We may be dreams apart
Who: Ryner, his Hisuian Growlithe, and whoever
Where: Hisui, largely the Base Camp and Obsidian Fieldlands
When: whenever in July, really
Summary: It's yet another catch all log! Current prompts include grumbling while gathering resources, basic cartography, and snoozing in odd places, but go with your heart.
Rating: Shouldn't go higher than PG, but I'll edit if that changes. Also I will match your style.
Log:
.I. - Resource Gathering
"Rose is probably pissed, isn't she..."
Ryner's in the middle of the woods at the moment, doing some mushroom gathering. He is, of course, paying close attention to his surroundings, to make sure he and his partner Growlithe don't get jumped by any unexpected wild Pokemon as they search for their quarry, but, well, Ryner is Ryner.
And Ryner copes by complaining.
"I mean, the others are probably worried too, but most of them are a lot more reasonable than she can get sometimes. And this is the first time she's been away from me for even half this long since the day we met."
It's not like he's yelling or anything, but he's not exactly trying for stealth either, even as he bends down to pluck a mushroom from beneath a tree and inspect it. This is the right type, right?
He turns as he hears the padding of cheerful paws coming over - looks like his partner Growlithe has retrieved a mushroom as well. He gratefully takes the mushroom from its jaws and adds it to the collection before idly asking, "Do you think Rose will use Thunderbolt first, or Ice Beam? Ahh, I doubt she'll hit me with Flamethrower unless we're out by the pond, she knows better than that..."
"Grow?" The Growlithe tilts its head with a wag of its tail. Is everything okay?
.II. - An Attempt At Cartography
Ignoring the situation that led everyone here, this is a pretty nice place. A nice river, some nice woods, very little in terms of human settlement. At night, the stars are more vibrant than he's seen in years, too - even Ecruteak has some light pollution.
That said, Ryner is certain that he's never seen any records of any of this in any book he's looked through in the past decade. And he's a bit of a bookworm. But, annoyance at the universe once again conspiring to add new locations out of the blue aside...
If the records don't exist, he'll just have to make them and bring them back himself (working under the assumption that this is temporary and they'll eventually make it back, but if that doesn't happen he knows Rose will kill him, so). So that's why he's out by the riverside near camp today, notebook and pen in hand, attempting to start a basic map of the area, as well as taking assorted notes.
Anything is more than nothing, after all.
His Growlithe companion trots cheerfully at his side, keeping an eye out for wild Pokemon and otherwise enjoying the breeze.
.III. - Afternoon Naps
If you're about in or around base camp at the height of the mid-afternoon sun, you might come across an interesting sight.
Namely, you might find Ryner, asleep, in any number of odd places.
Maybe he's taking a nap on a conveniently-placed boulder, or under a tree, or possibly in a tree. But there he is, just taking a nap in a random place. (If he's on the ground, his Growlithe partner is probably curled up next to him.)
Do you wake him up? Chastise him for slacking off? Prank him? That's up to you, he's asleep and can't stop you.
.IV. - Wildcard

1.
"If this goes on too long, won't she realize everybody's gone and that you didn't deliberately go away?"
He had at least hoped his Pokemon would know he would never leave them on purpose. They wouldn't hurt him when he finally got back, would they?
no subject
(The violence is just a Rose thing, because Ryner's luck with female friends apparently applies to Pokemon as well.)
no subject
Lily rubs him comfortingly.
no subject
"Ahh, well, I mean... Most Pokemon are pretty smart, right?" he tries to lighten things. "So once we make it back and they know what happened, they'll probably forgive everyone. So all we've gotta do is hang in there until the people who have an idea of how to fix this... do that."
Not that he has much faith in Cara Liss, honestly, but she's what they've got.
no subject
Radley sighs sadly and picks up Lily. "I wish some of our tech-oriented people could get to the machine. They could probably fix it up much faster."
no subject
Not seeing any more mushrooms immediately, he reaches down to give his Growlithe a scritch, which is accepted happily. "But hey, most Pokemon aren't as stubborn as Rose, and honestly I can probably buy her forgiveness with a dango party if I'm quick enough, so..."
no subject
He blinks in confusion. "Dango?"
no subject
"They're dumplings, made from rice flour, usually served on a skewer. I made the mistake of introducing Rose to them years ago, and now they're her favorite snack."
It wasn't a mistake, not really, but that's Ryner for you.

Only one hop in the teleporter, or just a few days' walk, less as the Noctowl flies.
"Next time you're in town, come by the Collegiate Gym and I can show you some places."
no subject
And then he feels melancholy, wondering if there will be such a time. But he doesn't voice that thought. That time has to come, after all! They can't stay stranded here forever.
II
As it happens, though, caffeine withdrawal really sucks, and Sandalphon isn't in proper condition to keep tabs on the kid, which means Shrike pretty much has free rein to explore as he pleases. Which at the moment means approaching a familiar face he spots wandering around outside camp.
"What are you doing?"
He's curious, and knowing him, also probably thinking of offering help if it's a thing he can help with.
no subject
"Ah, hey. I'm just seeing if I can start making a basic map of things around here."
"Gro!" The Growlithe barks cheerfully in greeting.
no subject
Well, that has his attention. While he's never tried making one before, helping others with their maps is something he'd been doing a bit of before finding himself in Johto. Sort of.
"Did you go to many places yet?"
no subject
Partially out of laziness, partially out of not wanting to stray too far and get into trouble. If it was just him, that would be one thing, but he doesn't want to overwhelm the young Growlithe he's been partnered with.
"Which is kind of part of why I'm doing this, I guess. Well, aside from record keeping."
no subject
"I've been to some places!"
Not all of them quite yet, his Pokémon can only level up so fast, but even so.
"Are there areas you want to know about?"
Or be shown to, or guided around, or whatever. Shrike just wants to be helpful.
no subject
Ryner had been planning on making this a little solitary side project, but it couldn't hurt to have a little help, right? Especially if it was offered.
"Well, where would you recommend checking out? Might as well make sure to get to the best places first, and all."
no subject
Also, his usual guardian is going through caffeine withdrawal and thus not really surprising the kid right now.
"Umm... maybe the easiest place is the plains? There's a marsh, too, and a beach..."
no subject
"Could you tell me the best way to get to those plains, then? If it's not too much trouble, anyway."
no subject
Cue an actually very detailed and precise set of directions to the Obsidian Fieldlands. Included, if Ryner doesn't stop him, descriptions of some of the most efficient routes to take once there, and so on.
Apparently Shrike has been doing a fair bit of exploring.
III
Otherwise, they might find themselves woken up by the gentle touch of... something light? Multiple somethings light? Multiple somethings light that are falling all over their bodies, with special attention to the parts of Ryner that are not covered by his clothing.
Despite an attempt to keep his voice low, Ash's words may offer a potential explanation, should they hear them.
"No, no, I know you mean well, but I don't think grasses like these will serve as a blanket."
no subject
As it is, today, his reaction to having light things dropped on him is to grimace slightly in his sleep and roll over, hopefully away from the source of it. "Fi'more minutes..." he mutters groggily to no one in particular.
His Growlithe, on the other hand, apparently is a light sleeper, because at the first touch of something light, the Growlithe's eyes blink open to see what's going on. Not startled, just curious.
no subject
Not because he could easily be roasted by an upset fire dog, oh no. He doesn't know or care about that. What he does care about, however, is that a Growlithe who's awake needs no blanket! His efforts are wasted on such a target!
Thus, his only option is to throw the bundle of grass carefully held by the tips of his bladed limbs in Ryner's direction. Speaking of which, now he's further away and the first bits of blanket fell off? What's up with that?
Off to the sighs, Ash sighs in not-so-feigned despair.
"No, really. It's not going to keep him warm."
no subject
Oh, it's a game!
Games are good. Do you want help?
no subject
The Scyther points at a nearby patch of tall grass. Let's start with that one! Oh, and ignore the silly human pressing a hand against his face, he's just a boring killjoy.
