No. No that's not for pecking. Murren please.

[He manages to keep the Murkrow far enough away from the screen to actually talk.]

Excuse me. I was wondering what the best way to bond with these Pokemon is? I've never had a pet back home, and I'm not quite sure how to treat them properly.

[Cali has the PokeGear propped up on the kitchenette counter in the hotel as she watches the video while giving her newest Pokemon, Kugel the Fidough a bath. She watches for a moment debating before turning on the video chat feature of the PokeGear while giving the puppy Pokemon a bath]

Hi there, I'm more than happy to help you out with your Pokemon, Murren! What sort of bonding activity were you thinking of? I tend to go with story time for mine.

Ah, Murren is this little fellow here. I've heard naming them is a good first step. My name is Giovanni.

[The Murkrow caws at the sound of his name.]

I'm not sure what would be a good bonding activity, to be honest. Somehow I doubt designing clothes or folding origami would make for a good bonding activity since...well...wings.

Story time? I suppose I could try that...

[It takes Cali a moment or two to realize she mixed up her words there as Kugel starts trying to jump out of the mini tub of strawberry scented bubbles, off screen is Truffles giving the biggest look of betrayal of not getting a bath. After all, Truffles is the princess of the team, she simply has to be pampered in baths.]

It's wonderful to meet you Giovanni, I'm Calliope, but everyone calls me Cali for short. Story time is a wonderful way to bond with your Pokemon, it allows them time to get use to your voice and associate it with good things. Designing clothes is also a good one for some Pokemon like my Buneary, Chantilly. She loves it when I make her outfits.

[He thinks over her explanation for a moment.]

That makes sense. I may try that. Thank you.

I wonder if my Pokemon would allow me to style them...It would be good to keep my skills sharp.

[Not that's he's been able to do a lot of styling lately.]

It's no trouble at all, I'm just glad to help out Giovanni.

[Kugel attempts to flee the bath tub with no success. Sweet Sixteen can be heard making this salty sailor like laugh at Kugel's expression of not being free to roll in dirt like she wants.]

I think they will, I found that thrifting for old clothes or blankets is a great way to save cost here for sewing projects.

I see. Giving new life to old things is a wonderful way to approach sewing projects. Not just for saving money.

[He pauses.]

Though, I suppose, being new here, I would need to keep that element in mind as well.

It really is, there's a lot of good fabric on them and many have some gorgeous patterns on there too. I think my favorites are the old quilts, I love getting to preserve the art on them for projects.

[HAHA! KUGEL IS FREED FROM THE TUB OF SOAP! She splashes right on out before landing into a towel to be dried off by Cali. FOILED ONCE MORE!]

Here we go, Kugel, let's dry you off...

[Cali's attention returns to Giovanni after the great escape fail of Kugel happened.]

Yeah, it's easy to lose track while living here. I'm currently budgeting on my end for my own clinic in the future, so I have to be a bit careful of how much I spend.

I'm not sure turning quilts into clothing suits my style, personally, however, it is an interesting concept.

[Giovanni watches the failed escape with mild amusement and curiosity.]

Oh? You're a doctor then?

That's fair, I'm usually a fan of quilts, they work out pretty well for making jackets on short notice without having to buy the batting.

[Kugel just stares at Giovanni with puppy eyes as if to go 'But I am the puppy! I just suffered the worst fate ever, a bath, I need affection and dirt right now.' as Cali finished drying up the puppy dough.]

Yep, I'm a doctor, I'm currently working at the Pokemon centers as a medical assistant to get a good idea what the medical field is like here.

[Giovanni smirks slightly at the puppy shenanigans.]

That's quite the ambitious task you've set for yourself. I wish you luck. I can't say I have any such ambitions, myself. But perhaps in time...

[The life of having dogs is absolutely the train of nonstop shenanigans and pet dramatics as Cali lets Kugel free, the dough puppy goes to doing the shaking bit before running about in FREEDOM.]

Thank you, I hope that someday I can have my own clinic. For now though, I'm going to be learning all I can about this world before doing so.

I'm new to it myself, but feeding them has worked pretty well. And battling - they really like battling. It might be the one thing we really have in common.

[His actual partner Pokemon is conspicuously not in the video with him - instead he has a Skitty curled up and purring on his lap. It's clear just from how he's sitting (and not petting her at all) that he doesn't know how to interact with cats, even a little bit.]

Although, my two Pokemon don't quite get along, so I've been having to find ways to keep Mitzi here busy. I'm not sure a crow... thing... would be very interested in chasing strings around, though.

Feeding and battling...

[He figured the first suggestion was a part of the care routine for these creatures, but he didn't know battling could be used to bond with them.

His Murkrow made a lunge for the Pokegear again, and had to be shooed away. He landed back on his shoulder a moment later.]

Murren seems to prefer shiny things over string, I think.

It is a shame about your two Pokemon though. Sometimes I think my two get along a little too well. They may be conspiring against me.

[He was half joking, and his tone was unconcerned.]

I guess it really is like a crow, then.

[He pauses to think for a moment, and then his eyes light up with mischief.]

Say - the money they use here is pretty shiny. Maybe you can train him to bring you coins.

That's a good point. Training it to bring me money that's been dropped on the ground would be a to both bond and help gain a foothold here.

[Also money from Trainers, but he wasn't going to say that part on the network.]

[To be fair, Joseph was absolutely also thinking of taking it from trainers.]

You'll have to tell me if it works - I might have to get a crow myself. And if you'd like to try battling, I'd be grateful for the help keeping Mitzi and Rush busy.

And as for battling... I am sure by the time we meet, I will have already tried it, however, I will gladly take you up on the offer. Elle especially would probably benefit from that kind of enrichment.
