[Closed] Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong
Who: Princess Allura, Keith, Riz Gukgak, Jane Crocker, and the Mandolorian
Where: Around Goldenrod City
When: About March 11
Summary: Happy birbday! (Aka: a race to see who tackles an eagle first and whether or not they keep it)
Rating: PG to PG-13, will warn as necessary
It’s a nice… well okay, it’s not sunny since this week has been an almost non-stop wintry mix. But at least Keith and Allura have nice, cozy rooms at the inn they’ve been staying at in Violet City—
Ah. And then the broadcast goes out. And Riz calls up Allura to see if she and Keith and help with the Braviary sitting on top of the Radio Tower. Welp… good thing this call is early in the morning, it’s going to take a few hours to get to Goldenrod, even by flying. Once they get there… well, surely things will go smoothly, right? (Allura sincerely hopes there’s cocoa after this…)

at the radio tower
Jedispace wizard skills, they'd get their asses kicked.][Fortunately, Mando is no stranger to getting his ass kicked, and he has a pretty good idea of how to bring the angry bird down to their level.]
[It doesn't take him long to scale the tower. He's lighter than normal without his armour, and quieter too, and manages to sneak up behind the Braviary. Then it's a simple enough matter to lunge out at it and grab its ankles.]
[In theory, a fully grown man clinging to its ankles should drag the bird down to the ground, right? ... right?]

Riz has been watching from the shadows, biding his time. There is nothing he can do during this phase of the battle. Sure, he could probably scale up there, maybe even easier than Mando, but then what is he going to do? Jump on the bird and force it down to the ground? That thing would just carry him away like a tasty treat.
No, as always, Riz has to be the rogue, waiting in the shadows for the right time. He's got both Nasha and Tisz out of their pokeballs --who cares about things like rules when they are dealing with a threat?-- keeping them steady with a gesture of his hand.]
Remember guys -- when he gets it low enough, tangle it up in spiderweb. It's fine if you hit Mando, he'll be okay. We gotta force it down on the ground so it's limited in what it can do.

["Should" as in "is capable of"? Possibly. "Should" as in "this is a good course of action for this scenario?" ...... Jury is out for an Empire recess.]
And by "he'll be okay," I hope you mean "he has a way to extricate himself from being tied to a large, foul-tempered, provoked bird so he won't be harmed?"

[As planned, though, Mando's weight is enough that it can't completely take off. With him clinging to its ankles, the Braviary is dragged slowly but surely towards the ground. It's not going willingly, though; once it realises what is keeping it from escaping, it shrieks and starts trying to peck and bite its tormentor. Most of its attacks strike off Mando's helmet with a comically loud booiiiiing sound, but a few manage to get through and hit his arms and shoulders. Which, it should be noted, are not encased in their usual beskar protection.]
[This might not have been one of Mando's best plans.]

Riz grabs for Allura's sleeve to get her attention.]
He's not heavy enough. Do you have any pokemon that can help weigh down that bird?
[Because none of Riz's bugs are going to make the difference here.]
no subject
[She thinks... and then shakes her head.]
The heaviest Pokémon I have on me is Glicynia, and I don't know how well she'd do at grappling here. And... well, Rainer willed me her Bewear Headbando, but he's in the PC, weak to Psychic and Flying, and I'm afraid he and his kin won't listen to me yet. Hm... Maybe Fraldor, my Luxray?
no subject
Can you get up there? You weigh at least twice what I do.
[It's not a dig at her weight, it's the factual truth.]
no subject
What?!
[Now look, Allura comes from an advanced, body positive society of size-shifters, including clothing that conforms to a wearer's physique. Fat shaming is frowned upon and certainly not used against women especially.
... That said, Allura does take a certain pride in her athletic figure, so she really REALLY hopes Riz is speaking about her muscle density.
And another thing!]
You want me to just hop onto the Braviary with Mando and do what exactly, hang on for dear life? And what do you plan to do whilst we do this?
no subject
If we don't do something, that bird is going to either gonna fly off with Mando or he'll fall. If you get up there, the two of you might be able to force it down to the ground, and my bugs can actually reach it.
no subject
[Barely. For now.]
[During an interlude in the attacks, when the Braviary is rearing back its head for another assault, Mando swings his legs forward and wraps them around the bird's ankles. Powerful core strength for the win! Now that he's holding on with his legs, which are both stronger than his arms and decidedly less pecked, Mando scales the Braviary's legs with his hands, ending up with his head close to the bird's body.]
[Which means his fists are also close to the bird's body.]
[Is it considered rude to punch a Pokemon? All innocent young charges, look away, as Mando is holding on with one arm and using the other to slug the Braviary in the gut.]
no subject
[Well... depending on whether those attacks count as Fighting or Normal, the Braviary might have a double resistance to them or be just neutral to them.
Allura gives Riz a look... then to the JSPCP-violating scene above... then back to Riz. Normally she'd suggest catching Mando with Kirlos and then blasting the now-distracted Braviary, but the Altaria is exhausted from the breakneck flight here, and there's no guarantee the Braviary will just fly off. So...]
Fine. Hopefully this Braviary has a secondary type weak to Bug. And you be careful.
no subject
Aren't bugs usually weak to flying moves...?
no subject
[Riz jerks a thumb at Nasha.]
Nasha got electric attacks, so she could probably actually do some damaging shit to it once we get it within range, but she won't last long if she actually has to take any hits.
[And here he is just going to Look at Keith. Come on, sir. Please realise your meatshield destiny here.]
no subject
Oooooor we could use a Pokémon that can withstand Flying moves and is super-effective against the type as well?
[A pop of the Pokéball, and out comes Coressa, recently evolved into a very powerful Ninetales and wearing her bronze ribbon on a gold chain.]
no subject
[Okay, not yet, but getting close. Getting pecked on his legs doesn't hurt any less than getting pecked on his arms, and this Braviary isn't pulling any punches. Fortunately, neither is Mando, and with every progress slug to the bird's gut, it loses height and gets lower and lower to the ground.]
no subject
Let's do this, then.
