Who: Team Femblemtroika What: Halloween rolls around, and so does the anniversary of their arrival. When: October Where: Kanto (Vermillion City, and maybe others)
Blessed. He says he'd be blessed, when they are what they are, when he knows what they are (and loves them, still loves them all the same). Chip's breath hitches and they bite back a sob, clinging to Dimitri and not trusting their voice for a minute or so.
"You don't have to wear it when it gets too hot," Dimitri says, because he feels it's the proper adult thing to do. You know, make sure a child doesn't faint from heat exhaustion because they won't take off a coat. Children can be incredibly stubborn about such things.
He may or may not know this because he and Felix often do the kind of dumb shit they should have stopped doing as children.
"But that's why you can remove the sleeves, if you want." Maybe it will help. Maybe, with all the fur, it won't. Dimitri always wears his armor and cloak when traveling, so he's just succumbed to his fate. "I made it just a little bit larger than normal... I'm hoping that you'll grow into it, and be able to keep it longer."
Chip seems to be right at the age where they may start hitting some intense growth spurts... Best to be prepared. Dimitri recalls some of the newer castle tailors being quite vexed and exasperated when he and Dedue started hitting theirs, while the veterans seem merely resigned to it.
They sniffle once, rather loudly, and finally pull back to scrub at their eyes before pulling the coat on. It is indeed a bit big on them, but they don't seem to mind in the least that their hands half-disappear in the sleeves or that the hem nearly brushes against their sneakers. They hold the bright blue fabric up to look at even closer, rubbing just to feel the texture, and smiling in awe.
It's definitely a little big on them... Dimitri faintly wonders if maybe it will always be a bit big? There's nothing to say they'll grow as tall as him, or Grant, after all...
Well, too late, he supposes.
Dimitri smiles at them, his arms resting along his knees. "You look fantastic in it, Chip. Faerghus' blue fits you perfectly." This is definitely not his bias talking. "This will be good to wear when we go traveling again. Just make sure the sleeves don't get caught up in smores."
Pushing himself up, he holds out his hand to them. "I can't wait to give you your birthday present, too."
That exclamation, so shocked - Dimitri can't stop the laugh that kicks out of him, and he covers his wide grin with one hand. Not well, but, he tries.
"Of course! I told you that, didn't I?" He tilts his head to the side, eye shining fondly. "This is to celebrate a year of our meeting. I still have to celebrate your birth!"
Whoa- Dimitri laughs again as Chip leaps up on him, reaching down to grip them by the torso so that are at least a little more secure.
"I love you too," he tells them, and tries to pretend his own eye definitely isn't tearing up. "And we're going to make it a fantastic birthday! You should tell Dedue some of your favorite foods - he's the best cook in the whole world!"
"But someone has to make the cake, right?" Dimitri grins, lifting up Chip for a small toss. "So you'll have the best cake in the world!"
If they had Mercedes here, no doubt she could make it something special... She always seemed to know a great deal about sweet things, no doubt to make Annette happy to.
"But no gorging yourself until you are sick. At least, not on your birthday."
Carry them he will! Grinning widely, Dimitri wraps his arms tight around them, and starts to wiggle them in his grasp, swaying his body in all sorts of directions. Children must be properly wiggled!! This is a fact that Dimitri has learned as a truth of the world.
"A giant tiered cake!" Dimitri agrees, and laughs loud enough to probably be heard down the street. "And we'll make sure to eat it right in front of Felix!"
Who will either not care, or just give that glower of his because he knows exactly what kind of nonsense they're up to.
"You will get so many presents... And it is towards the end of the month!" He spins around - more wiggles for the child. "You would be a harvest baby, back in Faerghus!"

(They don't have the perspective yet to realize why this feels so important, but maybe one day they'll look back and be able to understand.)
But for now they jump up to hug Dimitri again, leaving them dangling a bit over the ground. "Love you!!"

Because Dimitri says so. This is not bias.

"The biggest cake! And Felix can't have any of it!!" See, it's funny because Felix hates cake, so--
