The Summer Carnival is in town!
Who: Everyone!
Where/When: Goldenrod (August 18-24), Saffron (August 25-31)
Summary: Closing out the Summer months with a traveling carnival
The sun is setting a little earlier. Sometimes, there's almost even a chill on the evening breeze. August is slipping by and bringing the end of Summer with it, and flyers have been popping up on lampposts and community boards in Goldenrod and Saffron for the last couple a weeks:

The bright, cheery advertisements promise fun for the whole family. When the date rolls around, residents and guests of Goldenrod and Saffron will find large lots on each city's edge erupting with color and sound. In Goldenrod, the seaside boardwalk has been cleared of vendors and news stands to make way for the event. Guests can enjoy the cooling sea breeze and sprawling ocean view as they're cresting the Ferris Wheel. In Saffron, the fair grounds are outside the city center, the attractions rising out of forest clearings and ample seating area set under the trees. The grounds are open every day from noon to midnight. Admission is public, and kiosks for the big-ticket rides can be found throughout the festival grounds.
The silhouette the pop-up park casts against the sky reveals its main attractions: A Ferris wheel dominates the skyline. After the sun has set, lights flash in technicolor along its spokes as it turns. A mini-coaster zooms in a compact tangle nearby, its weathered car train painted to resemble a Furret. Beside it is the Crazy Maushold coaster, faster and spinnier for carnival-goers looking for more of a thrill. The spinning sky swing and the pirate ship are ready and waiting for any trainers who like to Be Up High and Go Fast.
The carousel is outfitted with seats fashioned after Ponyta, Blitzel, and Mudbray lines. It's tucked away in a smaller area clearly intended for kids, but when it's past even a Summer vacation bedtime, no one will bat an eye if guests a little more grown snag the envied Keldeo mount. The bumper cars are fashioned after various electric rodents of uncanny similarity. The fun house is a right maze of glass and mirrors and alarmingly life-like paintings of Mr Mime that haven't been touched up since the new flip feature on the PokéGear was a big deal. There's a Really Big Slide, which requires no further introduction. And, of course, no moderately-cheap amusement park experience would be complete without one of those hydraulic monsters that could only be described as a recreational centrifuge. The Hitmontop Tumbler, it's called, according to the archway above the queue. Maybe do this one before you chow down on greasy carnival food.
If it's big, plushy, Pokémon-themed prizes you're after, there are plenty of games to test your skill (or, if we're honest, usually your luck). Basketball free-throw challenges with hoops that are definitely smaller than regulation, a test of strength, a dunk tank, and more variations of "throw this object at a tiny target" than any reasonable person thought existed.
There are more than enough dining options to choose from. Food trucks are cloistered in their own special clearing, offering a variety of easy grab-and-go meals. Tiny stands are also scattered along the carnival's thoroughfare, where it's easy to find cotton candy, caramel apples, fried dough, and takoyaki.
Thematically fitting, but presenting some serious questions about their survival instincts, Swirlix and Dipplin can be found in increased numbers in and around the fair grounds. Sometimes, guests may even encounter a critter blending into a food stand display a little too well. When in doubt, give that cotton candy a good poke before digging in...
