Depends on the motive and circumstances.

Though I don’t know why anyone would ever have need to. Pokémon seem plentiful here and they’re well taken care of from what I’ve seen.

If it were a case of abuse, or if it was a Pokemon that someone else stole that you are rescuing on behalf of the owners... then yes.

Is it really stealing if you are just taking back a pokemon that was stolen in the first place?

[That doesn't even have super much to do with this, just a general musing.]

Hypothetically speaking, what if you knew a pokemon was being neglected because its owners cared more about hurting each other than anything else?

They are a criminal gang. Biggest one around. They-- well, they get involved in a lot of different crimes, but their main thing, or at least the main thing your average person is going to have to deal with, is that they steal Pokemon from folks. Usually, pokemon that are valuable or unique in some way, so either ones that are strong, hard to come by, or shiny.

Don't count on the police here to deal with them either. They are useless.

To what end? To sell them?

[It seems to her that anyone could just go out and catch some pokemon. But if they're only interested in rare and strong Pokemon. Well. She supposed there's bound to be people that want an easier way to get them. And that would be stealing or buying off a Pokemon black market.

Though this seems like a peaceful world, she's not at all surprised something like this would be going on. No world is perfect.]

Well, really, I can't imagine there isn't a case for that. Just be careful, kid. I know firsthand you're a good sneak, but if you're planning anything, posting it here is a bit of a gamble.

Although I'd hope nobody would rat you out.

Can't say I'm a big fan of either of those names, though. But between the two? Chief.

Some people get really obsessed with these shinies. I don't really get it; it's the same pokemon, just a different colour. But you know how some people get when they can show they are more special than others.

[It takes a moment, but then Doppio will receive a picture of a Mabosstiff. The Mabosstiff in question still looks a bit wet, like he was just given a bath, and age seems to have made his face even droopier than your standard individual. His dark 'moustache' is even starting to show signs of greying.]

So, what do you think? Chief or Sarge? His face kind of reminds me of the kind of guys you see cast as chief of police in cop shows.

[You know, the older human or dwarf character, grumpy but fair, a father to his men. Also the character that gets shot in the third season cliffhanger when they need to boost the ratings a bit. Riz has seen enough cop shows to know the tropes!]

Pokémon seem impressed with them too. At least Ori was when he saw Noodle. She seems to think highly of herself too.

[Bo-Katan doesn’t much care either, but she has a feeling she will lose ground with Ori if she doesn’t let him visit Noodle occasionally. Moving on!]

So is this what this “hypothetical” situation is about?

The hypothetical is just me being curious. Sometimes people get so stuck on something being "illegal" [fingerquotations and all] that they won't even think about what is the right thing to do.

[Like murder. Don't catch Riz with that 'murder is always wrong, killing a killer leaves the same number of killers in the world' bullshit. Killing can be the best course of action. Some people are too dangerous to allow to live.]

For the record, I didn't steal Sarge-- Or Chief. I'm still trying to decide on the name. I made someone a very mutually beneficial offer.

All these two were interested in was hurting each other, so I offered them both some info to do exactly that with if they let me have the dog. It was a completely above-board transaction.

I just gave them ammo they could use in their stupid divorce battle. You know, hidden credit card debt and affairs, that sort of stuff.

Chief and Sarge would both be wild names for a stolen pokemon though. yknow. ...since they're police ranks.

I'm not really sure. Maybe if the Pokemon was being hurt? But I can't think of too many reasons to steal a Pokemon.
