Ninth Spell (A Day After Christmas, network/text)

(You will see plenty of pictures of Delibirds popping up in the network some time after Christmas. Harry has been taking pictures of Delibirds in action for some time when there are so many of them, happily going about, carrying sacks of what could be assumed gifts, enjoying the snow, etc. Yep, this man clearly had spent a good amount of the month taking loads of pictures at Mahogany Town for some time now.

He has gotten so good with the camera in fact that he might have given Colin Creevy a run for his own money. In fact, Harry has been so deep knee deep in photography so much that he could probably start running a photography shop or a picture gallery at Olivine City, or in his current situation, Mahogany Town if he wanted to.)

Well, the lead up to Christmas has certainly became very interesting for me. I have been seeing so many of these Delibirds in Mahogany Town that I just started to take so many photos of them whenever possible. Gotten some of the most interesting photos as the result, with many of them happily going about with their lives.

Had to keep some of My Fire Pokémon and some of my bigger Pokémon from trying to get too close to them and accidentally hurting them as the result. Either way, I just hope that everyone had a good holiday season right now.

Oh wow, those pictures are lovely! Are you taking up photography?

Oh yes, yes I have been taking up photography for months now. It has been quite a fun hobby for me to get into.

That's great! Photography is a great hobby to have. Have you taken any other pictures?

Yes indeed. I just so happen to have taken some photos of Mahogany Town’s scenery mixed with the Delibirds as well. Been taking them since I managed to get dropped into the town during the most recent weird week.

Nothing wrong with taking your time. But the pictures with the Delibirds sounds so cute! Could I maybe see them sometime?

Oh yes. It is entirely possible that you can find them even outside of the Christmas season. I might have encountered a few of them some weeks prior to the most recent influx.

Oh, actually I meant the pictures you took of the Delibirds. I'd love to take a look at them, if you're okay showing them.

Oh right, got a little mixed up for a moment. But yes, I can show you more pictures of the Delibirds. There is plenty of them that you can look at.

That's okay! Mistakes happen. But yes, I'd love to see them!

Okay, I will upload more Delibird photos right now. This might take a while but hopefully the wait is worth it.

(Not long after he said it, Harry begins to upload more photos of the Delibirds he had taken during the recent swarm. Some of the Delibirds in there are seen happily distributing gifts, greeting random Pokémon and people, walking through snow and singing at the same time, and, wait a second - did they just tried to give him a box in one of the photos?

What does the box contain inside? one may ask. Harry wishes that he was making that last one up but, as it turns out, this is actually a true story here.)

Awww, those are so cute! Are they giving you a present? What was in it?

Yeah, they did. In fact, one of them had given me a box of Lures of the fast kind, or that’s what I think what they are called. I might need to try them out someday once the weather warms up since it is too cold to find any Pokémon right now.

Aww that was really sweet of them! I don't think I've heard of those kinds of lures before. What are they supposed to do?

Apparently from what I have looked into them, they can help in catching the attention of the Pokémon you wish to find. Initially I almost thought that they might be like typical fishing lures, but no, they are very much different from those things.

Oh, I thought they were fishing lures too. So you can use them to catch any Pokemon?

No, I don’t think that is possible and yet I haven’t tried using any of them before. I might even consider giving them away as I don’t know if I can find a good use with them myself. I already have cases where the Pokémon just simply follow after me out of curiosity without me using anything to get their attention.

Oh, I see. I guess there isn't much point to lures if Pokemon already follow you.

Exactly, especially when the Pokémon think that I could be their friend or are very curious or something. I might as well give them away to whoever is more interested in getting them than I do. They probably get more use out of them than me.

Well maybe. You could also get to know them too. Even if you don’t end up catching them, you could still be their friend.

I do hope that it is the case, Fluttershy. It has been a while since I got a Pokémon for some time. Maybe the egg that was dropped off at my current place might be one of those first new Pokémon in a long while.

Oh really? Do you know what kind of egg it is?

I have no idea just yet but maybe it could be a shiny baby Pokémon or a Pokémon with a rare ability just waiting to be hatched at some point. I did got Dobby who had a Hidden Ability in the Sentret line when he hatched last year after I wound up with his Egg the previous year.

Aww that's so cute. Well whatever kind of Pokemon it is, I'm sure you two will be good friends.

Thanks, that is greatly appreciative. I’m going to try my best to look after the egg and raise the Pokémon inside it well. I do hope that the Pokémon will grow up happy and string under my care.

As long as you do your best to care for it, I'm sure it will.

Aw gee that’s really kind of you to say that. I will be looking forward to meet the Pokémon when the hatch.

My hope is that they can get along with the rest of my Pokémon as well and let them be friends together. That would be such a great thing to see.

Have they given you anything weird yet? I've gotten three metal spoons and a train ticket, so far...

And I think they gave one of my Pokemon an Egg while I wasn't paying attention??

Whoa, they gave you spoons for Christmas gifts? I think that they gave me a box full of Fast Lures so it might be just as odd as the spoons too.

I do know that getting Eggs on Christmas Day is very common, and I think that they dropped one off to me as well. Last year I got an egg that has a Special Ability and, before that, an egg that had a Pokémon from Paldea. Not sure what this new egg might hatched into at the moment though.

Yeah, just plain normal spoons. Orrery got excited, spent a bit of time bending them in half and unbending them, and then got bored and left them behind.

Maybe they were actually a gift for her?

It sounds like you've hatched a lot of Eggs. Do you know how warm they have to be kept?

I've been worried about carrying this one outside with us, if I don't keep it next to my fire Pokemon. But I don't want to cook it either...

At least she was able to find some use in the spoons, even for a short time. Maybe the spoons were her gifts from them. I still haven’t found a good use for the Fast Lures right now. Although I should try using them in fishing someday when the weather gets warmer.

Yeah, I was able to hatch some eggs in the past and I managed to warm them up with heated blankets and occasionally a hot water bath. Those are two methods I have tried in the past.

Should you want to try warming the egg with your Fire Pokémon, you may ask them if they can use some of their power to warm it gently. I’m sure that they will be very understanding and they will try to not accidentally cook the egg on their watch. My Fire Pokémon have been very careful and gentle with them as much as they could whenever I ask them for some help.

Burnoit would definitely want to be careful, but I think he'd have a hard time staying awake for long enough...

But heated blankets are a good idea. Maybe I'll try wrapping the egg in my sleeping bag and plopping Burnoit on top.

Is there something different about Fast Lures? Compared to normal lures?

Yeah that is definitely true. Heated blankets tend to work well in keeping the eggs warm and safe from the cold all the way. Hopefully your egg will be very happy and warm in this winter time.

From what I have read about them, they seem to have be very effective with a high amount of steps, they have a higher increase of chances of getting a Pokémon, and they tend to be pricier than normal lures. Other than that, they still work the same as a normal lures in catching the attention of any wild Pokémon.

Any wild Pokemon...?

So you could be fishing and something else would just jump you?

Yeah, it could be a possibility. It is entirely possible that I might get a fish Pokémon who might sense my presence and they decide to jump out of the water and say hi before begging me to take them home or something like it.

Or I might be taking a walk only for a land based Pokémon to take notice of me because of the lures themselves. Regardless if the meeting is in the air, at sea, or on the ground, any wild Pokémon could sense the lures’ presence and decide to come after me instead of the usual Trainer goes for a Pokémon situation.

That feels more like a curse than a gift... are you sure the birds liked being photographed?

Yeah, it does sound a lot like a curse than a blessing indeed.

Ehhh, so far the Delibirds don’t seem to mind me taking their photos. They seem to be more cordial and calm than most wild Pokémon I have seen and encountered. And they didn’t try to chase after me everywhere when I used my camera to take the pictures, although I did took some pre-caution by keeping some distance between me and them.

Huh.

Maybe the lures were them telling you to let them closer then.

Hm. That is true.

Maybe the lures have something built into them that alerts the Pokémon to a Trainer’s presence and allows them to get a little closer, making it easier to get their attention.
