Things Keldor is not doing yet: going on ~~Careless~~ Cara Liss' magical mystery tour back into the past. A shame he's not yet, really. Time travel is a doable thing [very rarely done, but doable] in Eternia, meaning he'd be one of the few who will take it well and might actually enjoy it.

Really, it'll be cool to experience when he does get snagged up, but, well... We've got other things we want to do first. Backdate-y things.

Things Keldor is currently doing before Hilarity Hits: trying to keep his recently-acquired Growlithe egg warm. This would be a whole lot easier if he had his magic, but he doesn't, which means making do. He's currently on Route 30, somewhere between Cherrygrove and Violet, and has got a fire going at the moment, where he has a bunch of stones encircling it to heat up. Once they're hot enough, they're placed around the egg using tongs [because it's that or third degree burns when you're magicless]. Gingko, watching all this, seems to have remembered that he's a bird, and is doing his best to help, but he's only half the size of the egg and can only warm so much of it up. Momiji the Sentret and Ganpi the Scatterbug are doing their best to assist, but those stones are hot, and, well. Bug pokemon and fire. You know how well the two go together, but A for effort on Ganpi's part.

Judging from the looks of things, and the fact he's been at this for a few days, it shouldn't be much longer before the egg hatches and everyone can say "hello".

That just earns an annoyed grimace from Geddoe as he thinks back on it.

"Long story." Some parts of which he has no intention of mentioning. "I needed a break before I use the warp pad again, so I went for a walk."

And for someone as used to travelling on foot as he is, a few miles or so most definitely constitutes a 'short' walk, especially if he has a few hours to kill. And once he was already out and about..

"When I saw a fire up the road I went to go see what was going on."

So, mostly coincidental timing. These things happen.

Keldor nods, appreciating the fact that someone—a human, specifically—actually gave enough of a damn to investigate. Maybe not to see if he was alright, or even if anyone was alright—perhaps there was a fire that needed to be dealt with in order to not cause a disaster, but still. The concern is appreciated.

But...

"'Warp pads'?"

Now you have his interest.

"Teleportation is possible here?"

Oh, he needs to see this!

"Yeah. The Pokémon Centers in the cities have pads that connect to ones in other cities." Geddoe's tone is highly matter-of-fact.

"You can only use the ones you've already visited, though."

Don't ask him why, he doesn't know. It's kind of inconvenient.

Still... Teleportation is a doable here.

It's also a concept he's familiar with.

"It is easier and safer to teleport to a location you have been to before, as opposed to one you have never visited. And requires less concentration. I believe the same principle is in effect with these warp pads."

"Could be." Geddoe shrugs. He doesn't know how the whole thing works--heck, he's not exactly well-versed in teleportation magic back home, even though it does exist there.

"Still means you have to walk to the next city if you haven't been there yet."

"Yes, well. Walking is not so bad. At least until I can procure a method that halves the time required to cover the walking distance if not the distance itself."

And that's where the Growlithe egg comes in.

Can't use your old steed, so befriend a new one.

Which he has ample time to do, since he burned ~~hee!~~ through most of his money in getting the egg.

"I hear some of the flying ones can learn a move that lets them carry you."

He's yet to explore that option, himself. Partly a lack of qualifying flying types, partly just, well. He knew a dragon knight or two back home, and has a good appreciation for how easy it is to get airsick if one isn't used to it...

Flying is not something that bothers Keldor very much. Not that he did much of it after being banished, but he's been airborne before.

"That should prove useful." Pause, remembering what was just said, "Is it like these warp pads?"

He knows the answer to this is likely to be "yes". Easier to fly to someplace you've been than to somewhere you've never gone to before and all.

"I haven't tried it, but probably not."

As far as he's aware, riding a Pokémon around is basically the same as walking, just faster. He could be wrong, of course, but from what he's heard that seems to be the case.

At any rate, using pokemon as a means of travel will make things a whole lot easier once they're big enough to carry people around.

"Will this one become big enough to fly me anywhere?"

He's asking about the Rowlet.

"Hmm..."

Geddoe thinks about it, but ultimately just has to shrug.

"Could be. I don't know what all the different kinds can do, though."

It ultimately depends on the size of the pokemon itself, he figures. He's not exactly short. And if the final form is small, he might end up being too big a burden to carry.

"If it cannot bear me, then it will not be a problem. I will not ask it to do something that would cause it harm when I know that the creature this egg will produce will get larger in time."

And with enough money to pay for its evolution. That, too.
