Pokémon can and do prey on each other, but outside of your Slowpoke Tails and Chansey Eggs, the locals tend to freak at the idea of them as a food source. So either there are other animals we just never see, or there's something bigger going on behind the scenes.
Why the hell would they freak out over eating animals? That's just nature, isn't it? I mean, meat trees sounds way more disturbing than just frying up a pidgey.

We aren't allowed to carry weapons, but we can train dragons to breathe fire at people. Pokémon are put on this weird pedestal where we can't endanger them, but they can endanger us.
