it’s time for a cookout!

Summary: Arven welcomes you to experience Paldean customs and food, and share the food of your own homes, in a unique take on Calçotada!


Arven and his helpers have set up Poco Path as the perfect spot for a cook-out! Tables and benches line the route, and there are also baskets holding picnic blankets around for those who prefer that experience. The weather is finally playing nice again, after all, so why not?

There are grills for anyone who may need them, as well, and Arven - along with his Toedscruel and Gargancl - will be making the rounds to assure everyone has any needed equipment... And that no one's putting the cook-out at risk of going up in flames, of course. But whether or not you're making or even brought food, the host is happy to see you here. And so is his Mabosstiff! The gentle old pokemon will be making his own rounds of begging for table scraps!

When it seems like the arrivals have slowed to a stop, Arven takes a moment to address his guests. While he starts off nervously, he keeps a hand on Mabosstiff at his side, and as he goes on his bashfulness fades more and more.

"I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came here today! When I heard about how you lot aren't, er, from around here... Well, I knew had to do something like this. It's important! You're all far from your homes in more ways than one, after all. Food can go a long way to bring people together!"

Mabosstiff gives a gruff bark in agreement, and Arven laughs heartily.

"Thanks, bud. And thanks again to all of you! I'm seeing some dishes I just can't wait to dig into. If you aren't eating already, what are you waiting for? Bon profit!"

[Evie gives a very happy warble.]

[ Luisa smiles, a bit bashful. ] Thanks. I hope it all tastes as good as it looks.

What would you like to try?

[crystalmaster]

I'm sure it does.

Hmm. I can't choose, so I think I'll try both an empanada and an arepa, with plenty of cheese for the latter.

[neverbreaks]

[ With a grin, Luisa nods. ] You got it.

[ She prepares the two for him, making sure they were warm enough before placing them on a plate. ]

Here you go.

[Radley smiles and takes them.]

[He starts to eat, sharing some with Evie, to her delight.]

I knew it; it's delicious! You've got a real talent.

[ She smiles sheepishly, shrugging a shoulder as she rubs the back of her neck. ]

Aww thanks. I'm still learning, though, so I'm not really that good. I wish you could taste my mamá's food. Her cooking is amazing.

Maybe I can sometime.

[He smiles. Maybe she will end up here, the way things go. Or maybe he can visit when they're all home, if they live in the same dimension. He's still not sure.]

So, how have things been?

Maybe. [ A part of her isn't sure she'd want her mother stuck in this place, but...she won't deny that she'd really like to see her again. ]

Not bad. It's actually been pretty fun getting to explore a new region. How about you?

[crystalmaster]

[Radley would understand that dilemma. Although as far as places to get stuck in, this is better than most, he thinks. Even with the weird stuff.]

I've been enjoying it a lot too. It reminds me of Spain, where my family's from, so it kinda feels like coming home. And we discovered an Eevee colony that's been following us around.

[He chuckles, glancing back to where the colony is walking all around the picnic area curiously.]

Apparently they're called outbreaks here, and it's rare to find Eevee ones. They're really friendly, even more than back home.

[One of them goes on two legs to ask cutely for food from someone.]

Oh yeah? I thought there were some similarities. My family's from Colombia, which has a lot of Spanish influences, so there have been things here that felt familiar.

Wow, a whole colony? That's pretty amazing.

[crystalmaster]

Cool. I really wonder why places here are so similar to places from Earth. Even the Paldea map looks like Spain.

It sure is. I wonder how they'll handle it when we have to go back. There's maybe two that wanna come, but maybe they won't when they realize how far away it really is.

Maybe that's just how they call it here. Kind of like how the animals here are Pokemon. Similar, but with a lot of differences too.

[crystalmaster]

Yeah. It really does seem like this place might be another dimension's version of Earth. Trippy, but cool too. It's kinda like we're still home in a way.

[neverbreaks]

Right? It's kind of nice finding things that are familiar, even in such a strange place.

[crystalmaster]

It sure is. Goldenrod back in Johto feels a lot like that to me too. There's so many familiar places ... more or less. Some of the businesses' names are a real kick.

[He would never not be amused by things like Verizion. Although he imagined Luisa wouldn't have heard of the original places with her village as cut off from everything as she had described.]
