Well well well, this is certainly a case of deja vu! I'm not sure how long I've been gone, and getting reacclimated to this environment certainly took a few moments more than if I'd been expecting it. But the point is, hello again Pokemon world! 'Tis I, Huey Duck! As new people may have surmised I've been here before, so I'm rather used to Pokemon, training, and the like.

[The astute may notice in his background is a Quaxly, meticulously grooming their feathers. Stop, look in the reflection from a puddle, back to work.]

But because there are surely people who weren't here the last time I was, I wanted to put an introduction out there. As per my ID I'm a breeder, so hopefully you can look to me in the future for aid with your Pokemon's care and general knowledge!

[He snorts and mutters to himself, however audibly still, "Research is definitely going to be a focus here!" Then he pauses and clears his throat.]

And Louie? If you're still out there, call me as soon as you see this. [Beat.] Huey out.

Ah, hi. What does a breeder do?

[ A short pause, and then, an addendum. ]

Apart from the obvious, I mean. Do you have any idea why some people are labeled as trainers and others as breeders? I just got here, and there's still a lot I don't understand.

As far as I can tell, admittedly based on my limited experience, the assignment of the roles seems random at best. But there are a few differences between trainers and breeders, more than may seem at first! While both classes can go through the badge program and fight gyms, only trainers need proof of badges to use HMs, powerful moves that Pokemon can learn that can also help them traverse the landscape easier; breeders can use HMs without needing badges.

Additionally, while there's the obvious to consider like you said, breeders have a higher chance of producing more remarkable Pokemon from those eggs than trainers do. The Pokemon caught by each class also grow and learn at different rates, depending on a few different factors.

That all seems... incredibly arbitrary. [ Frustratingly so. But there are many things about this world that Adaine is finding to be frustrating. ]

You mentioned that you were gone. Did you return home to your world?

Well, maybe so I guess, but it's differences that would matter down in the nitty-gritty.

[Okay, pulling back Huey, no need to go off on a dissertation to everyone you meet...]

I did! Though I have to admit I have no idea how that happened. Or how I wound up back here.

I suppose so.

[ But she lets the matter drop. It's not as though she has any plans to start breeding Pokemon, regardless of what role she's been arbitrarily assigned. ]

Fascinating. And, another point... I've heard that people who return home have no memory of being in this world while they are there. Was that the case for you as well?

[ She may or may not be compiling research notes. ]

[He nods, eager to share information, especially to someone who's willing to hear it. Wasn't often the case with him.]

Sure was. Not a speck of this place remained in my memory; or, if it did, it was locked somewhere deep and out of my own reach. Now, I've experienced things locked away in my brain before! So while it's a hypothesis that has merit on its own, the sample size is way too small to test it further at this current point in time. What's more likely is the power that changes our shapes might also be affecting our memories, because I certainly regained them all upon my return-

[He pauses, breathes in, almost visibly swallows any further words. Okay Hue, there's "willing to listen" and "going off on a huge tangent they'll just tune out of, like usual."]

Anyway, to answer your question, yes! I didn't remember anything while I was home.

[ Don't worry, that kind of expository info dump is right up Adaine's alley. The only reason she's not taking notes as he speaks is because she's holding her Gear instead of a notebook. ]

You've had your memories modified before? Did that happen here, or back in your world?

[Huey had to consider that a moment. That was certainly an interesting question! And it was hard to really pin down where, but.]

If I had to venture a guess, somewhere in between actually. Once I was back in my world I no longer carried any knowledge of this place, but on arriving back here, all those memories returned to me. Plus any from home.

So I suppose the hypothesis would be that somewhere between the worlds is somewhere the memories get modified, perhaps even something like... [He takes his hat off by the bill to run his hand through his hair, then pauses as an analogy comes to him.] Like a hat hook! Left there when going in one direction, to be picked up if ever gone that way again.

[Careful and attentive readjustment of hat.]

[ The hat hook analogy works for Adaine to grasp the concept well enough. ]

So there is something within the barrier between this realm and the realms we come from, which keep all memories and knowledge of this realm contained here. That's... I'm not really sure how one would go about dispelling that effect, but it certainly bears further research.

[ Because there's no way she's just going to accept being here without trying to research and find a way home. ]

You're going to try to research that effect?

[He looks up, something akin to a curious and eager hope in his eyes.]

I've had some experience with magical effects and energies! Nothing memory altering, at least that I can think of. [He ponders a moment, then shrugs it off.] But I'd love to hear any sort of findings you come across! And could be a soundboard if nothing else?

Well, I'm definitely going to try. I'm not exactly the type to get extraplanarily kidnapped and just sit down and treat it like a vacation. I have friends to get back to. I have to finish high school!

[ Funny, that friends and academics are worth mentioning, but not "family." ]

I'm happy to share with you what I'm able to find out, if anything. If nothing else, I would love to hear more about your experiences traveling back and forth.

Well, I can certainly share that time where we came from seems to freeze. I returned to the exact point I was taken from, and I assume the same thing would happen if I went back again.

So if nothing else, that should give all the time needed to research! And of course I'll help you however I can. High school is important, I'd want you to get back to your friends- [And it's about here he realizes what she said. Or rather, didn't say.] ...and fa..mily?
