Beach fun for beach bums

Who: Everybody!
Where: Cianwood!
When: June 21st, all day.
Summary: Come to Cianwood today to celebrate the solstice, participate in a race and maybe even get a date??

June 21st. The solstice. The longest day of the year. Practically half the year gone already, which frankly, seems rather insane. It seems like only yesterday you were all fighting to save Christmas with Santa, and yet, that was almost six months ago! How can that be? We just don't know. Time is a force even more mysterious than pokemon evolution.

In any case, Cianwood has gone all out to make this solstice a great big celebration. The beach is awash with bright-coloured umbrellas and stands, selling everything a visitor might need to make this into one hell of a day (and, let's be real, also a lot of things you don't need, but hey, who doesn't want a nice souvenir?) Rental stands have everything from surfboards to huge inner tubes for rent for those who want to stay at the surface of the water, as well as snorkelling equipment for those who won't mind taking a peek below the surface. On a cleared stretch of beach, a small Sand Castle Contest is being organised. The prize won't be anything fancy (just a token little reward, really) but why not enter? Don't worry, there are separate prizes for kids and adults. Meanwhile, large piles of wood have been stacked here and there, waiting for evening to fall so the bonfires can be lit.

One particular section of the beach is a riot of different smells, with various restaurants and other establishments having set up stands to sell you all the very best. It doesn't matter what you are in the mood for, because you won't have any trouble finding it here! Want some BBQ? It's there; several Sizzlepede keeping those coals nice and hot while the cooks chuck everything that can vaguely be chucked onto those grills. Would you rather cool down with some ice cream? No problem; just as long as you can actually make a choice from all those different flavours available. Has the summer sun put you in a fruit mood? Watermelons (whole and cut), strawberries, cherries, papaya -- it's too much to name!

Or do you maybe just want a drink? It's important to keep hydrated, you know! Juice, water, mocktails and cocktails, everything that you could possibly want to stave off the heat is there. There is even coffee and teas available for those who need their daily worship at the Church of Caffeine. Just don't overheat on them!

And, of course, there is the race.

It looks like the first-ever SEMPER race has drawn quite the crowd. And where there is a crowd, there are more souvenir stands. Why not buy a flag or two to cheer on your pokemon? Or maybe you should buy an 'I ran the SEMPER race and all I got was this lousy t-shirt' for your pokemon to commemorate the occasion. They sell them in all sorts of sizes.

And then there is that mystery section of beach, currently cordoned off with ropes and screens. Signs let everybody know that this is where the Helping Hand auction will be taking place later tonight, but if you had hoped to get an early peek at the decorations or items up for auction, you will be sorely disappointed. Be patient and wait like everybody else is.

So come all and enjoy the beach. Participate in a race maybe, and pull your wallets for tonight's charity event. After all, who knows when disaster might strike again? Better enjoy things while you can!

ooc: The Charity Auction will have its own log, which will be posted later tonight. Should there be any questions, please use the event info post to ask them.

sighs, THIS IS A LOSING BATTLE OCHAKO

[personal profile] fortuna_tenax 2021-07-12 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
( 'i'll let you know'. x to doubt, girls like them don't do that. when you've had nothing, you can't trust people to be there for you. but... she also doesn't truly know ochako that well. she'd be fine bickering this out with izuku. even felix, proud grumpy asshole that he is. considering she's trying to be like... nicer, she's not sure how to really contest this?

wait. never mind she got it- )

You can't elude my generosity forever. ( ominous! ) But that just means I'm gonna treat you to snacks and stuff aaaaaaaall day instead. Your choice!

But yeah, it's... I dunno, kinda shocking. Like, I'm sure there's so many gym challenges every day... but it's nice to be able to check on people like that. I'll be trying for the second gym soon. But you guys all did good, so take the time to relax.

( she's been too easy going about the challenge, but also razor's been so happy around azalea and ilex forest, so... she'll put up with it for him. )

I can't say anything, I asked my d- ... some friends to get me pokémon from places they were going that I wasn't yet, before. If you see an advantage, you take it.

Even if it's just for fun and exploration.

good thing she doesn't give up

[personal profile] floatsaway 2021-07-17 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not that she doesn't trust people to be there, it's that Ochako just doesn't like to worry people over what she perceives as not a big deal. This is her issue and she should be the one to work through it. And the fact of the matter is, she can work through it - she has two arms and two legs that aren't broken, and she has the drive and determination to stand on her own. It's the reason she's not traveling with the boys and seeking their help (even if she does miss them), because she wants to do things herself. It's a matter of growth, and feeling accomplished with her endeavors because she did it herself.

Plus, there's just the stigma that...because she's poor, she needs help. That she's 'helpless', and that has never sat well with Ochako before. The charity and generosity of her friends is nice, and she appreciates it, she does, but she doesn't want it all the time because it doesn't make her feel good. Doesn't make her feel like she's progressing.]

You don't know where I am all the time. [She grins, sticking her tongue out sneakily.] But I'll accept little snacks from time to time. I love food!!

Mm, it is nice to be able to check on people like that. It's weird not being together with my friends like I'm used to - me and the boys used to all live together in a dorm on campus at UA, did you know? Our whole class. But at least getting to meet up with them sometimes, see them on the Gear, or watch their battles makes me happy. Next time I fight one, I hope they can come and watch me. [Ochako strokes her Gabite's head, who's now curled up beside her and dozing with his head on her lap. Rough skin, but still soft as fuck. It's astonishing how much she's come to love these little guys, and vice versa.]

Mm, I think you're right. I really don't have that many, e-even if I think I do. I know other people have hundreds so just, um...ten is probably nothing. And I do need some more variance among my, um...team? Ehehe, I'd like different kinds, especially one that can swim. I don't really have anything like that. Oh, and!! And one that can fight! I mean, like...actually fight. Like, um yah, yah!

[And she throws a few swift air jabs and palm strikes.] I'd love something to practice my martial arts against!

Food is the manifestation of love and joy, let's be honest.

Oh- yeah, my team all lives in the same building. It's just off the shore of the city, so we can have our privacy and get there as fast as possible too.

( jinx nods as she listens though, because she gets it- going from a team to solo or near-solo is jarring as all heck, especially the longer it's been or the larger the group. but then she perks up, like a cat who's seen the shiny light reflected on the wall. )

I've been thinking that I'm getting out of practice. I'd love to have sparring partners. And hey, keep an eye on egg posts on the network and stuff? I got a few that way, which was really helpful. Annnnd... if I get any eggs from my own team, I'll definitely give you a call.

( mostly though she's just... sparring partner? sparring partner for jinx? especially without her magic- sure, she can command her team pretty well, but... thugs don't always keep it just to pokémon. if she was still like that, she wouldn't. )
floatsaway: (94.)

they are precious and dumb.

[personal profile] floatsaway 2021-07-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Ochako nods, making a quiet 'ah' sound in agreement. Food is filled with joy and love - it's all the feelings the chef puts into it, hoping people will enjoy and have their fill. There's no bigger compliment to a cook than that of a clean plate and happy faces. Ochako knows and feels this - even if she's never had much, her mother taught her to cook, and she loves to do it!! The recipes she knows, though relatively basic, she can make with excellence and skill, in her sleep. Plus, they taste great.

But wait, Ochako picks up something interesting from all that, even more than the Egg posts and living together with her traveling party. Her eyes widen and she leans forward, closer to Jinx because Uraraka Ochako does not know the concept of personal space well at all. Thuban makes a disgruntled noise from being jostled awake a bit, shuffling to snuggle his nose against Ochako's side.]

Eeeh?! Jinx-san, you know how to fight?! Like hand-to-hand?! I-Is that right?! I really wanted someone to spar with, too, and I know there are dojos and actual gyms around here, b-but it's not the same as having a partner!! Did you learn from anyone? Are you self taught?? What styles do you know?!

[Oops, a floodgate has been open, and now the questions are pouring out excitedly.]

[personal profile] fortuna_tenax 2021-07-22 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
( jinx laughs- light and airy and delighted, unlike the sharp tone of her voice, or the general distance she's composed herself despite friendly outreaching. ness coos happily, if only because seeing your trainer happy would naturally make you happy. )

I don't have a specific style, truth be told. I'd always relied more on my magic, but being able to throw a good punch is important too, you know? And... well. Some other things. I've picked things up from others who were trained in more formal styles, though. I have a talent for mixing actual hand-to-hand in with acrobatics, it's pretty good for hit and run strikes? And I'm pretty scrappy in general! I'll keep you on your toes.

( street kids gotta be unpredictable, after all. otherwise... )

My team has a really great training ground though- I mean. My hero team back home. Not my pokémon. ... Someday they'll have their own though, because they deserve the best.
floatsaway: Used with permission! (126.)

[personal profile] floatsaway 2021-07-25 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Mm!! I know exactly what you're talking about! I'd mix my martial arts with my quirk when I get the chance, because Zero Gravity activates by touch...so if I get in a palm strike or grab, I can easily overpower even some tough villains!!

[Touching them to get them off balance and strike with an open hand, then high kick them into the air and follow with an aerial flurry of punches and spinning kicks...then slamming them back down to the ground with a dropkick and a release of gravity at the same time... Not to mention grabbing and hurling enemies into the air like a frisbee is...delightfully fun, in an empowering kind of way.

Ochako is practically vibrating now, finding a similar interest with Jinx and bouncing just slightly from where she sits. Thuban make a louder noise of complaint and finally gives up on sleep entirely, pulling away from her with a grunt and splaying himself out in the sun and sand a few feet away.]

Uwaah that's so cool!! Back home we'd just get to use the gym and training grounds to practice when they were available, but we'd always have to book them in advance. I really want to go to an actual gym here - a fitness gym - or a dojo!! I want to fight someone!! Really bad! I've been getting rusty and I don't like that at all!

Ehehe, if you ever wanna spar together, Jinx-san, I'd really love that! I wanna see what sort of things you can do!!
fortuna_tenax: ("ur full of urself tbh")

[personal profile] fortuna_tenax 2021-07-30 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what? That's so useful! I wanna spar when we get our powers back again!

( she's more destabilization and... uh. cancellation, when she's mixing her magic with her hand-to-hand. and honestly, there's a part of her that's unsure if she wants to risk just attacking magically with her new friends. her powers hurt. )

The Titans' Tower is a home base, training facility and... well, the only place the main team has, so it has to cover for a lot of things. Cyborg and Robin are always adding to it too, to ensure they can account for everything. There's going to be huge renovations to one of the courses too, since I've joined up.

Today is beach day... but I'm so down. Any time!
floatsaway: (108.)

[personal profile] floatsaway 2021-08-01 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely!! You can see me really go all out!

[Her skills with her quirk are pretty devastating, if Ochako has stuff to use as a heavy-hitting blunt force weapon, or a massive projectile. She's not exactly a fighter, more support than anything, but she's growing her skillset and evolving to be a bit of a balanced, jack-of-all-trades sort of Hero. It broadens her horizons and opens up plenty more opportunities in her future career.

And, well...sparring is a bit of a risk, honestly. All her friends' quirks have the capability to really do damage. Bakugou's explosions, which she's faced head on (those fucking hurt), Todoroki's ice and fire...and by gods, Deku's crazy strength and that improvised air canon kind of technique he has? Woof. Not to mention Mina's acid, Momo's ability to create heavy-duty weapons from her body, Tokoyami and Dark Shadow...oh, and Kaminari's lightning. That's just naming a few.]

Heeeh...it sounds a little like UA, but rolled into one spot. That's really cool... [Cyborg and Robin...huh, probably other Heroes Jinx knows. It'd be super cool to get to meet them one day, if they ever show up.] Mm, I think a day of relaxation is a good thing, my friends definitely need it after everything they did to win that badge for me.

[Thuban grunts, and Ochako reaches over again to pet his head.]
fortuna_tenax: ("ur full of urself tbh")

[personal profile] fortuna_tenax 2021-08-04 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. I'm a newer member of the team, and sometimes Kid Flash takes me to other cities if he thinks he could use my help there so we're still figuring out what courses and tools would benefit me the most. One of the training grounds is designed to be a shifting course with someone in command of what happens and when? Which is neat.

--Oh, Kid Flash is another hero. He's stationed in Central City, primarily? But his power is super speed- he can get anywhere in seconds.

( get you a man who sprints to paris from california to get you some pastries, ochako, holy shit. )

But yeah, they all did great. They deserve a chance to play and rest... but don't sell yourself too short either, you know. They relied on you to lead them, just as much as you relied on them to fight.

[personal profile] floatsaway 2021-08-07 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh that is cool!! Your set up actually sounds a lot like Musutafu, back home, various pro Heroes have their agencies set up in a centralized location so they more or less work around and govern that area with their various sidekicks and police support.

And UA has a wide area where we do practice runs of various emergency scenarios both on and off campus, too. I've actually done both - a lot of the faculty at UA are good at making and redeveloping grounds extremely quickly with their quirks, so it's never the same thing twice, more or less. The scene may be similar, but the paths and routes through the courses always change very subtly, so to keep us all on our toes!

[This conversation is so much fun? Ochako's eyes are bright and sparkly, hanging onto Jinx's every word as she absorbs it all. It's like learning about someone else's Hero Academia from another school, or even abroad or something!! Different scenarios, different learning methods, different types of Heroes from all over the world! It's all fascinating and Ochako wants to hear and talk all about it. It's home, or close enough to it that the nostalgia is...almost fueling her positive energy right now.]

Oooh so he's like Iida-kun!! He can run super duper fast, too! [And while she doesn't get up and do it, Ochako does do the jerky arm movements that was just...100% Iida when he runs.] Though his quirk is a bit different than just super speed! He has engines in his calves that propel him forward when he runs and that's what allows him to go tatatata!!

[More of those hand movements, eyooo, faster this time, and Ochako laughs. God, she misses Iida so much.] He's one of my best friends, and among the first I made when I got to UA!!

In a sense! Heroes don't follow the same regulations- they're anonymous volunteers, primarily, but they still work with the city to catch criminals and bring them to justice- as well as other things. The Flash and Kid Flash help their city's criminals with mental health problems, keep them on the wagon and stuff- real big advocates for things like that. And some of the kid heroes are former sidekicks of the adults who struck out independently.

The adult heroes are all mostly part of a unit called the Justice League, which oversees protection of the entire world, and the Teen Titans are kind of an answer to that, basically? After the leader- Robin- left his mentor's side. Cities that don't see a lot of superpowered activity don't really get active heroes for the most part. --I, ha, talked about this with Izuku too, when I was telling him about my city's team, ehe...

A-anyways. It's a good system, I think- we like to switch up who's in charge of maintaining the obstacles for the day since everyone thinks differently. It's a good application for training yourself and learning what the others will think is difficult- either for themselves or what they believe your weaknesses to be.

( it's so hard not to laugh at ochako's earnest impression of her friend though- which is precisely why jinx fails, almost falling back just a bit. )

K-Kid Flash is more fluid than that, I think- but engines? Really? Doesn't that hurt? ( but that does get her... she misses her speedster too. ) I get what you mean. Kid's... ... he's the first person to treat me well. He saved me. And now I'm here, and he's at home... I keep thinking, 'he'd love this place' or 'he'd want to meet my new friends'.

Maybe someday you'll get the chance. He'd have a blast with you.

( and despite the melancholy subject, jinx does offer a soft, sincere smile. )

Oh, wow, that's a wonderful thing for a Hero to do!!

[Advocate for mental health, she means. In all honesty, those sorts of things aren't really pushed enough in her world...and it's a bit of a shame. The sorts of injustices that don't exactly happen out in the public eye. Evils that happen because someone couldn't get a means of help that a Hero may not be able to provide, or the so-called villain could be a domestic abuser or something similar.

Being a Hero can come in many shapes and forms, and doing something Heroic can be as easy as supporting someone who is going through the worst of it, or pointing them in a direction where they can seek the aid they need, and how.

She's sure certain Heroes promote or donate their government funding (or a portion of it) to various charities and social service groups and such, but it's still not something that is heavily publicized... Most of what the media showcases are villain captures and rescues. It's what the 'people want to see' so... Ochako sighs, shaking her head. Something to work towards once she goes Pro.]

Mm, a lot of the agencies back home hire on students or graduates to be sidekicks, and they can boost their rankings within the premier agencies to gain a top slot on the Hero Ranking Charts. It's sort of like where one falls in popularity and other things.

Well, I'm actually really glad that your team is able to spread out to the areas that don't see much Hero activity!! A lot of the time villains and criminal groups will base in areas like that, and start to grow in the shadows over time, because they aren't stopped at the source. Deku-kun probably knows way more about it, actualy...since he's studied about this sort of thing a whole lot more than me. Ehehe, he's sort of a super nerdy Hero Fanboy back home... [Ochako blushes a little bit, shuffling in place as she giggles to herself. that trait of Deku's...it's really cute. Endearing a way that's special to him alone. He gets so excited and animated!! It's so adorable! Weird sometimes, but adorable, too!]

Mm, I don't think so? I'm not really sure, since it's not my quirk, but Iida-kun's never said anything about it ever hurting him... A lot of quirks alter a human's physical makeup or not they look, and the body just sort of adaprts to it. Or we train ourselves to handle them better.

[Ochako smiles, putting her elbows on her knees and chin in her hands with a wistful smile.]

Deku-kun actually saved me when we first met. It was during the entrance exam to UA. I stupidly got caught under some rubble, and hit my weight capacity so I couldn't use my quirk to free myself...and this big ol' robot was bearing down on me and...and Deku jumped in to save me from getting hurt. He ended up hurt real bad himself because of it, a-and I was so scared he wouldn't pass the exam because of me - that robot wasn't worth any points in the exam, but...but he managed to get in because he rescued me. So I'm happy for that...

Then we all got into the same class to, and...became really good friends. Hee.

Right? They're probably my favorites for it- though, personal connections do help.

Yeah, I totally get that- but also, it's... a little weird, but it feels like a lot of villains- actual villains, not just petty crime- flock to big hero cities. Like they want the attention, or something.

( lex luthor would probably have a head start if he didn't live in the same city as superman, jussayin. it wouldn't help much, but still. )

Ah- yyyyeah, he got so excited when I offered to tell him about my team.

( which feels like so long ago, doesn't it? stupid lousy home-dreams throwing time out of wack for her. still, she listens quietly, only raising her eyebrows at the situation described- big robots attacking students like that sounds like something HIVE would do. )

That sounds like him... but I'm glad you were able to meet again.

Ah, I know what you mean... [Ochako sighs, deeply, thinking back on...the League. Every villain she encountered within the League (though she'd admit that face to face, she only ever really fought against a few of them) had some sort of ideology. They followed after Shigaraki because he connected them all through that, somehow. It was bizarre, and Ochako isn't quite at the point of understanding it just yet.]

I think what it is for some is that...they have this view of what 'Heroes' should be, or how they should act, what they should do. Anything that doesn't fit into their mold they view as wrong and needing to be fixed...or remove entirely. Some just hate us because we're Heroes. And some want the glory of beating the greats - the ones in the top slots. The pride that comes with saying "I took down the number one".

[Ochako's face darkens at that, visibly, and she takes in a long and quiet breath. All Might's downfall, the events at Kamino, and her regret for not doing more there, not doing anything there...it's hung over her head since then. She wanted to help, to save Bakugou, and even if she was right in her assumptions - that he'd view being saved by so many people as a disgrace at the time - it...it's something that's weighed heavy on her chest for months. She'll never forgive herself for it, never forget it. How could she, as a Hero, turn her back on someone in need...just because of their pride? Is that person's pride worth more than their life?

If things were different, if they saved Bakugou sooner, would All Might still be considered the number one? It's a lot to think about, and Ochako rubs her face and shakes her head. No point dwelling. What's done is done - they simply have to do their best now for the future generation of Heroes.]

Mm! I'm really lucky they were all here when I showed up. Ah...i-it was a bit disorienting at first, with everything happening at once. And I still really, really miss not being together all the time. I want to get stronger, so I'm not dragging behind them all, but it's a bit lonely sometimes, too. I'm so used to us all being together, you know?

When I can travel easier, I want to be able to visit them a lot more! And all the new friends I've met, too!!
