First Lost Friend | Radley, OTA

((I got permission from Levi's player to post this. I could have added it to the other Hisuian post for Radley, but I kind of felt like it needed its own post. Radley would be devastated for this to happen at any time, but it's even harder in Hisui, when it's harder to know what happened since the PokeGears aren't working and most Pokemon are back in Johto.))

Summary: Radley has never lost a friend in Pokemon land before. He wasn't expecting his first time would be here in Hisui.

[At first Radley isn't too worried when he doesn't see Levi around. He's probably out gathering or scouting. But when Radley realizes Levi's Hisuian starter Pokemon is here, he starts to worry. He roams the camp and then all the surrounding area, calling for him while Lily accompanies him and calls as well.

He's sick with worry. Where could he be? Is he hurt? Did something attack him?

It doesn't occur to him for some time that maybe Levi has been sent back to his own world. For some reason, he didn't think that would happen here, while they're trapped in the past. But when he finally begins to think about this possibility, he grips the nearest tree and then sinks to his knees. Maybe he'll never know for sure. Does anyone ever know for sure? He seems to remember being told about some indications of it back in Johto when he first came back in February, but here ... can they really know? And no matter where it happened, there's no closure. He talked to Levi while they were here in Hisui, thinking they'd talk again, and now ...

He hadn't really thought too hard about how it would feel to lose someone in this world. He hadn't wanted to think about it. If Levi is gone, this is the first time he's lost a friend here. Those who have been here longer have no doubt already gone through it multiple times, but it's a new crushing blow to him. The only comforts he really has in Hisui are Lily and knowing everyone is all together. He already wondered if Lily would be taken from him, and now there's no guarantee of everyone staying together lasting either.

Will Levi be happy going home? Radley doubts he'll ever see him again. And ...

He looks sick as something else dawns on him. If they all get home to Johto, and everyone's reuniting, and then Levi's poor Pokemon realize he isn't coming ...

Radley picks up Lily and cries.

He has to get back to his. The thought of Evie and Cosmo and all the others seeing reunions and Radley isn't there is too crushing to think about. He has to get home to them....

He draws a shaking breath and gets up. Will Levi's other friends have figured out he might have been sent back? Maybe he needs to check on them....

He holds Lily close as he heads back towards the camp.]

Back in my world, I am, I mean, was a wizard so using wands is a common thing for many British wizards and witches. They are very handy in casting spells to get the effects we wish to happen.

(He knows that spilling about magic would have gotten him in trouble like how using magic as a minor got him in a similar situation. But with how weak his magic has become in this world, he feels that there is no point in hiding that fact for long.)

Magic does exist in my world, but I don’t feel it being very strong in here.

Ah, I see. I wasn't sure if wands were actually used in real-life or if that was an invention for fictional media.

[For that matter, he isn't sure he believed in magic before either, but it's apparently real.]

... So you're from Earth? I wonder if we're from the same one. I've been told there's multiples.

To be fair, most normal people in my world either tend to ignore the existence of magic or think of it as fictional most of the time.

(He is slowly beginning to feel less gloomy as they continue their way to base camp, perhaps it is actually refreshing to let out the grief and sorrow by talking to someone instead of hiding it altogether.)

Why yes, I’m also from Earth too. Maybe we do hail from the same exact Earth after all. That would be pretty brilliant.

That sounds familiar.

[He's happy to have someone to talk to as well, although he continues to worry.]

It would be! I haven't met too many that I'm sure are from mine. Have you heard of Duel Monsters? It's a card game. It's kind of a brutal name, but it's a really interesting strategy game.

Um, I don’t know if I have ever played it before. Because I had a tight schedule with school, I barely had time to unwind and play card games that frequently. Though we do play some chess from time to time.

But I wouldn’t mind learning how to play it once we return to the modern times.

I get that. Hey, chess is cool too.

I'd be happy to teach you.

[He smiles, grateful his deck hadn't been on him in this trip. Otherwise, it might have been destroyed.]

Oh yes, that would be wonderful. I want to play catch up with the things I would have never consider trying out now that I got all the free time to do them.

That's a good goal. I was planning to try some new things too, before I ended up in Johto. Then I was planning some more and ended up here.

[He chuckles.]

Your Pokemon seem excited to help.

They are definitely a helpful and friendly bunch. Both of them are pretty eager to help me out to be a good trainer and friend, even if I might make more mistakes than I intend to.

(Lily couldn’t help but to do the Rowlet equivalent of a playful chuckle while his Eevee cheerfully chimes in. Then he realizes that he almost forgets one more thing.)

Oh my, I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Harry, Harry Potter. But just Harry will be fine. I’m originally from the English county of Surry, but I was at my old school in Scotland before Hisui.

The flying owl is named Lily, she is my Rowlet starter. And the cute little Eevee is Violet, I actually found her while me and Lily were gathering leeks a few hours ago. I honestly don’t know where she came from or how she came into my sight, but she is just as adorable like Lily.

Your Pokemon sure are cute! We'll have to be careful we don't confuse them; mine is Lily too!

[He smiles at Violet.]

One of my Eevees in Johto showed up like that. My Espurr too.

[He misses them so much.]

Oh don’t worry about it, Radley. We can make mistakes over which Lily is which sometimes. Funnily enough, my Lily was actually named after my mum, her name was also Lily.

(Oh, so Radley was originally from America? That sounds like an interesting place: he had heard about the country from time to time, despite its very awkward past with the UK in the 18th Century that is.)

Ee-vui-vui! Eevui! Ee!

That’s pretty amazing! I haven’t been to California or Oregon before. Is it weird for me to admit that I never left the United Kingdom for my entire life until now?

Really? That's really special.

[Radley smiles.]

I have a Pokemon named after someone special to me too.

["Eevee-vee!" says Lily.]

Nah, I'm sure there's a lot of people who haven't left their homeland. I've been to Spain to see relatives, but aside from that I've mostly stayed in America.

Why thanks Radley. Just naming one Pokémon after someone I know from home is a nice way to honor their memory.

(He is tempted to say that he wasn’t able to have any living parents since he was a baby, but now is not the right now to discuss it. He couldn’t help looking at how much fun his team is having with Radley’s team.)

Well, that is good to know that I may not be the only one who has never travelled far away from before. Maybe by the time we return to Jotho, I might get started in exploring the region first and see what kind of Pokémon that they have. It actually reminds me of a subject that I used to take in my school.

It is.

[Radley does take that to mean that she's dead, but he doesn't press. He smiles at the Pokemon too.]

Johto's a pretty fascinating place. What school subject was that?

Something that the wizards in my country call Care for Magical Creatures. We would get to learn about many magical creatures that live in my world and how to interact with them, handle them carefully, and care for them. One of my older friends used to teach it himself: he is a really great with animals of a magical nature and keeps plenty of them as companions.

That sounds neat. I guess magical creatures have some different needs than other animals, even though they probably have a lot of the same ones too.

I am thinking the same way as well. I do hope that what I have learned in there can translate into raising Pokémon as I continue on into my journey in this world.

(Hagrid would be proud of him if he applies everything he has taught him in Hogwarts even when placed onto other worlds. It would be a shame if he doesn’t take those lessons and experiences he has in befriending creatures with the half giant to heart.)

I'm sure it'll be a big help. So are you planning to be a Trainer or a Breeder?

(It doesn’t take long for Harry to come up with a good answer. He may not be allowed to use magic in this world, but he can get his team into a good shape and overcome challenges together.)

I’m going to take the Trainer route. I guess that I just like wanting to help my Pokémon to become a great team.

That's great. I can't get into the battling aspect, but I do appreciate the teamwork. Mine have become a pretty close-knit family. I hope they're being able to help each other through me not being there....
