Beach fun for beach bums
Who: Everybody!
Where: Cianwood!
When: June 21st, all day.
Summary: Come to Cianwood today to celebrate the solstice, participate in a race and maybe even get a date??
June 21st. The solstice. The longest day of the year. Practically half the year gone already, which frankly, seems rather insane. It seems like only yesterday you were all fighting to save Christmas with Santa, and yet, that was almost six months ago! How can that be? We just don't know. Time is a force even more mysterious than pokemon evolution.
In any case, Cianwood has gone all out to make this solstice a great big celebration. The beach is awash with bright-coloured umbrellas and stands, selling everything a visitor might need to make this into one hell of a day (and, let's be real, also a lot of things you don't need, but hey, who doesn't want a nice souvenir?) Rental stands have everything from surfboards to huge inner tubes for rent for those who want to stay at the surface of the water, as well as snorkelling equipment for those who won't mind taking a peek below the surface. On a cleared stretch of beach, a small Sand Castle Contest is being organised. The prize won't be anything fancy (just a token little reward, really) but why not enter? Don't worry, there are separate prizes for kids and adults. Meanwhile, large piles of wood have been stacked here and there, waiting for evening to fall so the bonfires can be lit.
One particular section of the beach is a riot of different smells, with various restaurants and other establishments having set up stands to sell you all the very best. It doesn't matter what you are in the mood for, because you won't have any trouble finding it here! Want some BBQ? It's there; several Sizzlepede keeping those coals nice and hot while the cooks chuck everything that can vaguely be chucked onto those grills. Would you rather cool down with some ice cream? No problem; just as long as you can actually make a choice from all those different flavours available. Has the summer sun put you in a fruit mood? Watermelons (whole and cut), strawberries, cherries, papaya -- it's too much to name!
Or do you maybe just want a drink? It's important to keep hydrated, you know! Juice, water, mocktails and cocktails, everything that you could possibly want to stave off the heat is there. There is even coffee and teas available for those who need their daily worship at the Church of Caffeine. Just don't overheat on them!
And, of course, there is the race.
It looks like the first-ever SEMPER race has drawn quite the crowd. And where there is a crowd, there are more souvenir stands. Why not buy a flag or two to cheer on your pokemon? Or maybe you should buy an 'I ran the SEMPER race and all I got was this lousy t-shirt' for your pokemon to commemorate the occasion. They sell them in all sorts of sizes.
And then there is that mystery section of beach, currently cordoned off with ropes and screens. Signs let everybody know that this is where the Helping Hand auction will be taking place later tonight, but if you had hoped to get an early peek at the decorations or items up for auction, you will be sorely disappointed. Be patient and wait like everybody else is.
So come all and enjoy the beach. Participate in a race maybe, and pull your wallets for tonight's charity event. After all, who knows when disaster might strike again? Better enjoy things while you can!

ooc: The Charity Auction will have its own log, which will be posted later tonight. Should there be any questions, please use the event info post to ask them.

yes but theres lapras and cute cr so i think we're all winning here
( because jinx is kinda getting that with ghosts, to be honest... and also the clefairy line in general. prim's such a good amazing girl, armin-
still, it's good to see ness happy- not that he's not a jolly little fella in general, but... well. she worries, and she's glad he's generally such a playful and friendly thing. petting the side of his neck with her free hand, she hums a bit. )
He's- I got him during Prom. And then I've been around Azalea, so he hasn't had a lot of time to really come out and play.

[If Ness will allow it, Armin is going to reach over to slowly stroke his neck as well. He's pretty familiar with Lapras body language at this point though, so if he seems uncomfortable at any point, he'll drop it.]
They really do need a lot of room to properly dive and play. I can imagine it being difficult while travelling.

( huh. maybe ness could help. he still feels a little young to her, but she's new to lapras and he could just be playful? (he's just playful, and a little on the small side.)
ness, for what its worth, welcomes the attention readily! for whatever happened to him, it certainly hasn't gotten this lad down. )
Mm. I've been trying to ensure he gets everything he can out of today for that alone, honestly.

[What a good lad, and if he doesn't mind the attention, then Armin will unless all his knowledge of Lapras sweet spots on Ness. If there is one thing he has learned it is all the best places to pet and scratch!]
If you are ever on the Sevii Islands, feel free to drop by my gym. I'm sure my pod would love to meet Ness. [He quickly adds, because he doesn't want her to misunderstand:] Not for anything permanent, of course. But just so they can play together once in a while.

I'm hoping to save up enough to spend next winter there, actually- I'm not big on snow... and I'm sure he'd love to make some new friends!
( and on cue, ness coos in agreement. friends! lapras friends for ness!! )

Well, you certainly won't need to worry about snow on the islands. I'll admit, it's part of the reason I'm living there too. I always hated our winter camp outs during training.
[Snow is very lovely looking for a while, but eventually it is just cold. And being a skinny runt means Armin never was all that great at building up body heat. So the balmy soft winters in Sevii suit him just fine.]

I spent the past few years living in a city on the beach- snow is. I can't really say new, but it wasn't part of my life for a reason.
( she's still not over showing up late december/early january. though, that's certainly not the only reason... )
Training, huh?

[And, you know, gone through two massacres already. It's okay. That's just what it is like.]
Every year they'd take us up into the mountains and forced us to undergo winter and snow training. They wanted us to be ready to handle all sorts of terrain.

That does make sense... but also, it sounds awful. Couldn't be me. ( SAYS THE LITERAL CHILD SOLDIER- jinx. jinx please. ) ... I'm glad that you get to be somewhere more peaceful though. You don't seem like the sort who'd be happy like that.

[Would Armin have joined the army if he had come from a world like this? No, not at all. But that hadn't been his situation. Back in his world, his choice had been between living as a farmer --unable to ever see the outside world or come to understand it-- or to join the survey corps and ride out beyond the walls.
Even with the high risk of death, it had still been an easy choice for Armin to make. He might have been a child soldier, but at least he was a willing one.]
