4th Sacrament - Lyra

[ For the first time, Walter is in charge of the Gear, rather than it being in the paws of his various Pokemon. While he appears calm and stoic, there's a certain air of nervousness in addressing the network openly. On his shoulder Darkness the Murkrow perches, shaking his tail feathers and preening his feathers. Someone wants to look nice for some reason. ]

...Who is Lyra? [ On cue, Darkness pipes up, crooning the name as smoothly as a bird can in human speech. ] Lyra! Lyra! [ ...until Walter presses a finger on his beak and he obediently shuts up. For the moment. ]

I permit my Murkrow to fly freely around the city, with strict orders to return by sunrise. Lately, he has learned to say this name and repeats it constantly. So who is Lyra? [ On his shoulder, Darkness merely begins to tweet a small tune...with 'Lyra!' added among the typical bird chirps. Walter merely glances from the bird to the camera. Thank you for proving his point, Darkness. ]

Maybe your bird's got himself a girlfriend! It's kind of cute that he can say her name, I mean, my little buddies can only say their own name!

[ But Hana is correct, as Darkness happily sings to his love! If they could understand 'Pokemon' talk, they would be treated to Darkness' prose about his 'feather of the night sky', Lyra. Alas, all they hear are chirps and...Lyra. ]

Darkness is the only Pokemon of mine who speaks.

Well, I mean some animals create bonds or mate for life or what ever. I figure pokemon can do the same thing. We've got breeders around here too so maybe he just found a cute bird and fell head over heals!

Maybe you could help them out! Take 'em on little playdates.

...I don't know who Lyra is. If it is his intended mate, then I still don't know where it lives or who it's trainer is.

[ Darkness himself is not giving details. Otherwise he wouldn't be asking the network this question. On his shoulder, Darkness waves his tail-feathers about and holds himself up, clearly intending to look good for this Lyra. ]

Well I figure if you're asking, someones probably bound to respond. Or you could spend a day following Darkness around and see where he goes?

If someone's got a Lyra around maybe they even know Darkness if he's visiting often?

[Gosh this is like some fairytale.] Maybe you should get him some accessories to help him out. A bandana or a bowtie! Make him look schnazzie!

[Surely there are plenty of Pokemon with that name...but, well, the fact that it's another Murkrow repeating the name is what gives Envy pause. He recognizes this man, vaguely, from that festival over the summer...but doesn't connect him with the serial killer who's had the house up in arms.]

What city has your bird been flying all over, exactly?

I might have an idea.

[Lyra has been taking especially good care of her feathers lately...and demanding more glitter than usual.]

I am currently in Goldenrod City, near the Radio Tower. I do not think Darkness could fly beyond it and return in a single day, but I haven't tested his flight speed.

[ He vaguely recognises Envy, but still has no idea who Henry's friends are or what they look like, aside from Heather (the Heretic). Darkness knows Envy lives at Shark House but doesn't have a way to communicate that to Walter, and wouldn't do so unless specifically asked. So instead the Murkrow preens himself a little more; if Envy's on the screen, there's a chance Lyra might appear! He has to look as good for her. ]

Well, that's where I am. And I don't know for sure, but I do have a Murkrow named Lyra.

He sure sounds like he's after a member of his own species, the way he's saying it.

[God damn it Lyra, they really don't have the time for you to be carrying on some weird illicit bird romance.]

[ Walter turned to Darkness, noticing the increased preening. They might as well find out for certain before deciding what to do with the two...lovebirds. ]

Is Lyra with you? He will probably react if she is on screen.

Yeah, she should be around here somewhere. Give me a second.

[He gets to his feet; he was sitting on the couch in the living room, but the way he's holding the camera, Walter won't be able to really get much of a look at the inside of the house as Envy walks out the back door and into the yard. He though he saw her out here earlier...he lets out a whistle that's more to maybe get her attention than actually call her. Lyra does what she wants.]

Lyra! Lyra, if you're out here come over here! Some other bird wants to see you!

[A slightly-shimmery black head immediately pops out of the leaves of the nearest tree. Could it be? Is it her wonderful Darkness looking for her over the human machines? She flies right on down and perches on Envy's shoulder, leaning to get a glimpse.]

I have. He doesn't know enough English to explain. [ Well. Walter had questioned Darkness and the Murkrow had only watched him, bobbing from side to side as if debating on explaining, before merely singing the name again. ]

He lead me in circles. His species are infamous for guiding others down paths to purposefully get them lost. He has yet to do that to me but it seems he won't deny his nature.

[ Darkness is a strange little bird; serious in nature but mischievous when he chose to be. Evidently this was one of the topics he chose to be a troublemaker over. ]

[It's pretty weird for a Pokemon to be saying something that isn't its name, or so he's found, but he has heard of birds mimicking sounds.]

Are you certain it's a name? He could be trying to say something else, or just making noises that aren't actually words.

[ Walter's not impressed at the implication that he's an idiot who doesn't understand his Pokemon. But his face remains placid as he turns to Darkness. When he speaks to him, Darkness replies in very clear English. ]

[ Darkness bobs his head at the last question, shaking his tail feathers from side to side. There's a mischievous glint in the bird's eye as he doesn't answer, returning to preening himself. ]

[The manner in which the Trainer-Pokemon conversation is carried out certainly rubs Anders the wrong way, but if the stranger is trying to get a rise out of him, he'll have to try harder.]

I will not force him to obey me. But I still want to know who Lyra is, which is why I made this call.

[Based on how Walter talks about him, it sounds like they've been together for a while. Do some Pokemon really disobey their trainers for such a long time?]
