Kiri's Hatchday Party!
Who: Everyone! This is a mingle! Come have fun with us, even if you don't know anyone!
Where: The vineyards in Violet City.
When: May 4thbe with you.
Summary: Kiri is having her first hatchday party ever.
Rating: theoretically PG but lbh the f-word will probably be used so let's say PG-13.
[Network post - May 3d - Open invitation!]
[Kiri posts this on the network and sends similarly worded invitations individually to people she knows. Either way, it goes something like this:]
Party party party party!
[She's in her more usual feathered costume wings and headband, but has added the prom-capelet of gold and white feathers to it, and jumping up and down with all her might. Most of this is a mimicry of Jaskier, but there are a few bits of other people in there too.]
Kiri hatched five years! Birthday party! Try cake and birds and presents! Presents!
Come to Violet May fourth. Party all together! Corviknight can fly!
[She turns the camera to point at her Corviknights, plural, who each take off, snag an ordinary chair in their talons, circle, and come back to land. The pillows loosely strapped into the chairs mostly don't fall out. They've been practicing. It's... probably safe.]
[Action - May 4th - it's her BIRBday, get it]
Welcome to the Violet vineyards! It's not rare for travelers to be familiar with this place already - the monks are always looking for an extra hand to help them, after all. It's a good way to make money at the beginning of your journey. What many people don't know, however, is that they also offer tours and even rent some green spaces for picnics! Now, just because they've borrowed this space it doesn't mean the vineyards have stopped being a place to be respected. So decorations have only been put up on small area in order not to disturb the actual grapevines: on a picnic blanket, there is a low table surrounded by cushions and at the head of it, a small tent for the birthday girl - Kiri's very own nest. There are a couple of balloons tied to said tent, but the main decorations are flowers and... feathers. So. Many. Feathers.
Be ready, dear attendant, because this party definitely has a theme.
A. Food and Drinks
While in Galar, do as Galarians do: there's wine available for all adults, be white, red or rosé. Don't worry, we have juice of all flavors for kids as well! To eat, what better for a picnic than finger food? Mini sandwiches, Tepig-in-a-blanket, chips and dips, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, mini pizzas, you get the idea! The theme of the party shines here too: the rice balls are decorated as Torchic heads, the cheesy pizzas are Rowlet, the buns are shaped as Hoothoot, and when the time for Kiri to blow the candles comes, well... isn't it the most magnificent cake you've ever seen?
B. Bird Watching and Catching
There's a reason why Violet is the home to Falkner's gym and Kiri's favorite place: it's crowded with birds of all kinds. So grab a pair of binoculars (provided by the party, no worries), get yourself comfortable and see what you can find! A rare and very interesting feather pattern? A particularly small Pidgeotto? Perhaps Kiri has finally taught you the real power of birds and you want one of your own! Go on, time to throw some Pokéballs!
C. Song and Dances
This party has been organized by Jaskier, so it's his duty to perform! With his ukulele on hand and his four Oricorio (one in each form) dancing around him, the bard will sing all kinds of upbeat jigs everyone can dance to! Don't have a partner? That two-legged Pokémon of yours is also welcome on the dance "floor". Don't be shy, nobody is going to judge your dance moves. Alright, Jaskier may. Just a little bit. But it's not like he'll be passing that judgment aloud.
Jaskier isn't alone in the performing! Kiri will get up and sing and dance with him too, with her own Oricorio! She'll primarily be mimicking Jaskier's voice, but sometimes her own will peak through. And then she shouts 'aerial show!' and her birds take to the sky in a choreographed performance. They aren't as polished as Falkner's birds and some parts are more like a mid-air battle than anything else, but Kiri and her birds are very, very proud of themselves when it's done.
D. Bird Races
Oh yes, you read right: we're racing. Hopefully you've brought your own bird or are catching one right now, because this is a competition you can't miss! There are two different kinds of races: the first one is Kiri's favorite, which includes the trainer flying on their bird - just like a horse race but with feathers. But if your bird is too small or you don't have Fly yet, bird vs bird with no trainer is the second race category! Think you can beat Falkner's number one fan and former bird herself? Let's find out~!
E. Games
Kiri likes them - a lot. And you're never too old for them! Tag, hide and seek, blind man's bluff, etc; Pokémon and human alike are invited to join! And you're welcome to add your little twist to these games by using your companions! Maybe your Stoutland's nose can help you find the hidden players? It's not cheating, it's... being creative.
Kiri would especially like to play flying tag. Don't worry. It'll probably be fine. Hopefully.
F. Presents!
During the rest of the party, Kiri's Pokemon, with each other, or maybe even one of somebody else's, have been disappearing briefly and coming back with eggs to place on a blanket that Kiri has been insistent that no one touch. Now that the food and games are done, Kiri stands up, cheerfully yells, "Presents!" and grabs an armful of something.
She will proceed to give everybody several hand-picked feathers from her ever-growing collection! Those that she knows personally will get their feathers pre-crafted into a necklace or bracelet or other simple piece of decoration. She'll also point everyone at the pile of eggs and encourage everyone to take one with them! She heard there were presents, so she's making sure everyone gets one! She's also just five, so feathers and Pokemon eggs. It's the thought that counts.
((OOC: Kiri is trying to give every attendee an egg! Rather than pick pairs and roll up eggs in advance, just drop me a note about a species you'd like and I'll do my best to get it to you! Also opening up chances for temporary 'borrowing' to take advantage of Breeder perks if you'd like one of your characters' Pokemon to get it on with one of Kiri's for possible shiny or HA.))
G. Wildcard
Obligatory free space! Mingle around, chitchat, ask why the five-year-old has a knife, the sky is your limit! Just make sure not to break anything or the monks will kick us out by hitting us with their brooms. But we're sure such an outstanding citizen such as yourself knows how to behave! Oh Arceus, we're getting kicked out, aren't we.

I'm sorry, Kiri. I didn't know your birthday was tomorrow or I'd have waited to leave for Victory Road so I could go to your party. But we're going to send you a present, okay? There's some really strong birds out here and I know we can find you a breeding pair of something good.

Wow, thanks for the invite! [ What are he and the guys even doing on May 4th? Suddenly it seems a lot less important! ] What d'you want for your birthday, Kiri?
Ah- I'm Kirishima, by the way!
generalized party attendence
Party business taken care of, he then spends a great deal of time bird watching. He sketches a lot of feathers and a lot of simple flying shapes, little notes written backwards lefthanded in the corners, naming the birds and what he has seen. His pokemon cannot fly him, alas, but Acuta wants to show off her speed and agility, so she will join the bird race with a great deal of determination.
His other birds, Piccolo and Piuma, both Pidoves, and Appuntito, a Fearow, circle around the party on their own, his Noctowl unfortunately too nocturnal to attend.

"It is good to see you, Leonardo!" Another insistent pull that convinces Gwin to keep moving. "Are birds a particularly interesting subject to sketch for you?"
no subject
"Yes, they are." He spreads his arms as he speaks, as if they were wings of his own. "I've been fascinated by the flight of birds since I was a child." From small songbirds that he's seen in the market to the hawks he's seen dive after their prey. "I believe there must be a way for man to fly. Or at least, I believed this before I arrived here and saw the proof firsthand." Those metal planes that pass, every now and then, with a rumble of their engines as they go.

Dimitri - ota
Arriving here for Kiri's birthday party has taken quite a bit out of Dimitri (and any of his other group) since they were already on the road for Mahogany Town and literally just arrived. Still, Dimitri isn't letting that stop him from making sure to be a good guest.
And that means a present! So the second he arrives, Dimitri makes his way over to where Kiri has herself settled as the birthday girl. "Hello, Kiri," he says softly, smiling. Traveling has somehow been helping him get to sleep better; don't ask him why his brain has decided that's a good thing now. "Happy Birthday. I hope you like this."
The box he offers her holds a pretty pale kimono, just oversized enough that she has time to grow into it. It's styled like a Sensu Oricorio, gradient and all. Unfortunately, the entire thing can't be styled out of feathers, although parts of the sleeve seem to mimic it, but there are feathers in the little hair accessory that comes with it.
B - Food
With all the time spent in Johto, Dimitri is now no stranger to the way Pokemon are such an integral part of the country, in every way possible. He's seen some Pokemon shaped candy and the like, plus them on advertising... But he's never quite seen cheese pizza like this.
Excuse him as he stands there with a Pidgeot looming over his shoulder, eye sparkling. "Oh!" he says aloud, for anyone who might be listening. "Oh, that's so very charming. What Palien is that...?"
Just don't get too distracted by him. Dimitri has also brought along the newly evolved Gwin, an Altaria with a long neck and a tendency to find whatever food looks like it will feel good squished in his beak. He will steal things, now that he has an actual neck.
C - Dance Party
After the shitshow that was prom, Dimitri.... Well, Dimitri still doesn't really like dancing. However, he likes obliging people he likes... Or, in this case, cows.
For anyone hanging around the dance area, they will find Dimitri coming along with a little Miltank holding onto his hand. "Would you like to dance?" he asks.
D - Games and Racing
Normally, Dimiti uses his Pidgeot, Elshot, when it comes to flying. This is mostly because, well, he only had Elshot who could do it. However, as a grown and freshly evolved Altaria, Gwin is now technically big enough to do it. Dimitri figures that having fun at a party is a good, safe way to test out just how suitable Gwin is for this sort of thing.
The answer: no.
In the middle of some of the games, or right before the race starts, Dimitri can be found half emerged from all the cloud that makes up an Altaria, clinging to the bird who is just.... waddling around wherever he wants.
"Gwin! Gwin, stop. Gwin, not that way- not the grapevines, Gwin!"
D for "don't worry she's a professional"
"Don't worry, Dimitri! We'll save you!"
Morgan runs and vaults over the low wooden fence separating them from the trellises, ducking out of sight among the vines. She pulls Troy the Mimikyu down from his usual perch atop her head and puts a finger over her lips--shhh!
Together, they hurry quietly to hide behind the vines closest to where the huge cloud is rampaging, and Morgan whispers, "Okay, Troy, time to jump scare that cloud into stopping in its tracks. Astonish it!"
So Gwin the Altaria and Dimitri the human will both have a front-row seat to this popping up suddenly out of the grapevines with a spooky Kyuuuuu...
Practically guaranteed to make the cloud bird freeze in place and de-escalate the situation, right? Morgan peeks out from behind the trellis to watch their reactions.
D is for Doubt
However, he opts to show this surprise by just... suddenly flapping into the air, wings going at the speed of cloud as he gets airborn. Dimitri wobbles in place, warms around the Altaria's neck. "Ah! Gwin, calm down- what was that?" Dimitri does his best to peer past cloud and that long ass neck both, befuddled.
D
At first, Jaskier watches the waddling from afar with a lot of amusement, but suddenly Gwin takes a turn towards the grapevines, and that equals trouble (but not even the fun kind of trouble). As soon as Jaskier mumbles a bollocks, Cotton leaves the race behind and goes after them. Usually she's a well-behaved lady, but she's been worried about her brother since he's started to... whatever his method of flying is called.
Approaching them from above, Cotton stops in front of Gwin to stop him from going farther into the grapevines and talks to him in her own language. Of course humans can't understand what she's saying, but the tone of her chirping suspiciously sounds like dishonor on you and dishonor on the family!
"An over-enthusiastic fellow, isn't he?" Jaskier asks as he watches Gwin's face for his reaction. "Are you alright, Dimitri?"

Yuzu Hiiragi - OTA
(2) Food and Drinks Mingle
[ Well, Yuzu had certainly appreciated getting picked up while she was trekking through Route 30. Though she did manage to catch a Starly, she was definitely going to be trekking for the rest of the week. Skipping straight to Violet City was definitely something she had to thank Kiri person for.Still, let's face it, a lot of the people here were strangers... and clearly more used to this whole Pokemon thing. In fact, there are some pretty big ones here just out of their balls. She's usually more sociable than this, but since she's only just started out her "journey" she's opted to instead wallflower by the food and drinks. Please excuse her, though... she might be blocking some of the food as she stares at all the Pokemon here. ]
(3) Bird Races!
[ Did she think that Solo (her Starly, affectionately named) had a good chance of winning? Not really. Everyone here seems to have actually trained their birds, whereas Starly had only just been recently caught. It had a few days of training, at least... but still, while it would be nice to win and satisfy her competitive spirit, she's really only doing this for one reason.
Solo was raring to go. Of course, not only did Yuzu not have Fly yet... Solo was much too small for her anyway. So, into the second category of bird vs. bird without their trainers they goes. In any case, she's watching the race while her Starly sits at the starting line, very confident in itself. ]
(3) Presents!
[ Well, she knew that this was something about hatching, but... she didn't expect to actually get a Pokemon Egg shoved into her hands! Oh, and also the feathers, which she does actually appreciate... or at least, the thought (which is what really counts). ]Um...
[ Still, though... it's an egg. A life in her hands! Of course she's nervous, she doesn't have the first clue how to take care of this thing? In any case, Yuzu looks like she's panicking, standing here with an egg clutched protectively in her arms. ]
2
[This is especially true for a Miltank and Altaria that are toddling around, both of them seeming to follow the other with no particular rhyme or reason for who's leading and who's following at any given time. Trailing behind both of them would be Dimitri, cradling a cup of juice in his hand as he makes sure they don't get into any trouble.]
[When the Miltank spots Yuzu, she makes a low moo, and immediately toddles over with the enormous cloud bird behind. Dimitri speaks around the Altaria's too dang long neck.]
Excuse them - they're just curious about meeting other people.

Happy birthday, Kiri-chan! You're such a big girl now!! Ehehe, a big girl with her big ol' birdies! How nice of you to invite everyone to your party...unless that's a way to get all the presents? [She grins a little bit. Man, she would love to give this cutie some sweets, or maybe a little flower crown. All girls are princesses, and deserve flower crowns.] My name is Ochako, and I have a friend I sometimes call Kiri, too, actually...and another friend who also has a Cor--...Corviknight? Mmh. I bet yours are just as sweet and well behaved.

Action (ota)
A1 (Closed to Kiri)
[Louie's gift to Kiri is an uwrapped Poke Doll that Gold Nugget, his Bunnelby, picked up at some point. He's not entirely sure what the deal is with it, but she's five and it's a doll, so he figures it'll be a hit. Hopefully. He's just got to find her to give it to her!]
A2
[The feathers are a weird party favor, but Louie's definitely interested in the eggs, leaning over them and taking a closer look.]
But how do you know what's what...?
B| Food and Drink
[Louie doesn't recognize every Pokemon the themed food is modeled after, but still, he's got to admit that's charming. It doesn't hurt that they're all based on bird Pokemon. Also, after a week of eating light, he's just happy to have such an array of food!
One might even spot him putting a few of the more travel-friendly food items into his backpack...]
C| Games
[Okay, so if he has to move around, playing a game isn't the worst way to do it. Louie definitely prefers hide and seek over tag- If he's hiding, he can just chill for a bit, and the seeking plays into his skills well enough. Is he finding you, or have you stumbled across him fallen asleep in his hiding place?]

Action | OTA (mostly)
Morgan asked all her Pokemon who wanted to enter the race, and Forseti - the small Ducklett with the Big Pecks - volunteered immediately. She's not nearly large enough to carry Morgan yet, of course, so she'll just race against the other birds.
But of course, there are lots of larger, faster, and more experienced birds among the competition! So what to do? Morgan holds an impromptu strategy huddle with her team and together, they come up with the best plan.
Which is why whoever comes by can find Morgan pouring out cups of coffee for her Ducklett to chug. No, it's not decaf.
F. Presents! (closed to Kiri)
When Morgan arrives, it's with Troy the Mimikyu riding on top of her head and Tantivy the shiny Galarian Farfetch'd strolling by her side with her leek-lance on her shoulder. Morgan's also carrying a Pokemon egg in her arms, as she wanders around looking for the birthday girl.
She grins widely when she finds Kiri. "There you are! Happy birthday, Kiri! Or maybe I should say, happy birdday, hehehe. Here, this is your birthday present!" She hands over the egg, and then motions to the Farfetch'd to come closer.
"And this is Tantivy. She hatched from that egg you gave me, the shiny one! Although I don't know why they call them shiny when they're really not shiny."
The bird extends a wing up to shake Kiri's hand, a little shy.
For Kiri
Happy birthday, my little lady. [He told her that already in the morning, but it always bears repeating! After pulling back, he hands her the drawing.] I hope this gift makes you justice.

Well, Claude had heard this was a birthday party, but he hadn't expected to be getting presents himself! He's a little bemused but quite happy with his
(possibly Rufflet?)egg and feathers. "I'll work these into some kind of jewelry," he promises her with a smile, "so I can wear them. But actually, I bought you presents, too..."And he'll offer a somewhat awkwardly shaped (and thus awkwardly wrapped) present. Once Kiri tears off the wrapping paper - always therapeutic - she'll find a cute little Rowlet bag, that can also pull double duty as a backpack! But even better, when she opens the bag, there are three cute surprises inside!
Listen, Claude heard birds were Kiri's big thing, and he can absolutely play to a theme.
B - Bird Races
Sorry, did you say flying? Did you say racing while flying? Claude was there before you finished saying it. His eyes are practically gleaming; he already loves flying, knows he's good at it, and he gets a thrill out of challenging himself while riding. Honestly, it's going to be hard to control himself, because he feels like going too hard in a race with a five-year-old is probably not the best form...but isn't she natively a bird, from what Jaskier told him? Who knows, maybe she's got some kind of inherent advantage and he shouldn't look down on her...
He's murmuring to himself as he pets the feathers of Arbiter, his massive and imposing Corviknight. "I don't know...is it rude to beat a kid in a race on their birthday? But it might be rude to not fly my best against her, too, depending on if she wants genuine competition...maybe I'd better check with Jaskier."
Feel free to overhear his mumbling, maybe give your two cents. He's clearly torn.
C - Wildcard
Claude's wandering the party with every evidence of enjoyment, in the company of his pokémon - most of them birds, to fit the theme of the day. However, he does have two very obvious non-birds in his roster. One is a very small, freshly hatched Amaura who is surveying everything with uncharacteristic seriousness, including the mini-sandwich she has somehow managed to sneak off the table and is in the middle of nibbling. Is...is that something Amauras are meant to eat? Should someone intervene...? Claude seems preoccupied right now...
The other non-bird pokémon is something that many five-year-old girls would kill to have at their birthday party - a big, beautiful, pastel-colored unicorn, strolling gracefully across the grass at Claude's side. This is Gambit the Galarian Rapidash, all grown up...and of course Claude had to bring him to Kiri's birthday party. Geralt and Jaskier are bound to be here, after all...and Roach and Limelight may be here, too, so it could be a nice family reunion. If not, then Geralt at least will be as happy as the witcher ever gets to see Roach's son doing so well in the flesh, and Jaskier will probably be happy too. (Claude expects Geralt's kept Jaskier in the loop about Gambit, of course, but it's different to see it in person.)
Of course, you can also find Claude by himself, doing any number of other things!
B
Chuckling, he approaches his friend-with-no-benefits-anymore-but-he-doesn't-know-that-yet, Cotton the Altaria following him closely.
"If she loses, she'll enthusiastically repeat the insults I've taught her to you. She's particularly fond of the word fuck." Like certain witcher of his that he'd rather not mention right now. "But it's only playful of her. She'll genuinely be angry if you let her win, however."
Cotton chirps her agreement. Kiri is good chick!

Grant will admit he doesn’t know a whole lot about Kiri - not as much as he’d like, in fact. She seems like a sweet, smart kid, she really likes birds, she apparently is a bird… and that’s about the extent of his Kiri Knowledge.
But he’s tried to use that knowledge the best he can, and picked out a round, squishy pillow designed to look like a Pidove, and deposited it inside a sky-patterned gift bag. When he finds Kiri, it’s with three Pokemon in tow: A Spritzee perched on his elbow, a Rookidee snuggled into the crook of his elbow, and a Litwick scooting eagerly in circles around his feet (sure, Willow may stick out a bit, not being remotely birdlike and all, but if Breezy and Herald were going to meet the breeder Grant bought their eggs from, it only seemed fair that she be there, too).
He squats down to hand off the bag, smiling slightly as Breezy conduct his own brief examination of the birthday girl. “Happy birthday, Kiri. Five is a pretty big one!”
OTA
Since Grant’s main priorities here are to give Kiri her gift, wish her a happy birthday, and show her how the babies are doing… once that’s done, his main plan is just to mill around, talk to people, and be quietly impressed about how all-out the adults in her life have gone on this. Good.
If anyone wants to rope him into some party activities, or just talk to him… well, he’s here.
Romelle | OTA
[Romelle found a bunch of cute Swanna hair clips in various colors to give as a birthday gift. She'd been told this was a customary thing to do, after all.]

B - Bird Watching
[Romelle didn't have many birds in her group of Pokémon. Only one Altaria that she had received as an egg from Claudia. So she could be found watching some of the birds around the vineyards, debating if she wanted to try catching one. Care to talk her into it?]

happy birthday kid here's a weapon
[Geralt locates Kiri at some point during the festivities to give her his gift; it's relatively innocuous at first glance, a small box that's wrapped up in plain paper and tied up with twine. He had purposefully wrapped it so that it isn't terribly noticeable, mostly because he didn't want too many people gawking at it when it's opened. Some people get strange about this sort of gift.]
[Inside the box is a small pocket knife with a blade that's only a few inches long. It's a good size to fit into Kiri's little hands, and the treatment for the blade left a pattern that looks a little like a feather, which he thought she'd appreciate. It is also, of course, very sharp.]
Don't run with it out and don't point it at yourself. [Knife safety 101.] We'll have a lesson later.
[Knife safety 102-- how to stab.]
