Question: How do you guys decide which Pokemon to travel with, once they've caught more than six? Because I guess it would make sense to have a bunch of different typed Pokemon that know even more kinds of attacks, but I'm not battling a real lot.
The latest two Pokemon that I found are ones I'd like to train and get to know better. One of them is a lizard that's just so cool and the other one's really cute. She's like this little balloon and just seemed pretty eager to come with me.
[It was adorable to have the Drifloon latch onto him! That registered as sweet, not an attempting kidnapping.]
I'll be in a town with a Pokemon center soon, but the more I think about not having the other six around... I don't know, it feels strange. And I've been talking to them, like people told me to do when I was having problems with Corrosion. It's not an exact science, but they seem to be having fun. Even Corrosion, actually, so thanks! Thank you to everyone who gave me advice about working with her. I started setting up treasure hunts for her at camp and in towns, she really likes figuring out where I've put things.

[After that, he sends a photo of his Rapidash and Galarian Rapidash.]
That being said, if I'm on the road, these two are with me more often than not--riding is faster than traveling on foot, and I keep both on hand because one of the people in my group doesn't have anything big enough to carry him like that.

[Oh wait, but he doesn't have a fire type, or a Pokemon large enough to ride. He's getting ahead of himself again.]
How does traveling with eggs play a part, though? Or is it just about planning room for those.

Honestly, though, I've been wondering how much I'd need to build a place where they could move freely...I suppose if there was one large enough, other people could also use it for their pokemon to stretch their legs. They say they're perfectly well kept in the balls, but...
[It BREAKS HER HEART to box pokemon, Varian.]

[But oh, the idea of a place where Pokemon could wander freely gives him an idea, and as is usually his way, he starts running with it.]
You should totally see if you can get enough land to build a farm for your Pokemon! Well, no, I mean... Not like a "Pokemon farm", but some kind of produce farm where Pokemon can live, you know? They would always have food, and plenty of space!
[Does Naeva know anything about farming? Varian has no clue, and it's not like he knows enough that he could give her meaningful guidance. But his early childhood was spent climbing the apple trees his dad tended. His father is village leader first and foremost, but he's a farmer, too.]

[She does pause though, and consider. She's pretty good with plants, but a forested kingdom doesn't really have farmland. Hmm...]
It could work...I'd have to ask around. I doubt land and construction is cheap...but I'm sure there are people here who'd have advice.

We are. I think I've started to figure out how to be a good Pokemon trainer.
I mean, I don't think I could've left the best first impression on you. Actually, I'm not sure I've made a good first impression with anyone. Sometimes I get so caught up seeing things in a way that makes sense to me that I don't think about different ways of looking at those things.
Anyway, I think if you could pay for it, a farm would be a great place for you and your Pokemon, and if you do open it up to other people, I know I'd like to stop by. I think I could learn a lot.

The nice thing about people, and their impressions, is they can be grow and change. Take it from an old lady...you've got plenty of time to learn.
[ She does wonder a little about Corrosion, but she never found Varian to have left a bad impression, just a teenaged boy impression. ]
I certainly don't mind helping people with everything I can...an ability like mine is rare here, but I think there are plenty of ways to teach people how to best connect to their partners.

It can be hard to shake a bad idea someone has of you, but you're right, it's possible. I want to leave a good impression with the people here, and with my Pokemon, so... That's what I'm working on. Figuring out how I can do that.

I think as long as you are sincerely trying to be friends with them, most pokemon can tell. Not all of them will trust humans immediately, but most animals can sense your sincerity.
no subject
Hey, you know, you told me before that you weren't human before, right? Is it weird if, uh... Can I ask what you were?

my people are known as the Night-Kin in our country, though I have heard they have other names in other lands. We may take the forms of beasts closest to our heart, or forms like that of humans, or something rather in-between...naturally, we are much stronger and have better senses than humans, though for many of us we are naturally nocturnal or crepuscular, so we grow drowsy in the daylight.

Other than that, I switch out a lot, try to give everyone their time.

[Who, Varian, overthinking? Surely not.]
Besides, I don't want any of them to feel ignored.
[Who, Varian, projecting childhood feelings of isolation? Surely... Not...]

Then, apart from that, I always reserved one spot in my team for a pokemon that could help me while travelling, often my starter pokemon, as he's a Noctowl, and is capable of Fly. I just thought it was important to have a pokemon like that on me in case of emergency. I'd hate to be stuck in the middle of a route, unable to help me friends if they needed me somewhere else.
Then I'd fill the rest of my party with pokemon I was either training, or if I was travelling towards a particular gym, the pokemon I intended to use for that gym. Even if they were already trained up, I felt the time on the road could be used to go over some strategies and warm up a bit before taking on a gym leader.
Unrelated to this, I'm glad to hear you have figured out a way to keep Corrosion engaged and entertained. Treasure hunts sounds like a perfect way to keep her active and challenge her mind.

[That is so much information, and Varian just eats it all up.]
Helpful tips, thank you! Can your larger aquatic Pokemon even survive on land for long, or are those kind of Pokemon all kind of amphibious, somehow? Because my travel companion has a fish Pokemon he caught that he's keeping with him to train, and she does okay. I mean, no worse than she does in water, anyway. She really never seems exactly okay? I don't know, it's weird.
And trainers need a specific badge to earn the right to fly around on a Pokemon, don't they? I'm traveling with a breeder, I wonder if I'd still need that... But anyway, I have to admit, the gyms haven't really been on my mind! I'm not really a battle strategy guy, you know? But what is it like, doing the challenge?

It is pretty difficult trying to choose which Pokemon to have, to be honest. I have certain Pokemon I keep with me all the time, but when I was traveling I would mostly just try to rotate them out to make sure everyone could have a turn. When I would go out on the road, I would choose Pokemon that I didn't spend time with before so they could travel with me, and then when I get to another town I'd spend as much as I could with everyone else.
no subject
Giving everyone a fair turn does seem like a good way to do this. I don't think Corrosion would like being put in the box, but I can rotate who takes up the other five positions.
no subject
Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to put Allegra in the boxes either. She helped me so much when I was just starting, I felt bad about just thinking about not having her with me.
[ And now she has three Pokemon she keeps on her at all times, for different reasons. Even so, she still works on spending time with everyone. ]
