Video/Action for Route 31

[It's late when this video is posted. Or maybe it's early. Roxy kind of lost track of time and has been spending most her nights on Route 31. She doesn't even think about the fact that most people are asleep.]

[The video opens to Gastrell pouncing on a Mimikyu. Or at least he tries to. The Mimikyu doesn’t flee entirely, instead hiding behind a large Pumpkaboo. Roxy had been befriending it for several hours and it had enough of a sweet tooth to stay close. Actually both the Mimikyu and the Pumpkaboo do.] Gastrell! That isn’t how you make friends. It’s shy. [Said with exasperated fondness.]

After weeks [It's only been a week] of searching, I finally caught a Pumpkaboo. Meet Schmendrick the Magician. [Schmendrick gives an incredibly awkward floating bow. Like how is it possible to fit so much awkwardness into a fricking pumpkin?]

I also found this little one. [The camera zooms in on the Mimikyu.] I have no idea what type they are. They don’t show up in the Pokédex. This isn’t the first one I saw, but they're the first one I’ve befriended. The only one that let me approach them. They seem to really like chocolate.

Hmmm...it kind of looks like a ghost type? But then again, my brother is a lot better at this than me.

Does look a lot like a kid in a bedsheet ghost costume. Who's also attempting Pikachu and pulling both off. Ghost would make the most sense. Then again sense doesn't really matter much here.

They've all been silent though. Don't most of them tell you a name at least?

I'm pretty sure they do but it's not a bad thing! You can still give it a name! I mean, it's not like they're going to say no to that!

[Pause]

...Hopefully.

Yeah, but I don't think it wants to be caught. See. [She holds her hand down low enough for the Mimikyu, who butts its head against her hand. The second she reaches towards a pokéball, it's right back to hiding behind Schmendrick.] I'm not sure I should name it if I'm not keeping it.

But it's still fun to name it though, Roxy! I know I would do it even if I'm not keeping it! And you know what I would name it?

[Wait for it.....!]

The Super Omega Ultra Pharoh! [Yup]

[LBR, that's a pretty great name.] Why Pharoh?

I've been naming them all after wizards. [She'll have to think about this.]

Why not? It sounds pretty cool and they kind of sort of get to rule over something! Although, wizards sound really awesome too.

[This was a very serious thing to think about indeed!]

Especially ones that have a cool mark on their forehead somewhere! [And here we see her avoiding copyright laws here]

Those are legit reasons. [And she means that.]

Or one's that overthrow the Learned or are part of the Learned. It's really had to describe Complacency of the Learned in one sentence. [You know, the book no one outside her universe has heard of.]

Complacency of the Learned? Is that some kind of book or something? Because it sure sounds a lot like something my brother would read! And it sounds like it'll be a really long book too!

It is. [A book and really long. And full of purple prose.] My mom wrote. It's awesome. [She might be biased.]

[It's late in Violet City, just as it's late in nearby Route 31, but Jane is out in the latter for some supplies shopping, her jacket zipped up to her chin. She looks a little surprised to see the Mimikyu Roxy's with...]

Holy cow, these things must be everywhere! Look!

[And she turns the feed onto Dinah, just out of range of the street lamp, kindly placing one raisin at a time on the ground, only for a black Mimikyu claw to emerge from the shadows and take it with a grateful chirp.]

Dinah keeps hearing them, I think. She'll run out and try offering raisins to the poor things, but this is the first one who's actually taking them!

[There is always that one oddball who likes the healthy treats on Halloween.]

Who wants raisins for Halloween? [TBH, Roxy, but she knows that isn't normal. And she'd pick candy first.] The few I've seen Gastrell chased off by trying to play. It took a while before this little guy would come close.

Think it's because of Halloween.

[Oh my God why does everyone hate raisins]

I wouldn't mind them, but it's actually better not to get them in the little boxes, you don't know if they've been tampered with that way. And there ARE chocolate covered raisins. [Points over at Dinah and her new friend, who is edging closer into the light. Yep, definitely a sheet ghost baby.] And clearly this one would like them, too.

[But as for that second suggestion...] Could Pokemon be dressing up to go trick-or-treating? I never would have guessed it...

[She doesn't hate them. Locasta does, but she hates most food so...]

Oh, can we make those next?

It could be. Wouldn't the Pokédex still show something though? It's still a Pokémon, but it appears to be a costume. I wonder if it will let me see. [The Mimikyu comes to her, but darts even farther away when she tries.] If it is, it really doesn't want you to know what it really is.

Definitely - I'm kind of bogged down by the things, we might as well.

[Those monks swear that harvest time will end around Halloween but they keep paying her in grapes.........]

Hm, it...probably should, right? It's a clever machine. [She watches the creature dart from Roxy's advances.] And it might not want to take its outfit off until after Halloween. I bet it's really into the spirit.

Auuudi!

Mikkyu, miiii...

Huh? Oh! [Looks like Dinah coaxed the Mimikyu friend over to Jane. It looks up at her with a touch of hesitance.] Hello little friend!

[It shrinks behind Dinah, who pats it on the costume head, but it does not run away! Jane looks at them for a moment before turning back to the 'gear.]

Oh God, Roxy, it's so cuuuute...

[Whether Jane meant spirit as a pun or not, Roxy's going to laugh about it.] I know, right?

I wonder if any of mine want to dress up. [Schmendrick looks interested, but it's hard to tell if it because of the topic or not.]

You can always give it a try. Dirk and I want to dress up Dinah and Anne, they seem to be the most likely candidates for being okay with clothes.

[The Mimikyu is edging back out from behind Dinah again, taking an interest in Jane's shopping bag. She hums questioningly before opening it up so it can look inside...and laughs when its head pokes back out with a barrette stuck on its costume's ear.]

Hoo hoo! Oh gosh, hold on - Dinah, could you take this please?

[The Audino obliges and happily films as Jane gently fixes the barrette so it's closer to the costume's "head".] Here, why don't you take it? It looks nice on you.

Kyuuu?

Very fashionable. [Roxy adds to the Mimikyu.]

Any plans on what to dress them up like? [Mombi will not put up with that shit. The rest of the pokémon would probably lose it within an hour, but they'd try.]

[It's hard to tell through the costume, but the Mimikyu looks very happy to hear that.] Mii!

Anne I'm not sure - Dirk would have more ideas than I do for her. But Dinah? Goodness, I kind of want to find her a frilly suit jacket and a nice hat to match. Maybe even some tiny little boots, if there's no objection. What do you think, dear?

[The camera bobs as Dinah nods, and she hands the 'gear back to Jane, chattering with the Mimikyu (probably about what the humans are going on about).]

That sounds amazing. I wonder how many of mine would let me dress them like wizards. Cat wizards.

Ask them and start making some plans. In my opinion, you definitely deserve to have a horde of "cat wizards" following you around.

I've only seen a few the past day or so. They tend to hide from people. In the shadows and stuff. No clue where they're from.

I would say we're bigger than them so that makes us scary, but they prolly have powers, so we shouldn't be too threatening. Maybe they aren't used to so many people. [You know, wherever they're from.]

IDK, I doubt there's anywhere in this universe where people would hurt them.

[John isn't even phased by the new Pokemon. There's lots of Pokemon he still doesn't know about; this is nothing new to him. No, there is something like a hundred times more important to acknowledge here.]

Schmendrick the Magician is an awesome name, and you should feel awesome for choosing it.

Well yeah, of course you're awesome. You should just feel extra awesome for the name choice.

[He doesn't even blink when his screen is suddenly taken up by Pokemon. You get used to that kind of thing around here.]

Good job on catching this guy, too. Right in time for Halloween!

[Good. He has a message for you that's basically a greeting. And then stays for a few moment before darting away.]

That wasn't my intention, but it works. Halloween sounds amazing, BTDubs. Do you have plans for Halloween?

Not really? I mean, I guess I will dress up as something and then go and try to get candy. I assume they still do that in Pokemon-land. I don't know what I'll dress up as yet, though.

[A pause, as he takes a moment to really think it through.]

Maybe a ghostbuster.

[ Old habits die hard. Even here, dimensions away from home, Minato still never falls asleep before midnight. And considering his team right now consists of a ghost and an owl...well, late-night walks had become a fairly regular thing while he lingered in Violet City.

Not so surprising, too, to wander upon this scene as he takes a little stroll, intending vaguely to expand his team. He arrives near the tail end of the broadcast, just in time to catch a certain name. Minato approaches, hands in pockets, owl and ghost orbiting him along his path.

'Schmendrick'. He can't talk, but... ]

Congratulations on catching one.

[Yeah, what are sleep schedules? Nothing Roxy's ever understood, that's for sure.]

[ He approaches closer, crouching down to inspect the lil' ghostie a bit more closely. Weird, that's for sure. ]

Didn't think anyone would be out looking this late.

Some of them, mostly ghosts, only come out at night. Besides I don't sleep at regular hours.

Me either.

[ And it's kind of a relief to find somebody else who doesn't. He straightens, dusting off his pants. ]

Good thing it's sort of safe around here.

[Sorry, Roxy, the first thing you get is an amused snort of laughter. Because really... Schmendrick. It has its charm, but still, what a silly name...!

But when Elsa sees the Mimikyu, the amusement quickly shifts to curiosity.]

You found one as well? Strange, they really seem to be spreading out... [She glances off-screen, where another mimikyu is peeking out at her from the shadows under her bed. It had followed her home, yet scrambled to hide every time Elsa turned around. She didn't mind, not at all, but... she's not sure if she should be worried or not.] They seem even more skittish around Pokeballs, like they're terrified of being caught...

[That's cool, it makes her laugh too.]

I've noticed that. I almost went to catch the little guy and it was hiding behind Gastrell. They seem scared of most things.

... You have quite the affinity for unique names.

[Not a bad thing at all!]

If it weren't for the fact that they seem to be popping up everywhere, I'd guess that this was some sort of legendary pokemon. From what I've heard, it's impossible to catch those types as well.

I name them all after wizards. [Wizards have weird names, not her fault. Or her creativity.]

Do legendary pokemon show up?

... Real, or fictional?

[She can't imagine someone actually sporting names like those... geez...]

I don't recall seeing any legendaries during the swarms a few years ago. They do show up from time to time, on very rare occasions, but those occasions I could count on one hand.
