001 - [Video | un: Uravity]
[It has been...a long few days for Ochako Uraraka. A long, long few days. After arriving in Newbark Town, like everyone else, she was given little to no information about, well...anything, and left to her devices. Like. Everyone else. Honestly, you'd think that there'd be an actual system put in place for all these newcomers or something. Like a Welcome Center, with information and helpful things to know. Hell, and some spare clothes...one single pair of pants and a t-shirt, alongside her pajamas, are not going to last a grueling journey like this, seriously. Thank goodness Ochako is as frugal as frugal comes. She can most certainly make her money last, and knows all the tricks to ration her food and take care of her belongings.
One of the few perks of being dirt poor.
The first day or two was spent mostly just acclimating to the new normal. Getting to know her Pokemon - a cute and very pink Cleffa, which Ochako finally decided on a name for...Parfait. It was cute and sweet, just like her little, meeping partner. Next in line was, uh...actually training up the little thing. It was weird thinking that this tiny, pudgy, pink cream puff could fight, but...then again, a lot of people underestimated her, and Ochako had one hell of a punch, and her high kick was, by Gunhead's standards, top shelf. So, after a few fumbled first battles (Ochako learned quickly that birds are jerks in this world), she eventually got the hang of it, hanging around the outskirts of Cherrygrove (in the early part of route 29 and 30 respectively), battling Pokemon and looking to expand her growing team.
And boy did she find one hell of a Pokemon to add. The video feed comes one with Ochako looking quite disheveled, her hair standing up in a few spots and a spattering of...some sort of food item on her cheek.]
Mmh... H-Hello, everyone, um. M-My name is Uraraka. U-Uraraka Ochako... [She tries to smooth her hair down, but to no avail.] I-I'm new here and. Ehh...
I-Is it normal for Poke...Pokey...Poker--...for your critters to refuse to eat? D-Do they have preferences? Because, um... [Ochako switches her Gear's camera to show off a very petulant looking Espurr, sitting on its butt on a stone with arms crossed, a little bowl in front of it floating around and smacking on the side of the rock every few seconds.] Th-This one won't accept anything I've given her. She's like a picky child...
[Ochako heaves a big, heavy sigh, shoulders drooping.] I don't want to waste all my food, but I don't want her to not eat, either!! Mmmaahh...Eclair-chaaan...please eat something. Maybe some water? At least a drink?

video;
Aww...! She's adorable...!
[ Oops, she let that be the first thing she said when she saw the picky pouty baby... but this might actually be a serious problem, so she clears her throat. ]
S-Sorry, uh...
[ Crap, actually... she wasn't sure. She was just as new to this as Ochako was, but she was fortunate enough to not have to deal with this. All of her Pokemon seemed to eat what was given to them, after all. Well, she had one idea, maybe... ]
Have you tried like... putting something else on it...?

[Or so damn picky. Ochako is starting to think this angy baby is going to be one of those spoiled fancy cats that only eats slivers of raw seafood, judging by how Eclair definitely seemed to perk up at the mentions of fish whenever Ochako stole a glance her way. She really...can't afford that stuff, though...and hopes to satiate her with some berries that people have been mentioning.]
I'm not exactly sure what. I don't really know what these things can and can't eat, and I don't want to make her sick, you know? Plus, I...don't really have much to begin with. Even if she's a bit of a brat, I still want to make sure she stays healthy. It's my responsibility to look after her.
[Ochako waggles her fingers toward the huffy Espurr, who makes a whiny "nyaaa" noise but doesn't lash out, scooting closer a bit because it does want some attention. Truly a tsun catte.]
I...wonder if they sell katsuobushi here. [Dried Bonito flakes.] Those are pretty cheap, and it'd give a well enough fishy taste if I put it over some canned stuff.

I guess... other solutions could be maybe wet food? If that exists... or maybe a specific flavor of pokefood? Though I’m not sure how much that costs...
[ Berries were of course another option, since while Yuzu’s been warned RATHER THOROUGHLY away from eating any herself, her Pokémon seem to usually enjoy them without much fail. ]

I saw cans of what I thought was tuna, but it has different fish on it...one looked like a red snapper, but it said it was a carp? [Magikarp.] And then there was a bag of dried stuff, I honestly thought it was something for laundry... Wishy-Washy? I think?
I have to go back to that grocery store to double check...but people said some berries might tide her over for the time being, so I'll try that. [Ochako grunts, shifting the camera a bit as Eclair yowls, then crawls over to plant herself square in the girl's lap and paw at the gear. Pay attention to MEEEE. >:C]

[ She spent a little time by a body of water for a bit and saw the red fish fly WAY out of the water before plopping back in again. Seriously, is it even possible for fish to jump that high? In any case, she'd used her Pokedex on the Pokegear to figure out what it was called... which lead to learning that it's only skill is being able to jump very high and a surprisingly high survival ability. ]
Uh, nevermind... yeah, berries should work! Just... don't eat them yourself. I've heard nothing good about doing that...
[ In other news! Ochako's Eclair is adorable and Yuzu's heart is melting... while also feeling bad for what Ochako is going through. Still, how can she resist a face like that? ]
Daww, look at you... someone likes being spoiled, huh?
[ Words clearly directed at Eclair, the tsun catte. It was precious... and for a second she thinks of finding one herself, but considering the attitude of this one... she should probably pass. ]

Eh...eheh, y-yeah, everyone's said the same thing. Another girl sent me a list of all the ones that are safe for Pokemon to eat and...th-the side effects are pretty intense on humans. I can deal with a bit of nausea, I-I'm used to it, but the other stuff... [Yikes.] If you want, Yuzu-chan, I can send you that file. I don't know if you need it or not.
[Snorting, Ochako begins to giggle and rub at her needs Espurr's cheek, and the tiny, purple Pokemon responds with a low growl that turns into soft kitten purrs, though it continues to make a face much like a grumpy cat...though leans into and against its Trainer all too happily. The face really doesn't match the action at all.]
Mm, I really think so. She's so cute, but acts a little bit like a brat, ehehe!! But she's really, really sweet...and gets along with Parfait-chan, too, and I think she's actually pretty strong. Honestly, she's um. S-Sort of like someone I know... Hopefully once I get her fed and happy, she'll behave a bit better. Yeah? Are you going to behave when I get you something tasty? Eclair-chan?
[>:T Nyao.]

[ God, her Espurr so adorable... Yuzu kind of wishes she could just appear there so she could give love and affection to this tsun catte as well, but what can you do? Besides, she has her own fluffballs anyway. ]
Ehe, hopefully yeah! I'll try and find out more about handling picky eaters as well!

Thanks, Yuzu-chan... I don't really know what I expected. It's still so weird having to look after all these little animals all the time - I never had pets, or even took care of any animals, s-so...this is all so new to me. At least people are really nice here, and willing to help out. I just hate having to sound so clueless, too, y'know? It's like a tourist that doesn't know anything... [Or a newbie, but...man. She really, really needs to sit down and read through that Guidebook she keeps forgetting she has. Ochako sort of put off really reading it through and instead just sort of...skimmed. But no, she really just needs to think of this like an exam and just...get her ass in gear and read. Memorize this shit, because it's going to be her life now. Still--]
Really wish there was a school or something here...that teaches you about this kinda stuff.

There has to be at least one, right? Still, wouldn't enrolling make the whole Pokemon Journey a little hard? Considering how long it takes to get anywhere else on foot...
[ Plus, the Guidebook has most of the information you need... though it's funny, Yuzu never thought she would be considering school like this. She's usually a pretty diligent student, after all. ]

I would hope so! It'd make sense to have, you know? No one just grows up knowing all this stuff, there's so much to it!! I'm sure there has to be a school somewhere that teaches things... Mmh. Though you're right. Enrolling in a school would be hard, too, if they want us traveling. I wouldn't mind an accelerated class - I know those sort of quick training courses exist for like...two weeks? Usually? Sometimes a month but I've heard of them. A-At least back home, anyway.
I don't think online tutoring is as viable here....

[ The guidebook was handy, but it's not exactly an expert's guide to Pokemon. Getting to know some more of the obscure things that wouldn't be written in a guidebook. ]
Well, the best we can do right now is read, right? Or just keep asking questions like this on the network.
[ You know, pokemon caretaking questions, that sort of thing. Things like battling of course would have to be something they figured out on their own. ]
no subject
Yeah, yeah...I know you're right. [BIG SIGH.] I guess I just miss being in the school setting... It's so weird not seeing Aizawa-sensei, and All Might-sensei, and all the other Pros everyday...even if the courses weren't always easy.
[Ochako misses them all terribly.]
