( most people, too. in johto, she can be at peace finally, but... ... when the world makes you sharp and angry, you learn to just work with that instead. )
... I've never been anything but a fighter. Either for the wrong people, or for the law. It's all people like me can be, because our powers are too much, too destructive, too... othering. And I have a lot to make up for anyways, I don't think anyone would let me be anything else.
( some people are thrown into leadership, born kings and dukes and emperors.
some are thrown into other things. it's only here that she has a chance to break out of that mold. )

[The Crest of Blaiddyd... like so many other crests... was something made for times of war. So much so that, unlike those other crests, it never ceased to remind him of such a fact.]
[Before Dimitri can muster himself up to say something, however, Hafren brings her dancing to the close. With one particularly hard sweep of her little arm, the fire at the end of her club extinguishes... just not all the way. Instead, there still seems to be an almost sort of ember to it, a residue glow, that leaves it in that same haunting green.]
[Hafren does not try to stop it any further. Instead, she simply straightens up, and pads her way over to where the two humans are sitting. Hafren was always exceptionally quiet as a Cubone. As a Marowak, this does not seem to have changed that much. So there's no sound, no explanation, as she simply reaches up to lightly rest the very end of it against Jinx's forehead.]
[The end of her club, still glowing with that faint green, is warm. But it doesn't burn.]

okay.
jinx stares at the club, and then down at hafren, before smiling a bit, huffing something of a quiet laugh out as her shoulders drop. )
I know. Things are different here.

[Regardless, she just nods, and then just as quietly pads over to clamber onto Dimitri's lap as she has always done many times in the past.]
[....Dimitri guesses he can't argue with the decision of a small bipedal reptile who dances for the dead. Gently, he rests his palm along the curve of Hafren's helmet.]
...I hope they become different in your home land as well, Jinx. I would like to believe that for you.

( it's the first time she's outright said it at all in this world, but with what she's given out before, she's sure it's obvious. and... despite a lot of things, dimitri's still cared for her, hasn't he? so...
it's safe.
right?
jinx leans back, watching the corsola above. )
I've already made my peace with it. The fact that I have an opportunity for normal is more than I could ever ask for.

[And he thinks of...]
...I am a criminal as well, and they allow me to be king, apparently.
[A murderous thing like him, given something so precious and which could break so easily.... And Jinx is a young girl with her life ahead of her, who deserves so much. Gently, as though he still possesses that terrible strength of his, he pats his head along Halfren's skull helmet.]
You deserve more than that, Jinx. I will do my best to give what I can here... including being allowed to be happy here, in places like this.
[Where strange not-quite-plants stretch ethereally up towards nothing in pale branches, curious creatures peering between them.]

... You sound like someone I know.
( that's what she says instead. )
no subject
In a good or bad way?
[If it's a bad way, he is going to change everything forever immediately.]

... You'd like him. You'd like Starfire, too. They both kind of... Claude and Sylvain act a lot like him, similar attitudes. But Claude's kinda like Star, too- wise, and friendly.
no subject
That is quite the beautiful name, Starfire. Were you close with her?
no subject
( did she mention she was a hitman briefly? no? well surprise! )
no subject
...It seems you both are a good match for one another.
It would be nice if she could arrive here. Perhaps the two of you could be even better friends, in this sort of situation. Johto seems to have that sort of effect.
