Day at the races

On September 15, all who have given heed to Farrah's plea for help gather at Circuit de Kantochamps over in, well, Kanto. UBIRDS were arranged by Farrah for the event (she really, really wants someone to beat these little jerks) so anyone, anywhere is welcome to join!

Once you arrive at the Circuit, Farrah can be seen pacing and muttering to herself, her Cyclizar Charles trying his level best to calm her down. It doesn't look like she is interested in a chat right now. Neither would you be, probably, if your Circuit was absolutely flooded with strange Tentacool knock-offs (If you scan them with your gear, the Pokedex will tell you these pokemon are called Toedscool) who are all jumping around, stretching, wrestling a bit amongst each other and being a rather general nuisance. Though if anyone tries to tell them off, they very quickly flee to hide behind--

Oh good god.

That's an absolutely massive Tentacruel-- no, Toedscruel. She towers over the many little Toedscool, patting them with her massive tentacles, and having the audacity to glare at you if you even dare to look slightly funny at her very precious brood.

Unfortunately, because of how quickly Farrah had to put this all together, there aren't a lot of side activities available at the circuit right now. There is The Race obviously, but apart from that, you are free to check out The Stables where Farrah's Cyclizar are being kept. If you are interested in borrowing one for the race, you might want to head over there a little early and get to meet your new ride.

The other thing that is available is A Small Museum. And we do mean small! It's barely two rooms, but it is filled with memorabilia of Cyclizar racers and racing from outside of this region. It honestly looks less like a formal museum, and more like someone's personal collection that has grown massively out of control. But hey, if you have an interest in learning a bit more about Cyclizar racing (or if you just want a quiet place to flee the crowd) feel free to check it out.

[She is trying very hard to picture that and is just... failing. Brooms must be very different where he's from or something. But the term wizard didn't escape her notice. Was he something like a Jedi?]

Oh, yes. There are speeder races, podraces, swoop races. If it can move there's probably a race for it.

Well back in my world, there have been plenty of spells and innovations that made riding on brooms a less painful experience compared to the Dark Ages. Many companies are formed through the years, especially in the United Kingdom (that’s where I’m from), building various broom models for various purposes. I do believe that the modern broom came about during the 1920’s if my memory is correct. Unless you’re in some places in Asia and the Middle East where carpets are used instead.

Wow! That’s really brilliant! I don’t think that we have broom flying races in where I’m from, so I’m guessing that participating or watching speeder race or podraces must be exciting and fun at the same time.

[Have a blank stare, sir. Because most of what he said just completely went over her head. Wait.. people ride carpets too? What in the... What kind of world is this?]

They're entertaining enough to watch. I've never actually tried to race... well anything. This will be my first time.

(Okay, that is very fair enough. The wizarding world has been very good in hiding their presence so he can’t blame Bo for having this reaction at all.)

This is also my first time participating in a race too. Bonn was the one who actually encourage me to join in it with him since he thought that it would be a great bonding experience. I’ll be honest, I’m pretty nervous myself.

[A small smile tugs at the corner of her lips.]

As long as you both do your best, you have nothing to worry about.

[She again pats the rentable Cyclizar on the head.]

At least you'll be riding a Pokemon that you know. The only one I have that's big enough refuses to let me ride him. So I have to rent one.

Aww thanks. I really appreciate it. Oh gee, I’m truly sorry to hear about that your Pokémon doesn’t want to get involved in the race. But at least you can get to race with the the rented Cyclizar though.

[A short laugh and a single shake of her head.]

It's not that. He doesn't like me. I'm working on it.

[She had hoped that maybe some competitive spirit would drive him to want to race and they could maybe do some bonding. No such luck.]

But you're right. It's given me a chance to get to know this little guy.

[The Cyclizar makes some happy sounds because he'll be happy to race with her!]

Oh hey, I think this one really likes you already. Very excited to be your racing partner as well.

(Bonn happily hisses in agreement as well. Harry can tell how happy the other Cyclizar since that was the same reaction that he got when he got Bonn for the first time.)

I have a feeling that you two could become the best of friends.

[Bo can’t hold back her smile as she too feels like she and the Cyclizar will get along nicely. Well enough to be a good racing partner at least.]

I think you’re right, though it’s not mine so I can’t get too attached.

[But maybe she could be convinced to get one of her own.]

Nice to meet you as well, Bo-Katan. My name is Harry, I have been in this world since technically July or August of last year. Time got a little tricky when I first arrived: got stranded in the past over a month.

[Bo-Katan actually has to stop and think about that for a few moments because it didn’t take her long after arriving to figure out that this world’s calendar was very different from the galactic standard. July and August were not months in her galaxy.]

I think everyone I’ve met so far has been here at least a year, if not more.

[Apparently they’re not getting many newcomers these days, or so she’s been told.]

What do you mean in the past?

From what I was told, somebody made a faulty time machine dragged a lot of old timers and then newcomers into a place from the past called in Hisui. So no PokéGears, no bikes, and the bonds between Pokémon and humans haven’t been fully realized at the time.

I was among a group of newcomers who had arrived in the past rather in New Bark Town like with most folks.

That sounds… strange.

[This world proves more bc and more how bizarre it is with each passing day.]

What happened?

[Obviously they’re not in the past anymore.]

It is a very long story but one day a lot of folks, including some of my friends, were all dragged into Hisui’s past without any warning. A woman named Cara Liss had this machine that inadvertently brought everyone into the past, and for over a month, we had to learn to survive in the wild and some had to go look for the parts needed for her machine repair so she can bring everyone. I didn’t join the item retrieval search but I did helped out at the base camp.

Once the machine got repaired, Cara tried to bring everyone at the Temple of Arceus so we can go home. But then the machine broke, causing reality to get messed up, that Arceus had to intervene and bring everyone home themself. I think that they are still mad at her for trying to mess with time and space.

I would be too.

[Sounds like this Cara person was messing with forces she didn’t really understand and had been reckless with a very unreliable machine. To the point that this world’s deity had to get involved. Gambling with the lives of others like that is unacceptable in her view.]

She’s fortunate that Arceus was able to fix her mistakes.

Yeah, I agree with that sentiment too. I’m really glad that Arceus was able to clean up the mess she had gotten everybody present into.

(Harry is hoping that he doesn’t get into another of Cara’s time travel related invention disasters again. He had gone back in time to save Sirius with Hermione and he thought that trip was the only one he will ever take.)

Well Bonn, at least you are very luck that you don’t get sent back into the past at the time.

[This talk of time travel was honestly a bit much for her to wrap her brain around. Hopefully it won’t happen again and she won’t have to deal with it. She prefers to stay in the here and now.

Speaking of which, Bo looks at Harry’s Cyclizar and offers a smile.]

Lucky indeed. You might need it in the race.

[She offers her hand to him.]

Yeah, I could sure use that luck on the races too. Anyway, may the best Pokémon win. Good luck in today’s races as well.

(He reciprocates the hand shake offer very well. It is all good sportsman as the former Quidditch player comes to know so well. Bonn happily hisses in eager confidence with his head bopping about, ready to take on the race course.)

[Harry might note that she’s got quite a strong grip as she shakes his hand. Nothing that would break his fingers but definitely firm. Another smile and a nod given before she releases her grip and turns to the Cyclizar she had been bonding with. A jerk of her head signaling the Pokémon to follow.]

Come on.

[With that she will lead the Pokémon out towards the track so they can get ready.]

(The hand grip did felt very strong for him, but luckily for him nothing that could break any fingers. Needless to say, Harry gives her one more smile before he turns his attention to Bonn who is looking to him for any prompts.)

Alright, Bonn. Let’s get to the starting line and join the rest of the race participants.

(The Cyclizar in question then follows after him as they head for the race track so they can join the rest of the participants.)
