Who: Athena (
kissmyaspis) and Handsome Jack (
thedifferencebetween)
Where: Goldenrod City; Jack's place
When: October 16th
Summary: Jack messed with Athena's friend. Athena gets some payback.
Rating: I'm gunna say high PG-13 because the Borderlands nuts are getting violent.
Log:
[Before the light of the fast-travel even completely fades, Athena is off, without any goodbye to Rhys as he set up her destination. Her anger at seeing what Jack had done to Tim had been simmering under her skin since she'd dragged Tim back to the inn in Ecruteak City, and now that she's here, on Jack's turf, so close to that bastard... it's flaring up, practically burning to the point where she wouldn't be surprised if her anger was forming a damn aura around her.
She didn't ask Rhys for an address, or even any sort of vague directions, but that was okay. Athena was nothing if not methodical when it came to hunting down her enemies (Cassius had just gotten lucky to escape her tracking okay), and the longer it took to track him down, the more time she had to run scenarios in her head. All sorts of things she could do to Jack without needing any of her weapons...
She spent most of the day wandering around the residential areas of the city, but eventually, she pauses in front of one particular building: gaudy, bright yellow and bold black house. It might as well have a neon sign flashing HYPERION on it, so that's as good a place as any to check out. So first she scans the front, waiting for any sort of hint that her target might be inside. When she gets no results from that, she approaches, eyeing the windows. Are they unlocked. Should she break one of them? No, he'll notice something's up.... maybe she should go around back...]

[There's a Trubbish hanging around the backdoor. At Athena's approach, she knocks on the door three times, and in a moment it pops open. There's a collared Meowth on the other side. Cattrap's being helpful!]
[The Trubbish is sure that this strange human is here to (hopefully) put her so-called trainer (the man has never made any attempt to claim her or train her) in his place. Which he needs to be. Of course, if she had any idea just what was in store, she may not have been so quick to let Athena in.]
[As is, she simply assumes her Trainer is in for an embarrassing and unpleasant experience. A broken nose, maybe a few busted ribs...]
[She stands aside and eyes Athena, waiting to see if the woman will enter. Cattrap simply assumes anyone coming to visit is supposed to be here. And he knows he's seen Trainer talking to this woman on the gear before! Obviously she's a friend, come to say hello!]

Before she heads inside, she taps a ball on her belt, Cerberus popping out in a burst of light and falling into place right at Athena's heel. He gives a warning growl at the two pokemon by the door, but doesn't move to attack without orders.
Yeah, she'll go along with you two for now, but that doesn't mean she completely trusts you guys. Just making sure she has a little added protection!]

[The rest of the Handsome Cats are roaming the city, they'll be back after dark. None of Jack's other Pokemon are out - Doom Boner is with him, out on errands for the afternoon.]
[It appears as though Athena's welcome to wait, unbothered.]

But on the other hand, this isn't just some job she's taking for the money and the thrill. There's something more important behind this confrontation, so it really doesn't matter if getting in here is easy or not. All that matters is getting face-to-face with Jack.
So, after recalling Cerberus back to his ball, Athena does a quick sweep of the house, making sure there aren't any unpleasant surprises waiting to be sprung on her. And then she waits.
It'll be easy, to go undetected for at least those first few seconds after Jack walks through the door. Stay away from the windows, stay in the shadows. It'll only work for a few seconds, but a few seconds is all she'll need...]

[His arrival isn't a quiet one. He's talking as he comes up his walk, chattering away to Doom Boner. His keys jingle in his hand. It's been a good day, so far. His ridiculous card business is actually churning a profit. For a cover business, it's surprisingly successful.]
I forget what the hell we're paying 'Laura, but we oughtta up it. That girl...best move I've made here, putting her in charge of all the artsy stuff.
[He swings open the door as he talks, the puppy waddling in ahead of him as he sorts through his mail. It's an oddly deceptive image, a man and his dog coming home like anybody. Like a perfectly normal man who hasn't brutally tortured people he claims as friends. He kicks the door shut behind him, his attention for the moment on his mail.]
Hey, coupon book from that coffee place I like, sweet.

Jack will barely have time to register the feeling of a hand grabbing a fistful of his hair before he's spun around and slammed hard into the door he just closed.
Normally, she'd have some sort of one-liner before she started attacking, but. This isn't one of her normal missions. She's not in the mood for snarky quips, nope.]

[Jack's warning senses start tingling just a few seconds before hes being grabbed and propelled into his front door. He lets out an inarticulate growl, flailing his arms wildly and trying to dig his heels into his carpet. What the hell is happening?]
[It really shouldn't surprise him when he's twisted about and there's that crazy ass gladiator. He'd always felt safe in the idea she'd never make good on any of her threats, never actually come after him. It would be stupid. It would be especially stupid to do it in his own home, where evidence would be left.]
[But here she is, in his god damned living room, hands on him already.]
[While Jack's not one to react well when panic and fear kick in, Jack's not alone. Fat and lazy though he is, Doom Boner is loyal to a fault, and does his best to defend his Trainer. Which mostly amounts to desperately trying to jump at Athena's legs while making exceptionally distressed sounds and burping smoke.]

And as for Jack...
Well. There was a reason she had such a reputation when they first met. She always made good on her threats, even if it took some time in some cases. The amount of Atlas employees left on Pandora could certainly attest to that. But in this case, there had been several things stopping her - no easy access to his location, for one. No knowledge of any security measures he might have in place, not knowing the extent of his allies, no trigger...
But that last one. Ohhhh that last one was all that was needed to get her to move. So fuck any hesitation because of lack of information. And being in his house now... it makes her feel stupid for worrying about anything.]
No security systems at all? Really? [Her voice is practically a growl as she braces herself against his struggling, pressing his face into the door so hard that his nose is probably hurting pretty bad now...] Your paranoia is losing its edge, Jack.
no subject
[He honestly hadn't. And the doors were locked, properly latched...how the hell much else security did he need here? Apparently a great deal, because jeezus christ, Athena is practically grinding his face against his door.]
[He shoves back with his shoulders, recovering from the shock and panic of being ambushed like this.]
[Doom Boner continues his ineffective attempts to help. After rumbling over and rolling a few feet...]
no subject
Yeah?
[Another slam against the door, and an arm - the one covered in armor, to prevent him from biting or scratching - presses against his throat. It's not enough to choke him, but it'll make struggling a bit difficult.]
You really thought you'd be able to just get away with what you did?
no subject
[That's not calculated denial in Jack's voice, but honest confusion. What the hell is she talking about? He's left her alone! He hasn't been saying anything to Angel that could possibly warrant this kind of response - things were pretty okay, if strained, there.]
[But here she is, half strangling him - ugh, with a forearm trachea push, that's not even a sexy or elegant stranglehold - and screaming at him over what he supposedly did.]
[He squirms, though, not stupid enough to try and pull her arm off. He'd probably mess his hands all up. But boy does he kick out at her.]
I haven't done a friggin thing! I've been doing my own shit!

As fast as a snakebite and with the power of a speeding truck, Athena's fist lashes out, connecting hard with the side of Jack's face. That's when she finally lets go of him, and takes one step back as he topples to the floor.]
I know you're used to spewing bullshit to everyone you meet on this planet, but you should know you can't lie to me. I know what you did, Jack.
no subject
Holy shit, I'm glad you do, 'cause I sure don't!
[His face has lost a good deal of sensitivity, thanks to the vault mark and the mask, but it's not completely dead. And the punch hurts. He rubs his jaw and looks up at her, only incomprehension and a sort of frantic panic in his eyes.]
Swear on my daughter's life, Athena, I don't have any idea why you're punching me!
no subject
A small (or at least she'll try and say it's only small) part of her isn't just lashing out at him for Tim at that comment. Jack mentioning Angel like that makes something unpleasant bubble inside of her, and she doesn't quite understand why.]
You don't think what you did to your doppleganger is important enough to remember?
no subject
[Jack snatches his hand back with a hiss of pain, staring up at Athena slack jawed.]
What the hell do you care about that? That was...that's what I pay him for! Literally!
[She's acting like he'd just tortured the guy for the hell of it, or something! Which also wouldn't be any of her business. She worked with the guy once, years ago. Jack was his boss, his friend. This was between them. Just like it had been back home, when everything had gone just fine.]
And it's...it's not like it isn't gonna happen to him when he goes home, 'cause it already did. And he was fine. Christ!
no subject
A steel-toed boot, to be more specific.]
So it looks like I'll have to pay you back twice as hard. Wonderful.
[Athena isn't really aware that she dodged Jack's question. It's just... knowing that he's done this to Tim before, that this poor guy in some other point in time had to suffer again... it caused one of the few rapidly-fraying strings inside of her to snap.]
