Video

[The video opens with Ulaz walking somewhere in his house. Normally he wouldn't do that, but as the camera angle goes behind him, it is obvious that he is not the one holding the camera. Even though it is clearly following Ulaz, the video feed does reveal that there are a few new housemates. A Leafeon is wandering around near the couch with his Eevee and Alolan Vulpix following behind (apparently trying to act as a "mature" as the Eevee evolution) while a Bastiodon napped in one corner.

But as Ulaz reached the door which was already open, he glanced back]

You turned it on?

[Sorry, listeners. There was the sound of a happy Dreepy way to close to the device. A moment later, the faint sound of a Dragapult from somewhere else in the house. The Dreepy sounded curious now]

Yes, thank you, Meze, for turning it on already. [There was a faint hint of sarcasm there. He hadn't been expecting her to turn it on] Give it to me and you can go see Regris.

[He took the device from Meze the Dreepy and she was off! Ulaz just shook his head and headed inside]

I wanted to know if anyone had any advise of remodeling, especially bathrooms. I have had to push up my timeline of making changes to the house.

[He walked through the bathroom to the bathtub where Ozriv the Marill was standing on the rim of the tub looking in and Irkut the Espurr was on a stool also looking in. Irkut looked back at him and squeaked as he came over before looking back in.

Soon everyone else would be able to see too. There was a small dolphin-like Pokemon in the bathtub, playing in the water, but likely would have preferred more. She squeaked happily when Ulaz returned, popping up just a bit so she was closer]

This is Chatzea. She just hatched recently. It is colder outside and I'd like to give her more space to play in the water until I can get a pond build for her and the others. I thought I'd have more time to research, but it is important to start looking now.

[He reached in to give her a pet and Chatzea made a happy sound. Ulaz smiled faintly.

But this was interrupted by a commotion outside the room. Unintentionally, Ulaz moved the device to look at the door when he turned to see what was going on. There were a few Pokemon running around... until something went floating by making a clinking noise]

It's back again?!

[As Ulaz started to get up, he turned off the video feed]

Most have forgotten, but there are those who remember. I am one who remembers some of what my world used to be like so I try to keep it alive.

Yes, that is very exciting. Irkut my Espurr, I have had him since his first day and watching him grow and learn is very exciting.

I would been interested in hearing more about that.

That's good. My family has been trying to do the same. I'd like to... help my sister with that if I ever return home.

[Ah yes, the Espurr. How could he forget. He's had to interact with far more of them than he'd like. No matter how cute or nice they might be, their stare continues to be unnerving to him.

But still. He understands how important a person's team is, particularly their starter.]

I'll admit, I never thought I'd find that kind of thing rewarding but it's been exactly that.

[Yes, that stare was rather... creepy. Ulaz did have to admit it had been weird at first. Now... not so much. He had gotten used to it since Irkut was usually around. Waking up to find him sitting there... that was still a little weird]

Back in my world, I would have agreed that it could fulfilling, but it was not something that I would ever have thought I'd be able to do. That it get the chance, I am grateful for it.

[It's Marik's own paranoia that makes him uncomfortable around them. He knows he's committed hundreds of atrocities. That there's literal dark magic deeply nestled into his fractured soul. He's just projecting his own issues on to the poor cat pokémon. (Maybe. It's hard to tell.)

Mn. Yeah. Kind of funny how this place works. Sort of like a second chance at life... I know not everyone sees it that way but that's what it is for me.

[It was quite possible that Irkut could, but probably not when he was awake and Ulaz had told him not to do that to just anyone. So he was probably safe from Irkut, but the stare did make it seem like he could see more than he did... but he did that everyone. Even with Primdes the Eevee who had never done a bad thing in his life]

It is for me as well. It may be one of my last chances and certainly the last that was this peaceful. Of course, it gives me many opportunities including research.

[It's like that with every Espurr he's had the pleasure of interacting with. Chen probably apologized to Irkut at the party before they left. "It's nothing personal, Marik's just like that." Because his trainer is a handful.]

It sounds silly but... I don't know why I didn't think people would come from similar circumstances as me. It's... nice to know I'm not alone.

Ah... Speaking of the research, if you have any ghost types you're curious about, let me know and I'll look into them for you.

[He wouldn't have taken it personally. It was fine. He just happened to stare a lot. It was his nature. He would have appreciated the apology though]

Perhaps because it seems strange to consider that others might come from fates that are not always good. I do not picture others as having the problems I had so it is surprising to find out it might be so.

I have a Pumpkaboo! I actually haven't had much time to interact with him despite having him for a while. I'll have to rotate him to my active party to start taking notes and looking into their "poké lore."

It does. It is becoming more normal now that I am aware of it.

I have Mimdek, my Pumpkaboo, but he tends to keep to himself when awake. He will usually float through a few times in the evening when we are awake. I think he and Voxel the Litwick either have become friends or were friends before so they spend a lot of their time together so I am still curious to learn more about them.

I did notice he was reclusive so I tried not to bother him when I was over. Now that he kind of knows of me, I could always come visit sometime and study them for you? Chen can translate for them too as he's gotten a good grasp at... uh... whatever the universal language is here.

I would appreciate that. You have much better eye for ghost Pokemon it seems and Mimdek did seem to be warming up to you and your team while you were here. I think that you had ghost Pokemon as well helped. Chen's translations would help. Irkut tries, but his translations are not so much words as they are images and impressions. I have learned to figure them out, but since Mimdek stays mostly out of the way, Irkut rarely translates for him. Perhaps your Pumpkaboo would like to visit. It might help to see them together.

[He scratches his cheek and grins nervously.]

Ghost pokémon have always seemed to be drawn towards me.

[Being a tomb keeper and using an ancient relic made from dark magic will do that to you.]

Hmm. Yeah, Chen doesn't mind translating at all. I'll bring Qeb, my Pumpkaboo, over to meet Mimdek. I'm a bit busy traveling at the moment but once I'm back in Johto and moved into my yacht, I can visit whenever.

I am surprised that they have ended up being so prominent on my team. There are the four you met and now there are three more. A friend of mine has left and a portion of his team was given to me to care for. The Leafeon in the other room is one such Pokemon. [Since Bastiodon had been sleeping, he had not been mentioned] But there is a Dragapult, a Shedinja, and a Honedge.

Well, from what I can tell, most ghost pokémon are attracted to dark energies and emotions. So considering everything you've been through, that might be why.

I'm sorry to hear your friend is gone. That's never an easy thing to deal with.

It was the same with Chen and Usi although Chen was a bit more dependent on me than Usi was. Speaking of Trunti, I think Usi really hit it off with her. I hadn't seen him so well behaved in a very long time like he was hanging out with her.

I've definitely noticed that trend with a lot of base type pokémon. Not all of them but a decent amount. I'm glad to hear Usi made a good impression though. He needs more friends to mellow him out.

Perhaps there is a reason for that. If they gave out more difficult Pokemon, it might be hard to get started. Even though Foudre is more independent now, she is certainly attached to me. I'm sure sure Trunti would like to see him again when you come to visit.

[Ulaz could tell that she might trying to chase the Cramorant off or tell it to stop so when it still just... stared, Ulaz reached down to give Chatzea a pet. It was a good try, little one]

Hmm... that is troublesome, especially if it is trying to eat everything that you have. I almost wonder if it would be worth catching it just so it will be out of the way.

That makes sense. It's already confusing enough to learn everything when you first arrive. Having a calm pokémon certainly helps.

[Marik would be appreciative even if Chatzea wasn't able to do anything.]

I've tried. It deflects the pokéball every time.

It does indeed. As a Poochyena she was more bark than bite, and wanted to stay by me when something big was around so it certainly helped to have her company.

[Chatzea tried. It was the best she - a small dolphin like Pokemon in a bathtub - could do. She made a happy squeaking sound as Ulaz pet her and rolled around]

I see. That Pokemon is indeed problematic. I'm surprised that has been able to do that.

That's sweet of her. Bahiti's the only one who was really like that out of my team. They're all protective, of course, but I think she... sees me as her kitten?

[She sure is adorable despite not being able to "help."]

Some of these Pokemon are quite a bit larger and stronger than us.

[Ulaz also glanced at the dumb bird in the video screen. Chatzea was happily splashing, no longer paying attention to dumb bird. She was - after all - still a baby]
