tmw u bullshit fighting scene as you try to remember positions and shit
[There's time for admiration later. Dimitri grunts as the two of them hit the ground, and he already knows what Geralt is going to try before he tries it. The goal of all wrestling, of course.]
[But he still has his pipe in hand. Can't be swung, not properly, but it's still something. Dimitri shifts his grip on it as he falls, just enough to jab one end of it into the earth. Something to at least momentarily stop the roll Geralt is forcing on him, so that he can dig his own feet against the earth and slam his head into Geralt's face.]
fight scenes, man, they're hard (and not just like felix's dick rn)
[Also, Dimitri just slams his head into Geralt's nose. That derails things a little.]
[Geralt grunts as Dimitri's solid skull connects with his face; it's a good hit, there's a real art to headbutting someone so that you don't rattle your own brain in the process. No blood yet, but that's more luck on Geralt's end than anything he did to mitigate damage.]
[He reaches for the pole that Dimitri planted into the ground with the intent to dislodge it and deprive him of that anchor. Both of their grips on the object are firm; ultimately, the weakest link in this chain is the metal itself, which gives with a pained noise under the force of Geralt's arm, bending at a sharp angle.]

[So, you know, par for the course]
[Also par for the course is the sharp and painful noise of the metal of the pipe warping underneath grip that is too strong for it. Worse, in fact, because it's two different grips, with Dimitri's own snapping part of it right off.]
[Well. Crud.]
[With his hand free, on account of breaking metal, Dimitri does the most automatic thing he can think of: he redirects his fist towards Geralt's side and... isn't thinking too hard about the strength behind it.]

no subject
[Usually, when sparring with humans, Geralt generally avoids striking the head-- human skulls are fragile and their brains are so prone to getting scrambled that he won't take the risk. He doesn't want his sparring partners to end up permanently addled, after all.]
[Geralt punches Dimitri in the face.]
[He throws it from the left side, taking advantage of Dimitri's reduced field of vision to get a good blow or two in, and then go for trying to pin his arms if the other man is dazed enough to give him an opportunity.]
no subject
[Geralt's fist to his face knocks those worries soundly out of his skull, along with probably most of his capability to think. It's a good thing he's already missing an eye on that side; a punch like that would probably give him the world's worst (or best, depending on which side one is on) shiner. The world swims for a moment, too much noise and sensation and a pounding headache already starting up. By the time he realizes where his arms are going - with no input from him - it's a bit too late for that.]
[But he wouldn't have survived for five years on his own, waging a one man campaign against a whole ass Empire, if he just laid down and died. With an animalistic snarl rolling out of his chest and from his mouth, Dimitri tries to dig his feet into the earth, see if he can't dislodge Geralt like a bucking beast.]
