video; no one sets a trap like a rogue

[HEY SO, REMEMBER THAT GUY WHO FELL OUT OF A TREE TRYING TO CATCH A SPINARAK?

He's back. And he's holding up a large sheet of paper with what looks like a fairly functional trap on it, to be constructed from objects easily bought at one's local pokemart and hardware store.

(The other guy, the one who filmed him previously, is lurking in the background, his mouth a tight line.)]

So! I believe we have all seen the messages from the fellow in the cape, yes? My associate and I are in Cherrygrove and we have drawn up a plan to trap one of the creatures, but alas, we are both new to this world and our own magical creatures are weak in comparison to the birds--and my friend has been robbed of his powers and I myself have lost all my magical items and weapons. While we can trap it, I doubt we will be able to subdue it--and so it is that we are asking for aid!

Once it has been trapped, we intend to present it for the reward. Although they are magnificent creatures--indeed, I would want one of my own!--profit as always comes first.

[So... any takers? Given that the 25k reward is individual, this is quite frankly a 'the more the merrier' situation.]

This reply opens with... is that a thumb? That's probably his thump. Something big and blurry covering one side of the image. Fortunately, you can still make out Geddoe's face beyond that, and other than the stray digit in the frame it's at least not badly crooked.

"I have a few that are good against flying types, but it'd take a few days for me to get there."

By which he means, he's a few days out from the nearest city with warp pads.

"If they're as bad as that guy was making them sound, you don't want to rush in until you're ready anyway."

He's not saying they have to wait, but in his experience taking time to prepare tends to mean more than immediately racing for the goal.

Geddoe's pretty darn old himself. For a human, at least. Not so much compared to elf standards.

"Have you fought a giant angry bird before?"

He wouldn't be surprised either way, there's doubtless plenty of worlds with monsters like that. Though, also...

"Besides, even if you trap it, you'll need enough power to fight it, or there's no point."
lightningbearer: (something to say)

I'm looking at the tags to this post and just imagining the nonsense this group would have... XD

"Good."

If he might end up teaming up with some others who don't have strong enough Pokémon, at least he won't have to worry about telling them what (not) to do. Probably.

"If you're still looking for people by the time I reach the next city, let me know."

If only he had a Pokémon that knew Fly... He is keenly interested in that reward money, though.
lightningbearer: (just talking)

"All right."

And since Geddoe's not really the talkative type, he'll just leave it at that for now.

[Radley's jaw drops at this new message coming through. Okay, yeah, now he completely gets why this guy's friend was exasperated by his crazy plots.]

Yeah, sorry, I'm not loco enough to try this one. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you guys anyway. Evie's nowhere ready to take something like that on.

[Evie whimpers and hides against Radley. She hopes the Goldenrod Pokemon Center will be a safe place for them to keep hiding from the scary Pokemon.]

Right. Of course.

Count me in! My own companions aren't quite strong enough to take those beasts on, I don't think, but I may be able to help keep it grounded and make it an easier target.

[...you mean your Pokemon will help, right.]

Nothing I haven't done before, honestly!

Or clever use of those we have! Inventive application can get a man much farther than most give credit for.

You said you were in Cherrygrove, correct? I should be able to use that teleportation device in the Pokemon Center to be there as soon as you need.

[personal profile] songofthedawn 2022-03-22 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed! It's more like what I know as an 'aethernet' back home--rather than being beacons for teleportation themselves, you can hop from one to the next once the little...Gear, right, once that has been attuned to each location. Quite a relief to still have such conveniences!

Not by my experience, but I haven't been here long. With how peaceful this land is I doubt it would be a common occurrence, though.

[Shutting down aetherytes is a pain in the ass, it's not something you do lightly. G'rhyf figures more likely a natural disaster would be shutting things down than action from mankind, and there's more important things to be worrying about then.]

[Does Dimitri have feathers in his mouth? Don't worry about it.]

From my own experience with the largest of the Braviary, you will have to construct a rather durable trap... They are immensely powerful as much as they are large, and it is a trial to force them to the earth.

One of my own even indicated to me that they are actually Psychic-types as well, although I do not know the full scope of their abilities. That may prove to be somewhat difficult to deal with.
nastyboy: (Ghosts are so funny.)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-03-17 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, then they may also have ideas on how to handle your opponent, and ensure that it does not abscond.

Have you ever made traps to combat against psionic creatures?
nastyboy: (DM: Roll intimidation.)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-04-02 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dimitri has no idea who or what that is, but, well, it sounds like this guy knows what he's doing!]

Then you certainly seem to have a good deal more experience then some others here, I must say. I suppose the league should consider itself fortunate to have someone with your kind of expertise on hand.
nastyboy: (Ghosts are so funny.)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-04-08 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Are you sure it's not a kind of spice-]

[Still, ah. Well, Dimitri supposes it was obvious from the start what kind of gentleman this one was. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, really, not when profit does ensure people live.]

Private types tend to normally have their own weaknesses that one can exploit well enough on their own... and they are not normally so aggressive.

Still, that is not to say it is an impossible idea to explore, and the future, as today clearly shows, can be unexpected.

Alright, my dude. Can't say my Pokemon are too powerful since I just got here a few weeks ago, and I'm having a hard time finding a sword anywhere, but I mean...like, we can work something out, I think?
