Hey, I was right! Cool, I shoulda checked this thing out sooner. I didn't know I was gonna be able to talk to anyone on it. This is way better than it just being a phone!

'Sup? I'm Amethyst. I've been here for a few days with my buddy Compactor. [She swings the gear around to show off a Gible in the grass.] And guess what? Little man here just won his first fight!

[Amethyst plops down across from Compactor and turns the camera back around. Hopefully, no one watching is getting motion sick...]

Well, his first fight against another person's pokemon, anyway. That rat didn't stand a chance. Compactor didn't even have to bite 'em, and that's his best trick! Hang on, hang on...

[And around the camera goes again, back to Compactor. When a twig, held by Amethyst, sticks out near him, he chomps down on it, joyfully breaking it down into wood chips.]

Look at that! And I thought I was good at eating weird stuff!

Nah, no others. I don't know, catching more is a whole thing people do here, right? But Compactor's doing great on his own! He's one tough dude.

It is. I have several myself. It's not because my starter didn't do a good job, it's because putting the full burden on him alone wouldn't be fair. However, maybe compactor is different in that way. He looks very strong.

I mean, it's not like I'm gonna push him to fight all the time. If he ever doesn't wanna fight, he doesn't gotta.

[Though, she does worry about him getting lonely for other pokemon.]

'Sides, how would I even pick which to have come along? It's not like I know about these guys. I think we're just gonna keep it simple.

It's not bad to give them a small nudge, pokemon enjoy challenges. I promise you that much, I thought the same thing.

For me I came across my pokemon in various ways, gifts from friends, in the wild, or my pokemon found them himself in need of a home. There are also eggs you can choose from that people sometimes advertise. I suggest those for giving homes to tiny pokemon that need them.

[Oh, this feels familiar. Though he definitely made a point to be less erratic with the camera when he was still figuring the PokéGear out.]

Wild, right? Barely anyone even had cell phones where I come from.

I've seen gadgets that do a lot before, but I'm pretty sure it's always Gem stuff. Though I don't pay a lot of attention to things like this either. I guess TV's pretty cool, and I like--

[Oh ho ho. She flips the pokegear back around with a smile.]

Can you play games on this?

[He'd kind of figured they maybe had a similar understanding of technology, but the mention of Gem stuff (whatever Gem stuff is...) and seeing how quickly she jumps to asking about games already has him rethinking that.]

Yeah, actually. There are only a few on there to start with, but you can get more if you want to. They're pretty fun.

[Amethyst isn't the only one who gets a bit too close to the gear screen at first. Rose has never lost the habit. And she's so taken by surprise that she doesn't think to pull it back, as though peering up close through the screen will somehow give her a better view.

She has many questions and many thoughts right now, but all she can manage to say is a single word.]

[Amethyst fumbles the pokegear as she turns it around, staring as if she's seen a ghost. And the way she sees it, that's exactly what she's looking at... Probably. It might not even be her! But even being human, she looks so much the way Amethyst remembers her.]

Rose?

[If it is Rose, well-- Amethyst doesn't know that she's ready to emotionally navigate that. Could she ever be ready for that?]

Compactor looks great! I've got a couple little buddies- [Gobo looks down, putting a hand between the Goomy's antenna with a satisfying little splrcchk sound] -that are the same way, and bite pretty much anything their mouths get near.
