Beach fun for beach bums

Who: Everybody!
Where: Cianwood!
When: June 21st, all day.
Summary: Come to Cianwood today to celebrate the solstice, participate in a race and maybe even get a date??

June 21st. The solstice. The longest day of the year. Practically half the year gone already, which frankly, seems rather insane. It seems like only yesterday you were all fighting to save Christmas with Santa, and yet, that was almost six months ago! How can that be? We just don't know. Time is a force even more mysterious than pokemon evolution.

In any case, Cianwood has gone all out to make this solstice a great big celebration. The beach is awash with bright-coloured umbrellas and stands, selling everything a visitor might need to make this into one hell of a day (and, let's be real, also a lot of things you don't need, but hey, who doesn't want a nice souvenir?) Rental stands have everything from surfboards to huge inner tubes for rent for those who want to stay at the surface of the water, as well as snorkelling equipment for those who won't mind taking a peek below the surface. On a cleared stretch of beach, a small Sand Castle Contest is being organised. The prize won't be anything fancy (just a token little reward, really) but why not enter? Don't worry, there are separate prizes for kids and adults. Meanwhile, large piles of wood have been stacked here and there, waiting for evening to fall so the bonfires can be lit.

One particular section of the beach is a riot of different smells, with various restaurants and other establishments having set up stands to sell you all the very best. It doesn't matter what you are in the mood for, because you won't have any trouble finding it here! Want some BBQ? It's there; several Sizzlepede keeping those coals nice and hot while the cooks chuck everything that can vaguely be chucked onto those grills. Would you rather cool down with some ice cream? No problem; just as long as you can actually make a choice from all those different flavours available. Has the summer sun put you in a fruit mood? Watermelons (whole and cut), strawberries, cherries, papaya -- it's too much to name!

Or do you maybe just want a drink? It's important to keep hydrated, you know! Juice, water, mocktails and cocktails, everything that you could possibly want to stave off the heat is there. There is even coffee and teas available for those who need their daily worship at the Church of Caffeine. Just don't overheat on them!

And, of course, there is the race.

It looks like the first-ever SEMPER race has drawn quite the crowd. And where there is a crowd, there are more souvenir stands. Why not buy a flag or two to cheer on your pokemon? Or maybe you should buy an 'I ran the SEMPER race and all I got was this lousy t-shirt' for your pokemon to commemorate the occasion. They sell them in all sorts of sizes.

And then there is that mystery section of beach, currently cordoned off with ropes and screens. Signs let everybody know that this is where the Helping Hand auction will be taking place later tonight, but if you had hoped to get an early peek at the decorations or items up for auction, you will be sorely disappointed. Be patient and wait like everybody else is.

So come all and enjoy the beach. Participate in a race maybe, and pull your wallets for tonight's charity event. After all, who knows when disaster might strike again? Better enjoy things while you can!

ooc: The Charity Auction will have its own log, which will be posted later tonight. Should there be any questions, please use the event info post to ask them.

Character: Geralt of Rivia
Pokemon entered in the Water race: Jaskier's Luvdisc (lvl 41)
Pokemon entered in the Ground race: Gweld the Mimikyu (lvl 19)
Pokemon entered in the Air race: Bard the Talonflame (lvl 90)

Strategies:

Water

01: Lampro knows the move Whirlpool, which should help out with getting around those tricky whirlpools in the maze. He's also a Pokemon that lives in coral reefs, so he'd be used to navigating narrow, twisty spaces with fast currents. Agility also would help make him quick and, uh, agile.

02: While Luvdisc aren't super deep diving Pokemon like Wailmers, he can get down to a decent depth, and Lampro is a quick little bastard with the Agility move. His smoochy smoochy mouth is also perfect for grabbing small objects like keys. Lampro's whole schtick is being a matchmaker, so his tactic will be to pattern-match to find just the perfect key for that lock. It's just like finding couples except keys and locks don't live in denial for twenty goddamn years.

03: GOTTA GO FAST

Lampro's Agility move will really shine here, which he is gonna take to the fucking MAX, and he also has Rain Dance and the Swift Swim ability to double his speed again. FISH CANNON GO BRRRRRR

Base speed: 97

Relay: 5, 16

Ground

01: Gweld is a tiny fast baby, so his best route would be to go across narrow beams or rope bridges that would be less narrow to such a tiny boy. He also has a very long ghostie arm that he could use to grab onto the rope/beam in the event that he falls or gets knocked off. Going along very narrow routes also would probably allow him to avoid some of the bigger, heavier Pokemon in the race, too.

As for Gweld's evasion, he is already small and hard to hit, and also has double-team to boost his dodging. If someone else in the race also has a better evasion-boosting move, Gweld will use Copycat to gank that move. His Disguise ability also can let his costume take the damage of an attack instead of him, so maybe that would help in the event that he does get boulder-smacked.

Evasion rate: 133% with double-team (possibly more with Copycat)

02: Mimikyu doesn't have much in the way of long-distance attacks, but Gweld's got Copycat and no sense of shame, so he'll just gank other competitors' most accurate distance attacks in order to nail those targets. If anyone gets upset at him for copying their moves, he'll just use Baby-Doll Eyes on them to look too goddamn cute to be mad at. (Like all ghosts, Gweld is a Menace, just a slightly different type of Menace from Geralt's usual.)

03: You know what this is a good time for? COPYCAT. When another Pokemon uses Agility or another speed-boosting move, Gweld's copying that shit to boost his own speed, and then he's running as fast as his speedy little legs will carry him. Gweld also has the Jolly nature, which increases speed.

Base speed: 96

Relay: 7, 14

Air

01: Bard is a 54 lb Talonflame with No Fear, he's going right into those crosswinds. He also has the move Steel Wing which can raise defense and a Bold nature, so he will Steel Himself against the strong winds. Agility boosts his speed to get him through the rough patches faster, as does Tailwind, and considering that Talonflames routinely fly of speeds in excess of 300mph and Bard is Geralt's primary flier, he should be experienced in navigating rough skies.

02: Talonflames are, as previously mentioned, good at flying and diving at high speeds, so Bard will be taking advantage of that natural predilection for the ring challenge. Agility boosts his speed and he also has the Acrobatics move, and since he isn't carrying any items, he's extra nimble. His strategy would be to use quick, precise dives to get as many rings of the right color as possible in one fell swoop, maximizing efficiency.

Base speed: 126

03: Agility to the MAX plus Tailwind plus Brave Bird means that Bard is a bird-shaped projectile with no fear and no worldly desire other than to go fast.

Base speed: 126
