Shark House Etc Birthday Log
Who: Lust and Open to Shark House/Timothy Lawrence
Where: Goldenrod, Shark House
When: Nov 9th
Summary: It's Lust's birthday!
Rating: PG probably
Log:
[Lust has had birthdays before. Two, in fact. But they've always been quiet, at home affairs. Nothing she's drawn attention to or gone out of her way to celebrate, though she does like the gifts.]
[This year is...different. She's going out. A proper going out, with a called in invitation and the whole to-do. No matter how many times Timothy used the word 'friend', it's impossible to see this as simply a friendly get together. It was one thing to pretend before, when they simply went out for drinks, or he came over to watch movies...]
[But that had been before.]
[Lust spent a great deal of time getting ready. It was oddly nerve wracking, when it really oughtn't have been. And even then she found herself ready far earlier than she needed to be, to leave to meet her company for the evening.]
[So she killed the time trying to calm her ridiculous nerves and settle her thoughts with a glass of wine, sitting in the kitchen in her fancy dinner dress with Guttle and Henry the Espurr at her feet. It was simply dinner. They spent plenty of time together already, this really shouldn't be any different.]
[And yet...]
[When the time came, she went to meet Timothy at the arranged rendezvous point for their...'friendly dinner'.]

Just to be safe, he makes sure to be there early. So he's already waiting when Lust gets there. Hell, he doesn't even notice her immediately, just quickly checking something on his gear to kill some time.
Then he hears someone get closer, of course, so he goes to put the gear away and looks up.]
Oh, hey--
[And then he really sees her. And what she's wearing.]
H... Hey. Hi. Wow. I-I mean... Uhhhh. [He hasn't failed this much at words since he first met her, wow. There... might be some staring, but really, can you blame him?] ...Sup?
[This is off to a great start.]

[He looks so much better in blue. And clearly, judging by his reaction, she'd made the right choice in dresses. She has to suppress a laugh - not a cruel one - at his stumbling and mumbling.]
Hello. You look very dashing this evening.
[She would have said 'handsome', but...she has a feeling he'd appreciate 'dashing' more. And he does look good. Even scarred as he is. But she's never been one to make much of scars. In a way, it's...striking.]
[His obvious nervousness helps ease hers some.]
Apparently, I'm twenty four today.
no subject
Ah... thanks. And you look uh... just... wow.
Which... is not much of a word... Damn it.
[Why is he so terrible at this? Isn't he usually better at talking to her? Well, now, at least. He hopes. Oh god, what if he's not, what if this is just what he sounds like all the time anyway and he hasn't even realized--
Okay, calm down, Tim. Be chill.]
Twenty four, huh...? [He never really thought about how old she is before, he's just now realizing.] Well. Happy birthday.

[She hadn't had occasion to doll herself up since the moon, really. And this was different. This was...well. This was going out. Besides, it's her birthday. She has every reason to dress to the nines this evening.]
[And she can't say she's disappointed with the reaction. Quite the opposite.]
As far as I know. I didn't even know when my birthday was, until a few years ago. It's funny, I...didn't age, previously. Even that's a whole new experience.
Shall we?
no subject
[...Is that even a normal thing to say? Let's assume it is and not dwell on it. She probably gets what he means.]
Better make sure it's a good experience and have a good time then, right?
Right, yeah. Let's.
[Oh god, this sure is happening.]
no subject
[It occurs to her that she hasn't offered much detail of that to Timothy. She likely should. Certainly before this...whatever this is, goes much further. But he's right, tonight is to have a nice time. A life of former sexual slavery is hardly pleasant dinner date conversation.]
[There's a moment where Lust glances at Timothy's arm, hand lifting instinctively, half expecting him to offer it. He seems like that sort of man. But she drops her hand and glances away quickly, before she makes an utter fool of herself.]
We will have a good time. Since it's my birthday, I decided to indulge. There's a restaurant uptown, it has the most extravagant chocolate sundae. The ice cream's made from imported whipped chocolate cream, actual cream. I've always wanted to try it, but... well, it's one of those silly things, isn't it?
[It's nothing more than an expensive dessert, and despite being wealthy, surely there's much better things she can spend her money on. It's frivolous. It's ridiculous. But it's her birthday, and she has a feeling that Timothy may not find it such a silly waste.]
no subject
Well, no time for silly like a birthday, right? Hell, I'd say that makes it perfect. And it does sound pretty good.
[Honestly, thank god she's lived here long enough that she knows of a place she wants to go. He's not sure if he'd be good at choosing a location. There's a reason he left that part up to her.]
no subject
If you say so. I'm still a bit unsure on what actual birthday traditions are, my human family likes to have fun with my and my brother's lack of knowledge in that area. But it's settled, we'll go uptown and have a fancy dinner and a ridiculously indulgent dessert. It seems...fitting.
[Again, television has painted some very specific pictures for Lust. She has a rule. If a scenario occurs in eighty percent or more of the media she's consumed, she assumes it's accurate to life. This doesn't always work in her favor.]
no subject
This is definitely a normal thing friends do. Don't mind the blushing while he's doing that. That's... also just... so platonic...]
Ah, the real traditions are what you decide on yourself anyway. I think that's probably the best way to go. [Not like he ever did much with more common birthday traditions anyway, so maybe that's just him.] Ha, alright. Sounds like a good time.
I'll just let you lead the way, because I still have no clue where most things are in this city. You'd think a few months of adjustment would've had me used to actual cities again, but uh, not just yet I guess.

[There, obviously hand holding had been the appropriate gesture. He is from some far distant future. And she realizes how very long it's been since she's done this. Not that she and Scar were prone to walking hand in hand, but...every once in a while. When they were more or less alone.]
[And now she's walking hand in hand with another man. On their way out to dinner together. And there's something so comfortably right about it. It's not that indescribable perfect click she'd always felt with Scar, but it's comfortable and feels natural. It's terrifying, in its way. Not that all of this hasn't been, this surprising blossoming of feelings. But it's more than simply vague, buried feelings now.]
[But this is normal, and she knows that. There's something here. Feelings develop, there's no intent behind them. And she's so tired of being lonely. Timothy's a good man, he understands her, he makes her happy. There's nothing wrong with this - despite a small part of her that still insists it is.]
It takes some time. I've been here for years, it's my only advantage. I wandered around lost for weeks, at first. Now I think I could find my way around blindfolded. It's strange, how quickly this place has come to feel like home.
no subject
[Not that it's one he's taken much advantage of himself, but he's still a little stuck in his old eating habits sometimes. Which aren't great, since they mostly come from when he was in horrible debt, but hey. Changing the little stuff like that is weirdly difficult.
Meanwhile, he's uh... trying not to think too much about the handholding, or else he's going to go so red in the face and that'll stick around for the rest of the night and he'll probably stammer like an idiot, so you know, let's not. But wow, yeah, this sure is happening!]
Right, right... Time's the important part. I got used to a bunch of new places quickly before I got here, but uh, those weren't as big as a city. And, heh, well, those also didn't have much else to do but explore. Not many distractions there...

[Says the professional acrobat who was built to carry some extra curvage. But it's one thing she's never grasped. Her size has little to do with her appearance. She's well aware she's bigger now, than when she was, but she's strong and fit and beneath the layer of soft plumpness, there's nothing but muscle.]
You know...there's a great deal to explore here. I've done some traveling, in the past. It's been a great deal of time, I don't enjoy traveling on my own, and I'm...particular about who I travel with.
Perhaps I could show you some of the more impressive sights.
no subject
[Besides, she looks great anyway. Obviously. Which... is maybe not the point here, but it's worth noting. Not that he's... constantly taking note of that-- okay, moving on.]
It is a pretty big world. I haven't really, uh... seen all that much except a handful of cities, come to think of it. So-- [...Wait, was that pretty much her saying she'd be down to travel with him? Like... a potential thing that might happen in the future? What.] So um... Yeah, sure, that'd be great, actually.
I bet you know all the best places by now, huh?
no subject
[For once, a statement regarding her size isn't greeted with 'oh but you're not big!'. As though it's something to be concerned over. The assumption that she's worried or finds it a sensitive issue...]
[Besides, Timothy obviously doesn't see anything wrong with her figure.]
Not all of them. But some of them. I took a trip to the other region, once. But there are places here in Johto I've never seen. Especially places on the coast, I'm not terribly fond of the ocean.
We'll have to take a trip, then. Maybe come spring.
[After the cold but before the heat. It's been a while, since she left Goldenrod for any time.]
Ah, and our destination is just down this street.
[Action]
[He's still in his Pokemon Center scrubs and has a thick paper envelope in hand.]
Lust, are you busy?
no subject
[She notes Henry seems a bit more alert than he often is. She sets down her glass of wine and shakes her head at his approach.]
No, not at all. I was just passing the time before I go to dinner. I have plenty of time.
no subject
I wanted to make sure you got this. Happy Birthday. I'm glad I know you.
[Inside are several glossy photographs of Lust's Pokemon and another paper envelope of refined persim zest tea.]

[It's the little things like this that Lust finds the most touching. She takes the packet with a small smile, still not entirely comfortable with the depths and strengths of her own emotions.]
Thank you. You're a strange and wonderful man, who I'm very pleased to have in my life.
no subject
[No, he didn't think. He was grateful for the sentiment. He gives her a small smile.]
You've taught me a lot.
