[So, after the ruckus around Altering Cave in Sevii, Romelle decided that getting back to the gym challenge in Johto could wait a little longer. She'd seen some cute Pokémon and heard that she could potentially find one at Mt. Moon.

She was successful.

Meet Hatenna... the newest in Romelle's roster. It had taken quite a bit of effort as Romelle is generally not a calm person while exploring caves and mazes inside mountains, but she managed it! The little hat-like Pokémon has decided to sit on her head.]

These little guys are hard to catch when you're nervous. [Romelle gave a small self-deprecating chuckle.] But, once you make friends with them, they're really adorable.

Enna! [The tiny hat flapped its wig-arms, giving the camera a big grin.]

I think I'm getting better at this whole 'adventure' thing.

A few... months over a year... [She was getting used to human terms for time measuring.] I haven't spent much time here in Kanto, either. So a lot of it is new. But I'm probably going to return to Johto soon anyway to continue my gym badge collecting. I mostly came here for the music festival, and then there was the temple research...

[ yachi’s face gets some color seeping right out of it. over a year? her mind starts to race with anxiety and goes to places it shouldn’t— like never getting used to this and having to work with slowpoke tails to survive and never going back home and that just caused a horrible loop of uneasiness—

That’s, um . . . A pretty long time. I’m in Johto, too.

It is, and there are others who have been here even longer, but it's not a bad place to be stuck honestly. And you get the make some good friends along the way.

[A massive Bewear face popped up in the frame now.] Be?

Yes, we're friends now. You've been an excellent partner since I arrived. [This was said to the Bewear as Romelle affectionately gave the creature a pat before turning back to her 'Gear.]

[ oh, god, another one. another one that happens to be cute, too, and it even helps putting some ease into yachi’s tense little shoulders. for the luck of all, seeing the pink bear that looked more like a massive plush you’d win at a carnival pulls in a shaky smile.

meeting some cool people might not make the anxiety go away, but it does remind her of home, and all the friends she made when she got into a sport that never had come to mind before. ]

I’m Hitoka Yachi— Same to you. [ she points to the bewear. ] Is that your starter?

Oh, I haven't seen one like that before! Is it another Galarian Pokemon?

[Romelle nodded.]

Yes, I believe she is. The Dex says that they react to the feelings of people around them, so it's important to stay calm when approaching one.

Like, bad emotions? Or any emotions?

[questioneverything]

Probably any, but the bad ones get her upset and send her into hiding.

Ahh-- see, someone like me would probably be really loud to them, you know? I don't want to startle one of them for just being Kazuki, if that makes sense.

Seems that way! Though, the Dex said she's called the "calm Pokémon". Still... she's awful cute.

You can just make friends with them and catch them?

The actual catching part was pretty much the same as it is for most Pokemon. But, there are ways to catch them that don't involve battling as well. I imagine that there are plenty of this particular type of Pokemon that would prefer not to battle and just make friends.

[Oh! Seeing that particular Pokemon draws Dimitri attention, and he's smiling slightly as he answers the video.]

Hatenna... I believe someone dear to me here has a companion like her.

It is good to see that you are doing well traveling through the land. For those unused to such things, I imagine it can be quite difficult at times.

[At least better traveling in Kanto than Faerghus. These lands are a bit more hospitable.]

They can be hard to find, for sure. Probably because they're prone to run away if you're even a little bit nervous. But, once Bewear helped me calm down and focus, I suddenly found Hatenna here.

[Romelle smiled.]

It certainly is different from what I'm used to. I spent so much of my life hiding from the universe in a special colony that I didn't know about much outside of it. But I wouldn't trade being able to travel and learn and experience new things to go back there. It was safe, and we were provided for, but it was still hard in its own way. Lonely...

[Running away if one is even a little nervous... So, not a companion he'll ever get, then. Well, that's probably for the best. Dimitri has his hands full to begin with, in more ways than one.]

[For now, he nods in understanding.]

And isolated... Never truly in control of things, and left wondering about what you didn't know. Although, that my be presumptuous of me to say. I do not know everything about your own circumstances, after all.

[It's just him projecting, in the end.]

[Romelle considered that and then nodded.]

It's true, though. Not many of us questioned what was going on. So many on my colony were willing to just accept our situation. I suppose generations of being afraid will do that to a people.

Not that we didn't have good reason to fear. Our people were being hunted after the destruction of our home. The idea of sheltered safety, even if it wasn't ideal, seemed better than a life on the run and in hiding for those who initially accepted the offer and went there.

Indeed. When one's life is overflowing with misfortune and misery... It can be hard to imagine a way to go against that. To deal with such a terrible hand. It can take a great amount of luck and a fortuitous position to just find a point from where you feel as though you can do anything...

And even that may not bear fruit for very long. Not many... can bear the burden of such a life.

[Pidge has to give a little lopsided grin at the camera, excited on Romelle's behalf. She's even kind of matching her predicament, since Rover has taken up his usual perch in the tousled nest of her hair.] Hey, good for you! I know that the Pokémon stuff can be hard to adjust to, too. Y'know, on top of the adventure aspect of it all.

It's so much to learn, Pidge. [She sighed in frustration.] I'm just glad I have some friends to help me out. Though, I guess it would have been a lot easier if I'd remembered my time here from before. [She frowned a bit.] But that's alright. It's not the end of the universe, right?

How did you handle learning all this stuff?

[pidge_out]

[She shrugs a little, idly reaching up to scritch at the top of Rover's head.] I like learning. I guess I kind of looked at it as a new challenge. We had to take in a lot of new information when we first went out into space and became Team Voltron, too. So this wasn't all that different.

[questioneverything]

[Romelle considered that for a moment. Kind of like her own situation leaving the colony with Keith and Krolia that day. She nodded.]

That's a good point. I think I understand now. It's just like when I came to the Castle that day. I'd never been off the colony before, but suddenly I was leaving and traveling in space, and going to Earth with all of you.

[She smiled a little.]

[She has to chuckle a bit at that.] Yeaaahh, that all kind of happened pretty fast, didn't it. It's kind of hard to believe it's been so long since that happened... At least for me, anyway.
