didn't want to seem strange. My intentions are good, if anything...I would not be naming these Pokemon after who they are inspired by if they did not remind me of them in some way.
