Who: Marik and Hunk
Where: Sevii Islands
When: Before Contest, After Marik becomes a breeder
Summary: The two celebrate the change in role, discuss business, and general news.
Rating: PG unless some hard histories get mentioned.
Log:
[This is bad news for Marik, to be honest. Because Hunk? Absolutely delighted to talk about the math related to breeding. And without Pidge here to ramble at, he needs the outlet. But it's also great- he's glad to help him out with the Cyclizar thing. And he wants his friends to have as much happiness and romantic luck as possible. Things seem to be going pretty well with Fluttershy (he's not been intrusive about it, but it just seems that way).]
[He'd been considering entering the contest, but when he saw that Allura was going to he decided he'd rather give her support. But he's still got a bunch of alien cutouts he made that will have nowhere to go except up as decorations. He doesn't want to throw them away, they're all related to planets that the Voltron crew visited and seem like nice reminders of past adventures.]
[Whenever Marik shows up at the Voltron house, he's in the middle of dumping the giant batch of leftover cardboard scraps in the recycling.]
Hey! I'll be good to go in a minute. Just need to clean this up before I ruin Shiro's day.

[It's the price you have to pay to have big friends.]
Whatever you decide on? You need to try their malasadas when you're done. They're almost as good as what they have at home.
[Little by little he's going to introduce Marik to the Sevii version of his culture, darn it. It's a pity that there's not really a PokeEgypt they can visit in order to exchange the favor, but maybe it's good that Marik doesn't have to put up with those reminders. It sounds like those days were hard for him.]
[He still plans to make him an Egyptian style dinner at some point. For now he's just happy to feed him and their nerdy attack squad something that means a lot to him.]

Those are those donut like things, right? I remember you telling me about them before.
[The blonde is more than happy to try whatever. As long as it's tasty, that's all that matters to him.
The closest thing he's found to a PokéEgypt is the Ruins of Alph. They're certainly kept in a similar, disappointing manner... and while yes, his upbringing was incredibly hard, he prides himself on keeping up the old ways and beliefs as much as he can.
There isn't much to his heritage left in the current world, after all.
With Hunk having taught him how to cook, Marik can now write more accurate recipes for him to try of the various dishes he remembers from home. It would be nice to share those meals with him someday, no matter who cooked it.
The Egyptian opts for a salmon and tofu bowl with all the available veggies and wasabi mayo.
He, of course, practically inhales it once their orders are served, tossing the occasional chopstick full to Chen and Oba. He might also forget to swallow before talking like he normally does when Hunk's given him good food.]
Ffiff ish rilly goohd!
[How someone can be so cultured and mature yet childish and naivé at the same time is one of the world's many mysteries of Marik Ishtar.]

[He's already a big fan- Sevii reminds him of home in some pretty great ways and pretty terrible ones. Nothing bad, but he just finds himself missing his uncle's lau lau and he sees places his niece and nephew would love.]
[He'll definitely have to try some of those Egyptian dishes not just because they promise to be delicious, but he needs to split up that happy-sad-fond-grief feeling he never knows what exactly to do with.]
Mmmhmm! Mmmhmm.... [Hunk agrees, nodding. And there are some little side bowls he orders, putting them down within pokemon reach. Except for Dragon Roll's. He has to walk away from the cart and motion for him to bring his head down enough that he can dump the bowl into his lower lip. Like a skittle worth of a meal to a Gyarados, but he seems happy.]
My mom and uncle made stuff like this all the time!

[Marik deals with the same thing but less on a reminded of home aspect and more of a "my big brother isn't around to do things for me anymore, now I have to do it myself."
Which really sucked at first and still kind of does. He tries very hard not to lean on his friends to fill that role because it wouldn't be fair to them.
The tomb keeper's half way done with his bowl when Hunk feeds Dragon Roll. Oba stares up at him and opens his mouth. In goes another chunk of salmon.]
Is that where you got your love of cooking from?

When I was a kid I was super impatient, it's amazing how little things like that help.
[And why it feels so good to help out others where he can. He knows Keith's had to learn a lot of patience too since they've met, in their different ways. It's been amazing to see that develop over time. He's really proud of his friend.]
Speaking of which, if you've practiced any of your recipes from home? I'm totally up for being a labrat for official test runs. [He scoops some of his bowl into his mouth with chopsticks, just way more than it seems like chopsticks should be able to hold. He breaks physics somehow with these things.]

[What Hunk says makes sense. Waiting for food to cook does give you time to focus on other things.]
I wasn't so much impatient as... rebellious? I don't know how to describe it. I was told one thing, I'd want to do the opposite. So... huh... maybe I was still impatient and didn't realize it.
[Marik finishes his own bowl, giving the last few pieces to Chen and Oba before tossing his stuff out.]
Oh. Yeah! I've cooked some snacks for Shy but nothing serious yet... Maybe we can do that after the Contest?
