Oh? Do you believe there is something strange behind the appearances of the Joys? And the Jennies? I just suspected that the family resemblance was strong. Would you care to enlighten me?
People keep chalking it up to a family resemblance and I don't know what families look like where you are from, but where I am from, they don't consist of all the exact same person. If it was an actual family, you'd expect a be a bigger range in ages and looks. Where are the old Joys? Or the super young Jennies? What about males? Like, this family has never produced a son?
And, actually, lets for a moment pretend that they are just a family -- Isn't it still super fucking suspicious that these two cornerstones of society are only staffed by members of two families? Like, nobody else in this whole world wants to join the police or become a nurse? That doesn't track. You only get something like this if you are specifically barring other people from entering these professions. Which, again, is really fucking suspicious.
I haven't looked into the Joys as much yet, but I broke into one of the Jenny stations and there was literally nothing there. And I don't mean nothing suspicious. I mean there was nothing there. No evidence, no in-progress case files, no completed cases. Just stacks and stacks of onboarding guides and nothing else. I don't know what they are doing, but it is definitely not investigating crimes.
[Even though he can't be seen, he's nodding along. It was sort of peculiar that the women in charge DID bare a completely uncanny similarity to one another. Even down to some of the minor details. Whoever this was had a completely fair point.]
While I do not approve of such methods, I see that you are dedicated to finding the truth of the matter. I'm rather impressed.
It does sound like this may be a front of some description, and could make sense as to why organizations like Team Rocket are allowed to thrive. Before one can make any accusations, there would be more evidence required. Even so, I think your pursuit of the matter is in the right and deserving of more attention.
I do stress that perhaps you find more upstanding methods of investigation, if possible. [Honestly? He's just typing this to cover his own ass. He probably would have helped this individual break in. He's not one to stand up for corruption.]
How else are you going to investigate the people who'd normally be in charge of investigating crimes? It's not like they are going to investigate themselves. Should we just sit by and do nothing while they do who knows what because we don't want to be impolite? Besides, this sort of thing is my job. Both as an adventurer and a licensed private investigator.
[Okay, technically not an adventurer just yet, as he is still just going to school to become one. But he has one quest under his belt already and is on another, so he's basically adjacent to official adventurer status anyway.]
I don't really care what the people in this world think of me. They kidnapped all of us. I'm gonna find my way home and if I need to break a few of their laws finding it, I don't give a single shit.
[WELL. That is quite the language. Hershel takes a minute to ponder his next move, as he seems to have struck a cord. That wasn't his intention. He has to remember this person isn't Luke. He has no authority over this person and most likely should retract.]
Are you so certain it's them that kidnapped us? I hear tell that most people speculate it has something to do with a Legendary Pokèmon by the name of Arceus. Do you have evidence to the contrary?
To be honest, I don't know. Could be a pokemon. Could be a person or a group. Which is why I am investigating anything suspicious. And those Joys and Jennies definitely look suspicious. Even if they aren't connected with whoever brought us here, probably someone should look into them anyway.
You have a solid point. I myself am planning on investigating the ruins for that very same reason. I've heard tell that there may be connections between the Alph Ruins and Arceus. If I am to believe heresay, then I do not believe there is a coincidence in my interest in the site. I am planning to do more research before I go poking my head in somewhere that it does not belong, but I believe my lead is strong.
I would be interested in hearing more of your thoughts on the subject. I would also like to apologize for stepping on any toes.
[Riz had heard a bit about the ruins, but he hadn't actually ever investigated them himself. When he had first arrived here, he had been so focused on getting to Goldenrod and netting himself a job in miss Jane's employ, that he hadn't really thought about those ruins too much. And then there had been the Jenny business and Team Rocket and it had fallen to the wayside.]
Do you want some help investigating those ruins? I've got pretty powerful pokemon if there is something dangerous lurking inside and I aced my trap detection classes.
[Well! That was certainly a change in tune. The Professor is rather surprised, but absolutely not one to turn away any help.]
Yes, I would most certainly appreciate that. I am new here, and therefore am not quite the strongest trainer as you can imagine. While I was quite the prestigious archeologist back home, once again my credentials do not transfer over here, and I have had a hard time convincing the local group to allow me deeper into the caves. If you are indeed serious, perhaps you and I could meet up to discuss our means of attack in regards to gaining further access.
[There is an unspoken, but rather evident "by LEGAL means" in his response.]
[Riz might be quick to annoyance, but his anger rarely lingers.
And seeing as Layton left 'by legal means' unspoken, that means Riz can handily ignore the implication. Sometimes you have to live a little.]
Okay. I'll be bringing someone along if you don't mind. We're travelling together. I'm not sure what kind of experience Mando has with ruins, but he's strong at least?
[You know, in case they need someone to push open a heavy door. Or carry the bags.]

[Like really, finding the truth was one thing, shooting yourself in the foot was another.]
Furthermore, does your license even hold up here? My credentials as a archeology professor certainly don't seem to.

I'm happy to meet you wherever. I myself have been frequenting the library and the cafés in search for the best cup of tea.

Where all the way over in Olivine.
But I can drop you a line when we get there.
