[Mikasa had been stopping with Armin on the islands for a while now. Playing with his pokemon, training her own when he was busy. But recently she'd noticed something and she wasn't even sure how to ask...

So she grabbed her gear and tried to record it.

It being her glowing Shinx. Now him glowing wasn't normally too concerning. He did that when getting ready to attack or when he was surprised. But now he was doing it while curled up in a ball and he kept doing it. Then after a few seconds of silently focusing on the cat, she spoke up.]

Does anyone have a cat like this? Is something wrong with him?

[Then his glowing brightened and- and... He vanished, leaving a larger cat in his place.]

...Where'd he go?

[He teleport?? Whose cat is this? Where is her boy?????]

Oh, he's right there! He's just evolved - he's gotten strong enough to grow up a bit, in a way.

[It doesn't escape her notice that Mikasa is like...a kid, so. Jane keeps the explanation simple.]

It happens quickly for Pokemon, like that.

[There's silence as Mikasa patted the newly grown cat. Then in complete deadpan.]

...Does that mean he's getting old?

Not...not too old? He's still exactly the same age as before, just bigger and stronger, and a bit more able to do things he might not've been able to do before.

Oh good...That means he won't die then.

[Shocked cat wailing-! But that had been Mikasa's worry, that her cat was already old and elderly.]

N...No...he's definitely not going to suddenly die of old age because he's evolved. I promise. Lots of my Pokemon have evolved and they're all perfectly fine.

Okay. I thought it was like the chickens, where they grow quickly.

[cyan_maid]

Oh, no, not at all! From what I understand, Pokemon can live for just as long as people do - sometimes longer!

... How long do people live? [Deep questions.]

That depends on the person and their lifestyle. But there's plenty of people who are native to this world who are elderly...definitely over sixty years old at a minimum.

[Sixty is a big number for a kid, right?]

Oh...Thats three times as long as Armin and he's old here... [Twenty is old for a kid.]

[H...ahah...Jane is definitely not going to mention that she's twenty-one now...]

A-ah, you know Armin?

Yeah...He's younger than me back home.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind bending down to accomodate you, if you really wanted to pat his head.

Well...I suppose carrying a stool around would be too obvious, but maybe one of your Pokemon can help you in getting high enough to do so before he notices?

[She thought about it for a moment. Pondering. Then she pointed at the Luxio who was now rolling, trying to curl up onto the chair again. But he was too big.]

He's the only one big enough.

What might he think of the idea? Of helping you be taller than Armin for a moment, that is.

I think he'd be okay... [It was kind of hard to ask, he was too busy trying to sleep again.]

Hm...maybe you can try to ask him about it when he's a bit more awake.

He's always like this...

O-Oh! Well...from experience, I know that cats do value their sleep. He's got to be more alert and awake at some point though!

Are you sure? He sleeps on my bed with me at night...

I'm sure of it. Perhaps he gets into all sorts of shenanigans when you're not looking.
