A Cup of Kindness That We Share With Another (Voltron Holiday Party Log)

After last year’s party turned out to be a smash hit, of course they’re hosting again. Invitations would’ve been sent out a few weeks beforehand, including offers to pay for Ubirds or personally ferry people to Four Island and plenty of guest rooms to sleep in, since they know it’s a long way to travel for a single party.

When people arrive, the spacious beach house is decked out with lights, mostly in shades of blue, and the interior beckons people to come out of the brisk and damp sub-tropic air, warm and bright and spacious (which it needs to be with the possible crowds), soft and cheery Poké-holiday music winding through the rooms. Occasionally you might catch Allura’s Primarina Celina quietly hum along, but only until she notices someone’s listening in.

Now that Hunk is here this year, the spread is amazing. Rich and spicy Kanto style curry, a milder vegetarian curry, or a Samoan chicken coconut curry to go over rice, mushroom and kabocha gratin, chop suey, skewers featuring coconut shrimp and pineapple or miso-glazed roasted veggies, musubi shaped to look like Pokéballs, mini quiches in savory and sweet flavors, among many other treats. The dessert section includes but is certainly not limited to a wide variety of Christmas cookies, fruit pieces dipped in chocolate and crushed sandwich cookies Hunk has dubbed meow chow, an adorable little Christmas cake, at least three different pies including a spectacular apple, and fa’ausi: a sweet, caramelized coconut bread pudding. Shiro is once again on drink duty, and the liquid refreshments feature mugs of coffee and hot chocolate, slow cookers of mulled wine and apple juice, and the return of the bright blue Grogory Day punch. And of course plenty of Pokémon treats to go around. And if guests want to contribute to the feast, they’re more than welcome!

(Also, Shiro’s Gallade Blue has taken up his idol’s sword and planted mistletoe here and there around the house. Do with this what you will.)

So come, eat, drink, mingle with old friends and make some new ones! And enjoy the night, no matter which holiday you’ve come to celebrate!

I don't know. It probably just sounds cute. It's not like everything has to be what it sounds like.

[This coming from Min-Gi, who infinitely prefers when things are what they sound like. He doesn't exactly have a good answer to the question though, so that seems like the best possible answer.

He frowns as Ryan tries to take the tongs from him, trying to keep his hold for as long as he can before he starts worrying how this will look to anyone watching them and relinquishes his hold. Fine. He'll think of something else. It's not like he's about to get into a full on scuffle at the buffet table, and he has his plate to worry about spilling.

Technically it doesn't matter if he gets sick as long as Ryan does too. Those were the terms. But is it worth it? Probably not.]

You know, since this is my second plate this actually is seconds for me. I just haven't got to dessert yet.

[Ryan shrugs, tongs still in hand. He hasn't thought about how this looks for even a single second and he's not about to start now.]

Weeeeell if you're going by that logic, this is my second plate too. Guess I already have seconds!

[Aw, too bad for Min. So sad. A real tragedy. He does set the tongs down though, so he can cut himself the absolute thinnest slice of cake anyone's ever seen. It isn't even sturdy enough to stand up on its own; he just lays it on top of everything else like a sugar blanket.]

Then I guess we'll be coming back for thirds, right?

[He feels a lot less confident about this bet than when he proposed it and he hates it. That wafer thin slice of cake hurts him. Please, Ryan. That was barely worth taking. Why do you suddenly have such good self-restraint?]

[Obviously because it's funny to drive Min-Gi insane. Obviously.]

[Now that the tongs have been set down, he puts his free hand on Min's shoulder. Surely Min recognizes this gesture, and this tone Ryan is about to use. So smug, so helpful and kind.]

But I totally get it if you're too full. Three plates is a lot for anybody! Maybe you'll just have to help me with mine instead.

[So helpful! So kind! Min-Gi is so appreciative his voice goes up about three octaves.]

Oh, I couldn't possibly take yours. There's hardly anything on there already.

Pfft. There's like, three whole things on here! That's more than enough to share.

[Hm. A compromise is probably necessary here. Or maybe he just feels like he needs to offer poor Min a rope here.]

Though...if there's something you want I could always grab it.

[Min stares at him for a long moment, then lets out a grumbling sigh.]

Just take whatever. I want to eat this before it goes cold.

[Yeah, he's sulky. Over Ryan not gorging himself and making himself unwell. He's vaguely aware of the ridiculousness of it, but he wants to win this bet badly.]

[Ryan just rolls his eyes, but he does take a small sliver of Apple Pie and follow Min.

The entire bet is ridiculous. The only thing Ryan would even have to do to win it is not eat anything else the rest of the night, and he could definitely still do that, but going along with Min is fun. Playing along and then side-stepping is hysterical.

But Min's sulking now, so his gears shift a little. But only a little.]

Or before Ry and Min-un try and steal it again.

[Min doesn't feel particularly open to letting Ryan change the topic, but it is a party and appearances are everything. He nods reluctantly as he reclaims his earlier spot against the wall.]

I think we might be safe for now. They can only eat so much, right?

[But he does pick up one of the skewers. It's better not to chance it.]
