Well, it's true that some people get access to tutors or other such fancy things, but... Shrike fidgets a bit. It's hard not to see all the ways in which he doesn't compare to others.

He's really having a hard time understanding what's so special about that. It's a book made for people who aren't exactly skilled to begin with, after all. Simple, basic spells, with a few slightly more 'advanced' ones thrown in for those who like a challenge.
